The proposal on "fatwas," Arabic for religious edicts, follows a pledge by Jordanian ruler King Abdullah II in the wake of terror recent attacks to tighten legislation to prevent radical viewpoints from taking root

SOUTH HADLEY - Thirty years ago, he knew the boy he thought would become king.
Today, retired Police Chief William L. Schenker revels in the achievements of the man who is, indeed, now the king of Jordan.
Schenker, just returned from Jordan in July from a trip with faculty from Deerfield Academy and the Eaglebrook School and friends of the king's from across the region, finds himself an ambassador of sorts.
He wants to ensure that Americans understand who the boy he knew simply as "Ab" has become, his vision and the work King Abdullah II has done to establish a $62.5 million boarding school, built in the image of his alma mater in Deerfield.
"I want people to know what a visionary he is. ... If all the world leaders were as open-minded and dedicated to his people as he is, the world would be a better place," Schenker said. "My job is to see that people know about his vision and not to stereotype all Muslims."

I just read in the newspaper that KA,QR and P.Hussien, friday night had Sohour( a late meal (which is taken usually in Ramdan), in a traditional small restaurent in "old amman" called Hashem (which is a very well known place here (it's been in business since 1952!) but a simple and a very very traditional one too). that offers Hommos, foul&falafel etc.etc., I thought that was a nice gesture of them to be btw all those simple people. but Al-rai Newspaper pissed me off, they put details on the news but they made it sound weird, they are Suck-ups,I don't think KA went there so a newspaper like alrai would write all that about it,he wanted to be there to show people that he cares for them and wants to be among them wherever they are,adn wanted to eat what they eat and drink what they drink! I wish Alrai didn't put it the way it did. I loved and respected what KA did.

Thank you King Abdullah :flowers:
:) that was sooo sweet of you:)

Are villages or their inhabitants not worthy of being photographed then?!

Replica American academy gives Jordan's king an authentic school reunion

ANNETTE YOUNG IN AMMAN
SOME people may remember their schooldays with a degree of sentimentality, others have less rosy memories. But few, if any, seek to build a replica of their school.
Yet just beyond the dusty outskirts of Amman, a long-held dream of King Abdullah II of Jordan is slowly coming to realisation as builders put the finishing touches to King's Academy, directly modelled on Deerfield, an elite American prep school in New England.

Los Angeles Times article

http://www.latimes.com/news/printed...ory?coll=la-news-a_section&ctrack=1&cset=true

AMMAN, Jordan — A politically inexperienced king takes control of a Middle Eastern monarchy from his powerful father, surrounds himself with U.S. military hardware and spies, loses touch with his people and is finally ejected in a popular uprising.
That was the tale of Mohammed Reza Shah Pahlavi, the pro-American ruler of Iran whose ouster ushered in the reign of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini and three decades of Islamic rule.
Now many in this Arab country of more than 5 million people fear that a similar fate could befall King Abdullah II, the Jordanian monarch who assumed power after his charismatic father died in 1999.
