Fashion and Style of Royal Men, Part 9: June 2024 -

Gentlemen wear double-breasted suits when it's windy, as it sure is today.
But I like the tie. - It's a sazzy(?) color and good a contrast to his suit. He couldn't and shouldn't go all out, as the opening of the Parliament is a somber occasion. And as such you never go amiss with a vest.

I've never been able to understand what sazzy really is but I suspect this tie fits well into the definition.

It might help to look for snazzy.

I suspect it’s a variant on “snappy”, but I’m not an etymologist.

It wouldn't. I'm looking for sazzy. Read some of the definitions, still don't get it.

Frederik has some of the most stylish coats imo.

Stylist, elegant and modern
I like the dark coat. That's a nice style, even though the collar isn't particularly practical in this climate.
The grey coat though.
I don't like the outline of the pockets. They are too much in your face and spoils the lines of the coat. But of course the coat would have been irresistible to King Frederik, given his fondness of pockets..

Not liking this look for William, trying too hard to look hip
It's a disaster!

You never ever, as in never, wear a double-breasted suit with anything but matching pants and shoes. If you do, you fail.
You don't wear a light grey suit with dark pants and light shoes. You wear a colored suit or a velvet suit in such a case. Grey simply doesn't work.
You either go full schlager-singer or you fail, William failed.

A good contrast is good, but here the contrast is off.
You either wear a suit in vivid colors with the rest of the ensemble as a subdued contrast.
Or your wear pants in vivid colors, again with the rest of the ensemble as a subdued contrast or a background if you will.
But having two contrasting items in the shape of the suit and the shoes with only the pants as the subdued contrast, no, no and no! It hurts the eyes and confuse the mind. I don't know what to focus on. Had he worn a lilac velvet suit with dark pants and dark shoes with a shirt in neutral color, then the contrast would be there and the eyes and mind less confused. It would have worked.
Clearly his valet was off duty that day, and William dressed himself. He should have asked his daughter for advise. She would know. Daughters always do. They learn such things in secret classes at school.

For next year, I would recommend William wear a black or very dark blue suit. He quite stands out in his blue suit.

William look so dapper in a suit.

What has happened to the POW?? First the beard and now mismatched clothing. Perhaps an outcome of all the stress he's been under😕
The blazer has been identified as a vintage piece, so I'm guessing that this was a nod to re-wearing instead of purchasing new. Unfortunately this combination does not work. IMO he doesn't appear to be comfortable wearing it.

I had thought perhaps the Princess of Wales had been coordinating or at least helping coordinate his clothes prior to her surgery/illness/chemo. Who knows what went wrong?

I like Will's beard for now, not for ever. Whomever picked out his attire bad a bad call. I think he looks embarrassed
to wear it.

Calling William's look a disaster is the least we can say. His grandfather, the Price of Edinburgh is probably saying a few swear words in his grave :giggle:

Wearing a double breasted jacket means perfectly tailored pants, in the same colour and good shoes. Few men today wear the double breast jacket because it's unfashionable and difficult to wear unless you have a great tailor.

William up the ante in his calamity look by wearing the linen jacket with standard off the rack pants. And doubled the mismatched assembly by wearing white running shoes.

As they say, you can have all the money in the world and style and elegance is a whole different ball game.
