The Prince and Princess of Wales are also always hyper-coordinated!

William's near-total lack of style tends to miss the point there. In his case I would very much believe Catherine is handing him the tie.

Because they are matching shades of red; it's not like one is violet-red and the other is orange-red.

Not sure how you see Letizia as not being coordinated, but Felipe pretty much always matches or somehow coordinates his tie to whatever she's wearing when they do events like this. (On occasion it's one of the girls instead of Letizia.)

That may just be Letizia handing him the tie every time (I doubt it, though; Felipe seems to know how to dress himself well at this point), but I can't think of another male royal who makes a habit of presenting a united front like this.

I was actually thinking that the man always has an accessory that is supposed to match the dress of their wife. As is the case here.

But... does Queen Letizia wear anything that match what her husband is wearing? A handbag? Scarf? Shoes? Hat? Brooch? Anything?

Do any royal women do that? Ever...?

It's the double standard that the woman's outfit is of note on its own, and it's the man who opts whether to double act or not.

King Philippe and Prince Emmanuel at today's Christmas reception. I definitely prefer Emmanuel's tie ;)

:previous: Also Frederik's necktie is excellently tied and his shoes are highly polished. Does he polish his own shoes?

Yesterday during the abdication and proclamation in Christiansborg, Crown Prince Christian wore a pair of sapphire (?) cufflinks that belonged to his grandfather, the late Prince Henrik.

I read somewhere, maybe here, that QMII gave Christian items belonging to his grandfather as a birthday gift. Maybe the cufflinks are that gift. They look nice.

It was said that the dress set Christian wore at his birthday gala (the jewelled buttons on his vest) were a gift from Margarethe II and had belonged to the Prince Consort. They are a different set, though. However, we don't know the full extent of the gift, so is possible the sapphire cufflinks were given on the same occasion.

Now this is where "it's winter in Denmark, Norway, Finland etc," begins:

Why don't the men all invest in lovely warm, impeccably tailored top coats? It has to look better than the men in this photo who, as per correct etiquette, are wearing the top button of their suit jackets done up with those below not. It is obvious that they are wearing thermals or some such under their daywear and look a little like stuffed turkeys.

Definitely not a good look.

I agree with Marg. A nice warm coordinating top coat and warm gloves would be just the thing in snow and ice. It’s not just that I come from a normally hot country that I say this. Men in Melbourne often wear top coats in the winter. You can see the men in this photo almost hugging themselves to get a bit of warmth on their bodies as the snow flakes drift down. Are Scandinavian men too macho to wear such garments plus gloves, or something?

I prefer the word: idiotic.

Well, come to think of it: Macho = idiotic.

It is very common to see younger men 12-40 years old wearing shorts all winter here in DK. Even today where it is minus 2-7 degrees C.

Something about hardening themselves to withstand cold. But more likely it's because they want to show off and are too stupid to know that the can suffer a blood cloth, hypothermia, frostbite and eventually arthritis.

If they ever went to Greenland, where people actually know what cold it, they would notice that no one up there does anything that stupid.

I can understand if they were jogging, or cycling or at least walk fast. But no no, they can stand there waiting for the bus while freezing their crown jewels blue.

LOL. Growing up in Chicago, which can get very, very cold in the winter, I knew more than a few men like that myself. That said, no one, male or female except for QMargrethe, was dressed for standing outside in the cold. I could sort of understand Mary and Frederik not having overcoats on, as they were the last to arrive and would be going from the warm car into the warm building, but the others should have taken QMargrethe's example and put a heavy coat on.

:previous: Are King Frederik X's glasses brand new or have we seen him wear these before?

He has a pair of clear frames as well, but he wore the black frames at Christian's 18th birthday dinner back in October.

He used the same glasses at Queen Daisy's Golden Jubilee Gala, or am I wrong? I've seen this frame before

I missed the significance of the spectacles. Knowing he has more than one trendy pair makes me jealous. Frederik looks quite dashing even with them

https://imgix.billedbladet.dk/2024-01-15/_hjp5890.jpg

Back to the suits, these three men, Frederik X being one, all look like they are wearing layers, perhaps thermals or knitted vests because their suit jackets are all straining around the arms and buttons. It's like they all have the same awful Tailor!

I wouldn't take a bet that Queen Margrethe and Mary both had appropriate undergarments and their winter ensembles made to accommodate any small change in fit, but the men have never figured out that it's either thermal unders with a winter suit to accommodate them, or a sharp topcoat, I'm not sure whether they are called overcoats or topcoats in Denmark.

Muhler called it right. The word is indeed, idiotic.

Frederik in glasses, Frederik without glasses...I'll take them all.

His glasses aren’t bad, but I feel like he could benefit from trying some different styles and not just the same frame, although it’s probably an image thing.
