It looks like a nice mulberry or burgundy shade on my monitor: she looks great in it!

The Empress is looking wonderful. I've already commented on the exquisite kimono she wore to the sumo tournament, but it really is spectacular.

The shawl collar on the claret colored suit she wore to the water and culture symposium is especially interesting: it has a little extra detail to it that is not the usual shawl collar, and adds both style and interest to what would otherwise be a fairly standard, although extremely well cut, suit. Whoever is designing her clothing is doing a wonderful job, and I'm looking forward to seeing more.

Masako always looks perfect in kimonos! She is very elegant and refined.

Masako looks really lovely in this. The necklines on the blouse and the jacket are very becoming, and the addition of the necklace is just the right touch. I love that she wears pant suits often, she always looks wonderful in them.

Peach is an excellent color on the Empress, and the fabric itself is lovely; I'm not sure about the styling.

The soft blue of the pant suit is very flattering on Masako, and I like the print of the scarf or blouse. I like the little detail of the contrasting texture of the fabric on lapel and cuffs.

I have a slightly off topic question for those who know more about Japanese culture than I do. Why are the official birthday, anniversary etc pictures taken in front of what appears to be a pegboard wall? It is very neutral but not the most attractive background. It looks like the same board that my dad always had in his workshop with hooks in it to hang tools and stuff. I am referring to the picture where the Emperor and Empress are sitting on the couch.

Masako looks very elegant on both occasions but am not sure about the belt with her dress. I agree that it looks a little juvenile for her and odd with the style of gown.

Hardly juvenile , the dress is appropriate , unfussy , regal.

I love her pearl jewelry. It looks beautiful on her.

I love seeing the Japanese royals in their traditional dress! And Masako is just as beautiful without it, too.

This color is great to her! Very elegant!!
