what a lovely gesture of the skater! maxima looks so happy with the flowers. i would definetely be radiant if someone by his own will and not feeling forced to gave me flowers in the middle of the stadium. didn't willem feel jealous? :)

Erben (the skater who gave the flowers to Maxima) is such a great person! It shows in all he does. He was so happy he finally got his olympic medal, though it's a pity that it was only a bronze one. (Can you tell I'm a huge fan of him? :p)

And thanks for the pictures of the Holland Heineken House, purple_platinum. I was just wondering if W-A had been there to party with the Dutch in Torino. The Holland Heineken House always is very popular at the Olympics. Everybody wants to go there, because the Dutch know how to throw a good party. ;) I've seen huge queues before the HHH at television. It must be great for W-A to be there and to celebrate the medals with the Dutch champions for such a great crowd!

I am so glad to see WA hasnt given up congratulating female athletes at HHH after the Inge de Bruin thing in 2004. he does what he wants to do.

Oh, what was the thing with Inge de Bruin in 2004?

Well, Inge de Bruijn is a Dutch swimmer who won gold at the Olympics in Athens. W-A went to the HHH (as he did now) and on stage he hugged her very enthusiaticly and some German gossip mag published the pictures and made an affair out of it...

Going through the photos from www.fotoleovogelzang.nl (search 'maxima'), I came across this really nice photo of Maxima kissing Alexia's head :) I thought that it was nice, and I wanted to share it with you, so enjoy! :D

The dutch television programme 'Cafe Torino' asked some questions to the crownprince about the Olympics. One of his replies was about his wife, who had to be taught the rules (and charm) of speed skating, but after Willem-Alexander explained she became an even more expressive supporter then the crownprince himself. He also said that Amalia seemed to enjoy the games as well, though she was sometimes cheering 'Holland' when no dutch skater was on the ice ;)
He also said that he gets nervous (& and a 'bow/tie' in the stomach) before a game of a dutch ice skater and that people around him better can not make any jokes or funny remarks.
Though Amalia received four sets of ice skates quickly after her birth she hasn't skated on the ice yet :)

As a belated awnser to Alexandrias question: They crownprince arrived home on monday, so he is not staying untill the end.

Thank you for your explanation. I'm sure WA wasn't fine with that.

funny foto of Maxima :) taken from www.ad.nl

priceless! what a great foto. i love the way she is so unselfconscious. there are sopme royal ladies who would do anything to avoid getting photographed like that. i really dont think M. cares all that much.

That's wonderful Purple Platinum! You chose such beautiful pictures (& a very appropriate song!). I wish I could have seen W-A & his family on TV at the Olympics, but this is the next best thing! Well done!:)

A very nice video: so nice to see something on them. I saw W-A on NBC's little piece on Dutch speed skating fans the other night and was astonished to hear him speak English so well!:p Nice to see royals other than the British ;) getting some American media attention.

purple_platinum, what a great video! :D can I ask you what song that is? I've watched the video once and I can't get 'You're my indigo girl' out of my head! :D
Thanks in advance! :)

I could not see Maxima from the link but I saw MY Clara Hugues girl yess! and I understand WA being nervous when one of his skaters was on - it was the same for me in my living room.

Yes, wasn't that a great piece? All about the love(some might say "obsession") that the Dutch have for speed skating. And it was great seeing him too. Some Non-Windsor royals on American tv. Tonight they showed King Carl Gustaf as well. This might be the beginning of a trend...:D

Well the Dutch and mostly WA's obsession for speed skating is quite understandable. This is a very exciting sport with speed, tactics, team work, individual efforts and luck or bad luck sometimes. The athletes have strange suits I admit but wow are they muscular or what!

I certainly have a deeper appreciation for what they do. The way they go so low around the corners. The endurance on those long races. Very good of them. They are truly athletes.
