He was born in a dinasty of prestigious bullfigthers; she was the descendent of the Alba lineage. Both lost their fathers, in their childhood; Francisco was 10 years old, when a bull killed his father in the arena of Pozoblanco; Eugenia lost her father at three. Both were Madrilenian, but their families feel themselves Andalusian.


With this wedding the coincidences of their lives were finally put together...
even if what God unites not always man does not separate...​

The groom, accompanied by his mother, got dressed in the most bullfighting hotel of Seville, the Colón. Francisco has wanted to leave from here, where one day he prepared himself for his first triumph in the maestranza.

At 11 AM, a carriage with mules (traditionally, only the royal famíly could use horses in occasions as such) left the Palace of las Dueñas (one of the Renaissance jewels of Seville, which belongs to the House of Alba since the 17th century).

It was time to see the most well-kept secret: the bride's dress (describeb as of medieval inspiration), which was designed by Emmanuel Ungaro and whose simplicity (despite the train being finely embroidered with silk thread and perls) emphasized the splendeur of the tiara, inherited from Eugenia de Montijo. The veil belonged to the House of Alba and the shoes were especially made by Pilar Burgos. Finally, the bride was combed by Marga Catalán, who imagined a detachable long braid that fell on her back, practically until the waist.


The bride, escorted by her brother Caytano and a train of young bridesmaids, leaves the Palace de las Dueñas, way to the cathedral of Seville:

Eugenia entered in the cathedral escorted by her brother Cayetano, who took a uniform of maestrante (just the same one he would later use on his own wedding to Genoveva Casanova).

The ceremony was conducted by Don José Carrillo Moreno, family friend of the Ordoñez clan.

Alvaro García Pelayo (a journalist, who is a friend of the groom) read the first biblical passage (taken from the Genesis), Marina Segovia (friend of the bride) read a few verses from St. Paul's Letter to the Corinthians and the last reading was made by Belén Ruiz Ordoñez (groom's cousin)

Among the witnesses on behalf of the bride were the Duchess of Alba, the Dukes of Huéscar, the Count of Siruela, the Marquess of San Vicente del Barco, the Duchess of Osuna, the Duke of Sotomayor, the Marquess of Cubas, the Marquise of Valle de la Paloma and the Marquess of Caltojar.

Already converted into husband and wife, the couple is congratulated by HRH Infanta Elena and the closest relatives. Hearing the "Aleluya" of Haendel, Eugenia and Francisco left then the cathedral, preceded by a courtship of children (Carlos and Fernando Fitz-James Stuart - children of the Dukes of Huéscar - Inês Alvarez, from Asturias, Tomás Terry, Mati and Ines Solis and José Luís Coelho, from Portugal).

After the church ceremony, the bride and groom went to the Virgen de la Esperanza to whom Francisco has a special devotion, and then they pass by the streets of Seville, until the Church of Santa Catalina, where Eugenia offers her branch to the Virgen de las Angustias. From there, the couple went to the Palace de las Dueñas, where the family photo took place.

Antonio Ordoñez, grandfather of Francisco, could not attend the wedding, due to his illness, so Francisco and Eugenia, after the familiar photo taken at the palace of Las Dueñas, visited him in his house of Seville, where he watched the ceremony on TV. That is why the couple arrived late at "La Pizana", an estate with more than three centuries of existence, situated twenty kilometers far from Sevilla (between Gerena and Olivares) and which was given to the bride by her mother, the Duchess of Alba. It was here that, at 5 o'clock in the afternoon, the banquet was finally served to the 1300 guests, by the restaurant Juliá (the same one in charge of the wedding reception of the Dukes of Lugo).

The menu:

1st plate - bogavante and lobster with canons and salad;
2nd plate - suprème of pularda with vegetables and rice;
dessert - the great passion of the groom for chocolate made him choose a black and white chocolate cake with chocolate sauce.

Wines - Marqués de Eliche (white), Duque de Huéscar Reserve 94 (red), Gran Cordoniú (sparkling wine).

In Sevilla, wear mantilla... ​

This isn't a popular saying, but it could be... The traditional Spanish mantilla was requested in the wedding invitation. White mantilla was the deal... but, as always, there were tastes for all colors and there were even ladies, who didn't dare to use it. That was the case of Princess Sophie zu Windisch-Graetz (née Archduchess of Habsburg) and Princess Beatriz de Orléans, who preferred a huge hat designed by Dior.

Among the royal guests were Infanta Elena and Don Jaime de Marichalar, Princes Kubrat, Carla and Kalina of Bulgaria, Queen Margarita of Bulgaria and Princess Tessa von Bayern.


Mantillas for all the colours and tastes:

1-4. the Duchess of Alba (mother of the bride) and husband, Jesús Aguirre;
5-6. the Dukes of Lugo;
7. Carmen Ordoñez (mother of the groom) with Cayetano Martinez de Irujo (brother of the bride);

The wedding is very grand, it seems more grand than Felipes even, a pitty women did not wear mantillas in his wedding. Had someone (not royal) thrown such a spectacle in Norway they would have been the laugh of the year. Well you can always trust in the spanish nobilty to provide fodder for Hola with all their scandals:D

It was a grand wedding but more grand than Prince Felipe's?! Don't make me scan that Hola issue:D , Larzen.

But I understand what you mean... there is something about Sevilha weddings people crowd the streets and the colour and weather of the town makes any wedding grand... Duchess of Alba (like our Elsa;) ) knows how to throw a wedding!

I did not mean litterally grander than Felipes it just Seville is so beautiful, and the weather was nice and the beautiful church as well, when the rained poored down in Felipes wedding, and took place in that (IMO) awful modern cathedral where they had some weeks ago had a memorial for 200 people blown up. And the mantillas also give it such a "spanish" look, very festive.

I agree the tiara and veil look very impressive from the back, but the tiara is a little to big for her IMO, its almost bigger than her head:D she is very small.
