Diana - Style Icon of a Generation

I think it's interesting because there's no doubt that parts of her look were extremely stylish but I don't think it ever caught on. Maybe the hair style did to an extent but I think that takes us into a whole different realm that isn't fashion and is just style and I think when people describe Diana as a style icon, they mean fashion.
 
Is Kate Moss really a fashion icon? The only time I've ever heard of her was when she got cought sniffing cocaine.

But I do agree that Diana looked great in her gowns but she didn't create a style.
 
Well, Kate Moss is (strangely) a fashion icon. She's made Primark acceptable to the well off and has made one look popular. For example, she wears skinny jeans with dresses - well, you see that look everywhere in Britain now. So that to me makes her a fashion icon because she's invented a look which is mass re-produced by women keen to look like her. I don't think people did that with Diana though some of her outfits are more famous than others. For example, I quite like the outfit in the high collar white gown portrait. I think it's classic whilst also being slightly futuristic. Simple but elegant - and that's hard to pull off in plain white. But does that make her a style icon? I think we're all agreed it doesn't!
 
Yeah. But does Kate Moss is always elegant and classy ? not IMO. Even if Diana didn't create a style, she was gorgeous and never provocative in her way of dressing.
 
Well yes but the two were very different. Kate Moss is dressing as a celebrity and as a young woman trying to attract male attention. She doesn't have to be elegant and classy whereas Diana had to dress as befits a member of the Royal Family - though some of the outfits Diana wore were quite provocative.

I'm not an expert on names for the outfits but that black one she wore with the slicked hair. Or was it blue? With the big slit up the side.
 
I think so. It may have been a black sparkly one. I just remember the slit up the side showing alot of leg.
 
I think it's that one yup. I mean, booby-doos are on display too so one could argue that Diana occassionally dressed in a provocative way but come one - if you've got it, flaunt it.
 
Yes, she really had what it takes to look well. Diana, that is. I, also, believe, that she had a confidence in how she looked and she showed that. I barely know who Kate Moss is.
 
In Britain, she's the latest fashion icon selling ranges of clothes by the millionth.
 
Lady Diana was a Lady in the true sense of the word ! She was a true fashion icon,she always knew that the way she dress is an important part of the show ! Diana radiated in style,beauty,compassion and kindness !

The only one I think women of the 20 - 30 age group would wear, if they had a good figure is the 'spangly' one titled 'playing hostess 1983. Although I have to say, the poor woman was looking more than a little skeletal in the picture.
In the Sky gallery, the pink suit (No. 7) is very Jackie O, although IMO, the short sleeves spoil it on someone so painfully skeletal. The Mauve shift in pic 11, is again a classic that had been about for years.

It's true there're many beautiful women who may be even more beautiful than Diana but no one has her carism
she is irreplaceable & her carism will remain the mystery that no one can solve.

:sad:Oh no! This is so awful, she was a talented designer. I hope her line goes on for a very long time.
 
The dresses she designed for Diana in the late 90s are timeless.
 
I'm sorry to hear this. I hope her legacy continues.
 
Thank you Catherine Walker for the wonderful iconic dresses that keeps Diana 'forever young' in memory.
 
Did the pink dress in my avatar get auctioned off? I believe this was worn in Austrailia?
