This is the thread dedicated to the introductory state visit of King Frederik X and Queen Mary of Denmark to Sweden.

It will take place from May 6 to May 7, 2024, the Danish court announced today.

When The King and The Queen travel on Their Majesties’ first official state visit to Sweden at the beginning of May, it will, at the same time, kick off a major tour around the Northern region. After the visit to Sweden, a state visit to Norway follows, after which The King and The Queen will visit the Faroe Islands and Greenland in June and July.

The first state visits will provide the occasion for the new King and Queen to meet with the sovereigns in Sweden and Norway, and they will thus mark the close relations between the Nordic monarchies.

Looking forward to it, but Pity that it is only a 2 Day Visit. Wonder if Prince Daniel will then finally get the Order of the Elephant which he should, but not sure as he so often got lesser Orders recently.

Lovely to see that the royal yacht will be used ! ”Dannebrog” always makes spectacular entrances when it comes to Stockholm.

Hopefully the Swedish royal barge ”Vasaorden” will be used then to bring the Danish King and Queen to shore like in the good old days ?

It will be interesting to see how the Official welcome looks like this time. Not that often anymore that the Official guests arrive by ship.

As Dannebrog usually dock by the quay down the Palace when on visit I guess they will do the same this time. Perhaps the royal barge Vadaorden is used to take the Royal Couples to an expected Official luncheon in the City Hall, as it was done for the Japanese Emperor in 2000.

It will be very interesting to see how they do :) A lot depends on what there is time for i think as it is only a 2-day state visit and the schedule will probably be super tight…

The 2:nd day is usually spent in another swedish city but i wonder if that’s possible now as they come with a boat and not by plane ? Though there is ofcourse the possibility that KFX and QM may go back to Denmark by plane while the crew takes home ”Dannebrog”

The King, Queen, Victoria, Daniel and Carl Philip were today briefed by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs ahead of the visit.

Host broadcaster
Sveriges Television is the host broadcaster and broadcasts Monday morning's welcome ceremonies and parts of the evening's state banquet live.

Ah, that's gonna be a neat arrival. Dannebrog is a beauty and combined with the official royal Swedish chalupe, which is a delightful sight, that's going to be an entry in style!
I see King Frederik will visit the Swedish pendant to the Frogman Corps. I should be extremely surprised if King Frederik didn't work with them when he was in the Frogman Corps himself.

And Queen Mary is to view archetypical Danish art in the shape of paintings by Marie Krøyer.
The world can be odd, eh? A Swedish queen of German/Brazilian decent is presenting Danish art in Sweden to a Danish queen of Australian/Scottish decent. It couldn't be more international.

Marie Krøyer of the renowned Krøyer family did some pretty neat paintings. Like this:
She is one of the ladies depicted here in one of the most popular paintings seen in Danish living rooms:
By Peder Severin.

Looks like both days are fully packed for everyone involved.

Here s the program from the DRF with times

Very jam packed two days. Nice to see the visit to the equivalent of the Danish Frogman, which Frederik completed. Im sure he will have fond memories.

And yes, the royal Dannebrog and royal barge Vasaorden will be a sight to see!

SVT has posted links to their two live broadcasts from the State Visit at SVT Play, both of them available world wide.

In connection with boarding the royal ship today, Frederik and Mary gave an interview and spoke on the upcoming State Visit to Sweden.

"- We feel at home in Scandinavia. We are not only colleagues, but also family. Our cohorts have become friends. We have a fantastic dialogue and a relaxed relationship when we meet, King Frederik tells TV 2.
However, the visit is packed with official tasks that will be influenced by the couple's interests.
- The program we will have during the days we are there also reflects our common interests in research, nature, sustainable development. So we are looking forward to showing what Denmark can do and coming to visit, says Queen Mary."

Stockholm is one of the few cities that it is truly wonderful to arrive at by sea … such as Hong Kong, Istanbul, Sydney.
Most coastal cities you berth at a working/commercial port … which can be interesting … but these few places you actually sail into the heart of, and Stockholm is like that.
A beautiful honey-coloured city of water and arched bridges, and a long voyage to it’s centre past unique homes and buildings, beautiful and bountiful European trees, trim hedges, waterside footpaths, swans, and many, many vessels crisscrossing about.
I hope the weather is good to show this off to its best.
I had no expectations when I went to Stockholm some years ago, and found it to be one of the most beautiful places to ever arrive at by water.
And big enough to accommodate many, many ships at the same time.
I hope the locals turn out in their yachts, and the ferry and tourist boats join in, and make a flotilla for the arrival.
So beautiful.

Dannebrog left Copenhagen yesterday evening at about 7pm. This morning the ship is in the Bay of Hanö, on the east Coast of Scania and south of Blekinge.

It's far from unusual the DRF fly by helicopter to a discreet location and board Dannebrog from there, so that the clock will be 10.00 when Dannebrog arrives in Stockholm. - (The wonderful Søren Haslund Christensen once succinctly pointed out that clock is always 10.00 when Dannebrog arrive somewhere...)

Because tomorrow is Liberation Day here in DK and I think it is expected that the Regent Couple will make an appearance somewhere in DK on that evening. Especially as it is their first year of King Frederik's reign. Hence why I believe they fly out to meet Dannebrog.

What a lovely post by the Swedish RF IG account. They've posted a sweet photo of Princess Estelle and Prince Oscar making Danish flags in anticipation of "their godparents" on Monday 6th May.

the Swedish RF IG account have posted, in connection with the State visit, some photos related to the familial connection between Sweden and Denmark. Obviously these are old photos from the archives. Lovely photos.

Obviously the photo has been taken on the King's birthday, since they have the same clothes than then.

The Swedish Armed Forces at its website:
The Danish state visit begins with ceremonial rowing with HM Barge Vasaorden. The rowing is over in half an hour, but for the 46th rowing company, preparations have been going on since March.
The 46th Rowing Company, which is a temporary company within The 4th Naval Warfare Flotilla, is commanded by Captain Michael Langhard.
- It is a great honor and a joy that rowing with Vasaorden is so much wanted by the Royal House. It is the highest grade to be able to do it again and again, says Captain Michael Langhard, commander of the Vasa Order.
The preparation time has been six weeks: Three with basic rowing and exercise training in a whaleboat and three weeks in Vasaorden.

It will be a sight to behold to once again see ”Dannebrog” arrive to Stockholm, and this time be met by the only royal boat we have in Sweden, though the royal barge ”Vasaorden” is a spectacular one…

As there is almost no head of state who arrives by boat anymore, this type of welcoming ceremony is extremely rare..

Hadn’t i been on Cyprus at the moment, i would have been there myself to look. Now i hope the tv-broadcast (wich is very unusual for state visits to Sweden) will be a good one

How long does it take to sail from Denmark to Stockholm? I'm assuming Frederik and Mary will sail from somewhere in Denmark to Stockholm rather than, say, flying to Sweden and then boarding the Dannebrog there.

By the speed Dannebrog sails I'd estimate most of 48 hours.
My friends and I, a bunch of old sailors, were discussing this yesterday, how fast is the Dannebrog? We estimated it would take a lot longer from Copenhagen than 48 hours if the boat makes about 10 knots.

Well, Dannebrog does about 12-13 knots/h = about 20 km.
And if we say there is about 750 km from Helsingør to Stockholm it should take her about 33 hours.

Normally Dannebrog will be escorted by a warship when she leaves Danish waters but as the Swedish coast is fairly free from pirates, she'll probably be on her own this time.
The warship acting both as an escort, but just as much as a tender and if need be a rescue ship. And if King Frederik needs to be back in DK in a hurry the helicopter on the escorting ship can take him to shore where he can fly on to DK. But as Dannebrog is here hugging the Swedish coast a boat will suffice I imagine.

The Royal Watcher IG has posted a series of photos related to previous visits between the two royal families.

Here is their article on the visits with more detail.

The DRF Instagram has posted great archival photos with a caption of the familial relations with the Swedish royal family.

Added:
Reel from the Swedish RF Instagram showing the preparation of the Vasa in anticipation of the royal couple's arrival on 6 May. Awesome!

Yes, I know it is not about the bling part of the state visit, but important information nonetheless

The Swedish RF Instagram has posted photos of the previous Danish State Visits with some great photos

Dannebrog has stopped her journey to Stockholm. It seems like she is mooring south of Swedish island of Muskö, east of the town Nynäshamn. Muskö is home to one of the biggest naval bases in Sweden and Nynäshamn with ferry traffic to Gotland, Gdansk and the Baltics.

I assume the King and Queen will be taken from Nynäshamn to Dannebrog later today for the last leg into central Stockholm

Thanks for this Kingen.
All the vessel tracking websites now have the Royal ship back out at sea … leaving at 6.41pm local time and making 7 knots.
She seems to be heading away from the coast.
Maybe the couple are onboard and she needs to “waste” some time overnight and amble a bit before turning back towards land.
Last year I followed “Miss Silver” a bit around the Med when Chris Meehan and Michaela Ward had Mary and Frederik with them, but then they turned off their AIS and that was that!
Being an official vessel on a promotional voyage I don’t expect that will happen with Dannebrog.
Interesting she is classed as a military ship.
Any locals wanting to sail into Stockholm with her will know when and where to join her.
