While I am thinking, we can indeed not compare Mette Marit, Mary and Daniel, I am though thinking, that both Daniel and Mette Marit were underestimated and had to face lots of criticism.

Daniel was in the press and for many people the gym trainer without education (I think many still believe he wasn´t an gym owner, when he did meet Victoria) and Mette Marit the "junkie", who had a child with a drug dealer.

Mary, on the other hand, got portrayed as "lawyer" by many, while she "just" has a bachelor of law and commerce.

I guess this has a lot to do with the kindness of the Danish people, but also with the fact, that Mary was no Dane.

I agree, Lola. I think you lead it to the point. Daniel was underestimated in terms of that he was seen as "just" Victoria's gym trainer.

Somehow, I it comes to my mind there may have been a marketing strategy going on behind the palace doors since months or years in order to establish a good picture of Daniel in the public. I can imagine that everyone in the palace knew that Daniel is actually a nice guy but that his background and his health might cause objections against him in the country. So they kept his public actions and appearences on sort of low grounds until the wedding day speech to let him shine on that day - and what a great speech it was. It caused such a positive "oh"-effect in the public. And now everyone loves him because they might think that he is absolutely capable to handle the duties that are awaiting him for the rest of his life. Now they see in him the potential to be a great prince of Sweden and consort to his wife.

The court didn´t correct the picture media made of Daniel, because he wasn´t part of the royal family. And because of that he also didn´t have any official engagements and he stayed at the background until now, when he belongs to the royal family. I read from some interview, that Daniel has made quite a many speeches as an entrepreneur since 2006. And his friend from Ockelbo said at a TV-interview, that Daniel is such a good debater, that he could keep discussion courses to anyone in the world.
A former head of the press relations of the president of Finland said at a TV-program during the wedding, that she had been on a visit at Daniel´s gym some years ago and that she was very impressed of Daniel´s speech when he presented the gym to the executives visiting there.

The best indication of Daniel is the fact that Victoria decided he was the man she wanted as her husband. She is very committed to her role and to Sweden, she is very intelligent and hardworking so she would not chose someone who would not be someone she could identify with. Daniel passed her test for husband and the rest of the world has now seen the real Daniel.

This is what I meant also. I don't doubt in any way that he is actually a very talented young man. But he was for over a year the fiancée of the crown princess and had some official events that he attended together with Victoria or other royals - so actually the palace was involved in some way. However, the palace didn't put too much effort to, let’s say, please the press with a positive image of Daniel. So he was most of the time taken not too serious. And I think the palace did it because they knew that Daniel is in fact a very decent and good man for Victoria. But the expectations of the people (and the press) were not very high on Daniel on his entrance into the world of royalty. And then Daniel behaved so perfectly on that day that everyone was positively surprised - except for the palace as they knew that it would turn out exactly this way.

I think that the royal family played this out very well. The motto is "under promise, over deliver", and that's exactly what they and Daniel did. No promises/assumptions were made about Daniel, but he delivered big time on the wedding day. No real question in my mind as to why he has his order and an HKH (HRH) before his name now. Perfectly presented. As many people, my opinion of he and Victoria (by default) has risen considerably.

This is so true and well said.

Photos from the honeymoon: Crown Princess Victoria and her husband Prince Daniel on their honeymoon at Bora Bora. They have been sailing around the islands, snorkeling and just enjoying the company of each other. The honeymoon will continue until August. According to rumours the couple will now go to USA.

They look like to be in a seventh heaven, and they are wearing their matching bracelets.

Have they given permission for these pictures to be taken?
Cause they are really up close.
It's a shame that they were find, Bora Bora is a nice place.

They have given an interview to swedish Aftonbladet, it is on today´s paper version of the paper. The photos are from the interview. Actually, I think that it is a quite good media strategy, if they are away from Sweden for six weeks (rumour) to meet the press on a couple of days for an hour and give some photos. Then they are left alone.

Oh yeah i think it's the best idea too.

Sweet pictures. Looks like they approved them to be taken and published.

One thing annoys me. It's that Daniel is called still "Daniel Westling" in the pictures, even if Victoria is called Crown Princess Victoria. It's High Time to learn to call him Prince Daniel! :bang:

Hi, has anyone on the forum any english translations of the interview of Expressen or Aftonbladet? That would be nice, I can't wait discover their first impressions as a married couple. Thanks!

They look radiantly happy! I notice that Daniel is wearing long sleeve shirts on both interview days. Apparently, a sunburn can be dangerous for people with kidney problems.

Im suprised they are still being followed by journalists.
They look really happy and enjoying their time. They dont look tanned yet :D
I wonder where they will go in the United States if the rumors are true.

I agree with this. Although I was hoping that they'll let them alone after Expressen got the pics and interview.
They look really happy at those pics and enjoying their time.

These are cute pictures. I think Victoria's and Daniel's media strategy is effective. Agree to shoot a couple of pictures and give a few interviews for the price that for the rest of their honeymoon they will be let alone and in private. I think that makes everyone happy.

They looks so happy )))
by the way, when they return home?

There's way too much seaweed on the sand. I had a feeling they would stop in Bora Bora.
They look so happy!
And I love seeing Daniel wearing Aviators.

Its messed up the way they have to do photo-ops and interviews on their honeymoon!
I wish they would leave them alone until August.

Probably because they've been inside most of the time:D:D.

I love the Bora Bora pictures and I officially think Daniel should keep wearing Aviators. I would love to know where in the US they will come...

Time frame of royal honeymoons

Perhaps I may seem a bit insensitive (which I really don't intend to ), but I read that the newlywed couple will have a reprieve (or honeymoon, as lovers tend to term it) from royal obligations until they attend a commemorative ceremony on August 21, 2010. Why is this? No seriously, what is the normal time frame in which a newly married crown couple has spent on their honeymoon. I was thinking of perhaps doing a bit of research on this (as I tend to do everything), just to see the range of honeymoon lengths (as well as lengths between the wedding and the birth of a royal couple's first child).

:previous: Since a honeymoon is that special time where a man and a woman become husband and wife in reality. They learn to live with one another and also get a chance decompress from all the pre-wedding stress which, in the case of a Royal Wedding, is multiplied to the nth degree.

And let's not forget, Princess Victoria took time out from that which had been set aside for the preparation for her wedding to do a quick "Official" trip to Seattle in the US, covering for her sister.

When they return from their honeymoon the are going to be under intense scrutiny and Prince Daniel, as Sweden's newest Prince, is going to be under even more pressure as the first male consort. I don't envy them their return.
