Thanks for scanning the article! But page 1 doesn't show, so one can only read the second half of the article.

You're welcome KikkiB. Page one works for me when I click on the link, but ImageShack does have a tendancy to not show things at certain times, so try again and if it doesn't work, just tell me and I'll repost the link :flowers:

Mary writes with her right hand. There are photos, specifically her first official trip back to Australia, were she signed her name in a guestbook with her, surprise, right hand.

Just a side tip: You can usually tell what hand someone writes with by noticing what wrist they wear a watch on. Right-handed people will often wear a watch on their left wrist, left-handed people vice-versa.

I actually think Mary and Frederik "let" the press/media/photographers take photos of them for purely selfish reasons, i.e. they want those *family* snaps for their own personal album...You can buy those photos from certain media agencies and I think Frederik is pretty clever at striking up a deal with them to...Like he might say "Yes, you can take a photo of me and my family, but in return I would like professionally printed photos of all shots, possibly 8" x 10" sent to me personally"...Those ones taken in Tasmanian in the wildlife sanctuary look along the same lines...cute happy snaps of the family and Christian in his first encounter with Australian wildlife...now who wouldn't want those sorts of photos in their private photo albums?

Now one more trivial question...Is Mary a left-hander? I thought/think she is...I remember vaguely from the wedding noticing her sign the book and saying "Wow, she's a left-hander just like me :) "

It seems to me that allowing the press to photograph you if you're a royal is a pretty common thing. As Userdane has already pointed out Mary and Frederik aren't the only ones who have done it.

I think allow the press to take photos is a loving and kind way to create affinity with the public in general and with the Danish people in particular! They are Royal Family supported in one way by Danish taxes so they have a commitment with Danish people and I think is their way to say thanks and to be near them! I really don't want to compare but for example Princess Letizia and Filipe doesn't show too mucht unless if there have a Public event and that leed sometimes to some gossips, intrigues and that doesn't seam to happen with this royal Danish couple!

the photos are so cut. a very lucky family and christians snow suit is so cut.
but mary dosn't look pregnancy less than she was pregnant with christian.

JessRulz, how do you manage to use a recent photo as your avatar, I have tried but with no luck. :ermm:
A few tips would be greatly appreciated :flowers:
Thanks in advance if you have time.

Her jacket is lovely that light blue looks really good on her. They now must be returning home, don't they?

but mary dosn't look pregnancy less than she was pregnant with christian.[/quote]
I also can not understand how she does it! She does not even look like she is going to have a baby in just a few months. I wish I could have looked that great with my three.

According to this press release from the Municipality of Århus (in Danish), HRH The Crown Princess will pay a visit to Gellerup, an Århus equivalent to Odense’s Vollsmose, which Her Royal Highness visited in August 29, 2006, on March 6, 2007, at 11.00. Her Royal Highness will be able to get to know some of the neighbourhood’s residents and workers by the means of visiting local institutions, businesses and projects. In the press release, The Mayor of Århus, Mr. Nicolai Wammen, issues the following statement (my translation): “Gellerup is a very exiting residential area, where many positive things are happening, things that deserve attention and encouragement. Therefore, it is an immense joy that The Crown Princess has wished to closely experience everyday life in the area. Her visit is a lovely pat on the back for the positive efforts made in the area”.

I recently found this clip of Princess Mary talking about proper childhood nutrition - she really has a lovely voice and is so confident speaking in front of a camera.

YouTube - Crown Princess Mary's speech

Thank you for posting that, it was very interesting to watch. I've noticed that when she speaks English, her voice is taking on enough of a lilt, that she sounds like a native Danish speaker speaking English, as opposed to a native English speaker speaking English.

I've heard that too! Quite facinating, from a linguistic point of view! One should think that the mother tongue was so stuck that no other language would interfere. But I think it might have something to do with Danish being a glottal language with "soft" consonants, which seem to make the combination of Danish and English hard.

Though, the Queen speaks very good BBC English, so it is possible to combine the two languages. CP Frederiks English is also flavoured by the Danish language, while his brother speaks English with little/no Danish flavour. I guess that is due to the years with Alex. My reference to say this is the Danish tv-series En Kongelig Familie - which just re-ran on NRK - where they speak about Christian 9. and his decendants, and also my qualifications as an English teacher.

I think the lilt is the remnants of her Scottish accent; nothing to do Danish. Will Scottish members of this forum please confirm if I´m right or wrong?

I cant hear any remnants of a Scottish accent, I think she spoke like a normal Australian. I cant seem to find any Scottish lilt, maybe im not looking hard enough :)

how can that be possible? my first language is spanish and i have been living in an english speaking country for more than 5 years... but my spanish accent didn't change at all and i doubt it does for the 99% of the people. when you are native in a language, there's very little possibility (to not say impossible) of your native accent degrading to that one of a foreign unless you leave your contry when you are really young. it's vitually impossible in my opinion.

No, if people around her speak "danish" english all the time... It might change quickly back into "Australian" English when she is back in Australia...
Everytime I was in Vienna visting my Vienna cousins, after a while me and my sister started speaking with a little Vienna accent and my Vienna cousins with a little german accent... that changed quickly back when we were back in Germany.
I don't know about Mary's English... to me it sounds normal. Also to me her Danish sound pretty good, but I am not that good in Danish... Do you think she still has an English accent?
Oh, and I really like her coat.

I listened to Mary's speech and I think she speaks with an Australian accent but quite a refined one.I am native english speaker and have noticed that in Australia there are many degrees of accent from the very pronounced to the type Mary has.The same could be said of North American english, from the American deep south to the small villages of Newfoundland both are English but they sound different.I have a feeling she is just trying to enunciate well so that everyone understands her easily.

Marlene, as an Australian you are right about the *Australian accent* thing...there are different degrees...the further North you go (Queensland, NT) it is broader, more ocker you could say...but further South is more refined and articulate...and Tasmania - where Mary grew up - is seen to be the exception...as my father used to say, "Tasmanians are more English than the English"...so combine that "Englishness" of the Tasmanian accent, with Mary's Scottish parents, growing up in Australia surrounded by different Australian accents, then marrying a French*/Dane...no wonder Mary's accent sounds a bit mixed up??!!!

*When everyone says Prince Henrik's Danish is awful and his accent is still so French (I have never heard Henrik speak, just hearsay) I think this might be the reason that Frederik's Danish gets criticised, because that is what he grew up with, his French father "trying" to speak Danish...and that is what Mary now has to contend with, learning Danish from a guy (Frederik) who in turn learnt it from someone with whom it was a second (or third or fourth) language...so Henrik has a lot to answer for ;)

Mary never had a Scottish accent. She was born and raised in Australia.

Of course Mary has never had a Scottish accent, Tinika...but she was, and we all are influenced by the way our parents speak...

I am sure behind closed doors in the Donaldson household, circa 1980, young Mary probably said a few words and phrases with a definite Scottish flavour...but at school or with her friends (with Australian-born parents) she may have over compensate for this and spoke a bit more broadly Aussie, to fit in or to not be seen as TOO different...Now she is trying to once again "fit in" and adjusting her accent accordingly...

Sorry, but it can happen - I´m a native English speaker and I speak English with a "European" accent now, having lived abroad for 5 years. The problem for Mary may arise more from her speaking English with foreigners as she will adapt her way of speaking to make it easier for them to understand and may also pick up their way of speaking.

you are very funny! you said you don't want to compare but here you are comparing the Crown Couple of Denmark to the Princes of Asturias! Intrigues don't happen to Fred and Mary? hello? are you watching or perhaps reading the posts here? there are many intrigues and gossips about the Danish couple just like any other crown couple... or are you only limited to the news re the danish couple.. maybe bec they're your favorite. i can see that.. if you could just open your eyes there are so many gossip and intrigues re the danish crown couple....:):ROFLMAO:

It's really nive to read the interview / talk they have with the Journalist in Verbier, once again they show to be very open with all their questions, very natural and friendly with all the journalist, again I have never seen that in other royals and to me that is very positive for them!!Also I think they really enjoy life out of the Palace!! We cannot see that for example with Letizia and Filipe, they only appear in public acts!!!To me this is really negative for them!

well, honey that would be bec they prefer going out of public related to their duties...i'm not saying that they don't actually go out other than their royal duties but hello we can see that F&L are not really those type of people.. How can you say that it is very negative of them not to entertain media when they are outside not doing anything related to their royal duties? why negative when some people think its good that you don't feed media lots of pictures concerning your daily whereabouts.:rolleyes::rolleyes:

I'm arriving a bit late to the conversation, but I only just heard Mary's speech - and thanks to the person who posted the link, it was very interesting - and I wanted to say I think she still sounds like an Aussie, just a well-spoken one from a professional background. I didn't detect any unusual lilt.:)
