I have a question to our Belgian posters, will they announce when Mathilde has gone into the hospital to have the baby or will they just announce once the baby is born?

It's anounced when she goes into hospital. A few hours after the baby is born, the birth is anounced together with the baby's name and the choice of godparents.

It'll probably be a day or two before we get to see the first pictures.

23rd September 2005

Prince Philippe visits the domain and castle of Seneffe for the manifestation "Europe and science, from the Montgolfière to the Ariane Missile", that lasts several days. The prince visits the exhibitions that aim to create a bigger interest for science with young people. He's also present at a conference by Belgian astronaut (and personal friend of Philippe) Frank De Winne .

Thank you for the photos, Catherine. I can't recall the name of the "thing" Phillippe is riding on but I saw quite a few being used on the sidewalks of Washington, DC recently!

yep here baby could be born any day now:D
i can't wait

I am so excited I keep on logging on to the forum expecting an announcement but as yet nothing. When is her actual due date? She will probably go into labour over a weekend when I can't check and by the time I get to work it will almost be "old" news

I understand your impatience...to be honest, I confess I created some days ago a "Google Alert" on the subject, it's supposed to pop-up on my laptop as soon as the big news hit...:D 'and I did the same for the next royal births in Denmark and Spain.

Back to Princess Mathilde: I'm feeling the baby will come on Saturday October 1st. Just a feeling I have.

I should do that too but I am on the internet at work and I don't think my boss would appreciate the interruption to my work.

Was September 15 her last public event? I bet she's going to give birth this week.

Yes, that was her last public event. I thought she looked very ready to deliver at that point so I expect it any day -- and can hardly wait!

Thank you very much for the pictures Cathérine.:) They're great. I've looked for pictures at some of the photo agencies for this event, but couldn't find any. I thought for sure there would be pictures, since there have been a lot of pictures from a lot of Philippe's latest official duties. Glad you were able to find some.:)

About the baby. Just when we thought they couldn't fool us, they did.:D Some of us, including myself, thought the baby would be born in September, because Elisabeth and Gabriel were born the month before the month they were expected for. But clearly that hasn't happened, so 1-0 to Philippe and Mathilde.:D Hope too we'll see a new Belgian royal soon.

im not sure when CP Mathilde will due anyday if time or her water will break any time, snoepy but we have wait and see what happened of her if their baby will dues in first weeks or more weeks but we have wait and see what happened of her.

Elisabeth was born premature, though, so that wasn't trickery on her parents' part. And Gabriel was born in the latter half of August, so they could have just under-estimated how far along Mathilde was in her pregnancy.

How do you know that about Elisabeth? Just curious because I have never heard that. Is it also true that CP Mathilde had a C-Section with Elisabeth and, if so, were there any problems with the pregnancy that people know of?

At a certain point in the pregnancy it was anounced Mathilde woudn't be performing any royal duties anymore, because she had to rest. There were no real medical problems, she was just getting overtired. Apart from her 'royal job', she was also preparing her exams (she was studying psychology at the university of Louvain) and t was probably a bit too much. But at the end of the pregnancy (really the last weeks), she went back to work anyways.

Elisabeth wasn't born premature. Mathilde had a C-section because the umbilical cord was wrapped twice aound the baby's neck and she was in breech presentation.

CP Mathilde had c-section with her daughter when she was born and she had natural birth with her sons when he was born but im not sure if she would plans have double c-section like her daughter did but we have wait and see!

Thank you for answering my questions, Catherine.

I was told on this forum that Elisabeth was born a week early.

That's not premature. Premature means born at least for weeks early.

No, it must depend on where you live. Premature where I live is considered anything a week or more before the due date. My niece was born 10 days before we expected and the doctor described her as premature.
