some more pictures of Philippe & Mathilde visiting Lanaken. The hat Philippe received and put on was the hat that "prince Carnaval" gets to wear, so Philippe wasn't the only prince around

Really nice coat Mathilde was wearing (reminds me a bit of the red one she wore a few months ago at the opening of the exhibition on queen Astrid). A pitty I can't get a closer view of her shoes (my absolute weakness )

Wonderful photos! I wonder if this type of carnival has a long history? Surely they are going to use those exquisite costumes more than once. The costumes look like they date from medieval time.

In Belgium every small town has a carnaval around this time and a prince carnaval is elected. I don't know how far back that goes but a long time I think.

I just wanted to know if there is a picture of this picture that Mathilde is unveiling. It looks like a new picture of Phillippe and Mathilde and their kids. And does anyone know when it was taken? At Emmanuel's baptism perhaps?

Thanks for the information on the carnival, Catherine. Yes, I wish we had a better photo of Mathilde's whole outfit -- the coat is indeed pretty. Alexandria -- I don't know anything about that photo you reference. I also think it looks like Elisabeth is dressed the way she was at the baptism but I can't get a clear enough of idea of what the others were wearing to know. I sure would like to see a clear photo of them all -- I almost wonder if it was a Christmas card sent to select organizations or something.

No, it can't be from Emmanuel's baptism; because on the picture Mathilde doesn't wear her hair in an updo, and at the baptism she did. Maybe it's from the photosession in the hospital a few days after Emmanuel's birth?

Is it a photo? It rather looks like a painting to me. Perhaps it wasn't based on a photo, but the artist made the composition himself. It looks very beautiful, I hope we'll get to have a better view of it...

I'm also wondering if it's a painting, perhaps a local paiter made it for them.
It would be a little strange to hand over a photo to the prince and princess which they have sent themselves as a christmas card.

Have some Belgian posters seen the new royalty programme yesterday on Vijftv? I did and it looked good, but not so much different from Royalty on VTM, What did you think?

I did, and I liked it, it focusses on the princesses, on their image, family life, fashion. So that's different from "Royalty". But of course we already have so many royalty programs in Belgium (Royalty, Bal Royal, C'est du Belge, Place Royale) they're bound to treat the same subjects.

I do like this presenter a lot better than the woman presenting Royalty.

Purple Platinum -- you are great to post so many of these photos. I really, really like her Dark Tan coat with the Dark Brown trim. I think the colors look so beautiful on her. And I agree with you that the photo of she and Philippe sharing something is great -- so typical of their interactions based on what we see in other photos.
