I like the date. It will be on a Saturday. Which makes it easier for me to watch the coronation live.
I wasn't expecting them to announce the coronation date today.

Heh - so, Bloomberg was wrong, and Charles gets his own date, quite separate from his mother's.

Good to hear the coronation is on a Saturday. Makes it easier for me too watch live. Now i only hope it will not down scaled too much otherwise i might loose Interest.

I hope the FA, the Football League, the RFU and the broadcasters agree to switch all matches that weekend to a Sunday! I know Charles and Camilla aren't into football or rugby, but a lot of people are, and that'll be at the most crucial stage of the season.

No Bank Holiday, then.

Sky have pointed out that it's Archie's birthday, but I don't think that's got any relevance at all: it's just a coincidence.

I'd say chances of an extra bank holiday are slim, the most they'd probably do is move the bank holiday on the Monday before it to the Friday to create a long weekend but I doubt they will. If they are "mindful of the costs" putting a bank holiday in for a Saturday event doesn't seem likely.

I think finding a date that suits (and you don't want it clashing with some other big event somewhere in the UK as that requires stretching of resources and even international events need looking at) is likely very hard so it is probably nothing more than a coincidence.

Gutted no bank holiday! Though we’ve probably had enough this year. Already I am seeing remarks about why is Camilla being crowned and Philip wasn’t

I'll probably watch some of it on BBCiplayer as I am not home on Saturday's until 20.00 pm. Some people are saying they want a big Coronation to cheer themselves up, even if they have lots of bills; but it looks like it will be very low-key. A question no one can answer; but I wonder if William would be similar in size to the Queen's?

So it will be on Archie’s birthday. Well that will be fun trivia for years to come.

I don't think it will be "very low-key". It can be slimmed down and still display pageantry. There will be Westminster Abbey, choirs, heralds, the crown jewels, the religious leaders in their fanciest garb, Yeomen of the Guard, royals in tiaras, fabulous music and an ancient ceremony (hopefully shorter than last time). There will be the golden coach, cavalry on horseback, marching military bands etc etc. with flags everywhere.

At least now we have a date! I’m a bit surprised that early May was chosen weather-wise, though. It can be a bit rainy and overcast in that month in England, though the temperatures are usually quite nice later in May. The main hope is that it doesn’t rain, as London will be packed.

I can't believe I'll be in London in May, but will just miss the coronation!
Oh well, probably see more on television anyway.

Late spring is a nice time of year for any ceremony! (wedding, graduation, baptism, coronation, etc.)

And Lili's was during the jubilee. What a dilemma. I would go to the ceremony but then not go to any afters. Which seems their style anyway. They don't want to miss his birthday. And I am sure there will be all kinds on that day.

Looking forward to the coronation. I am glad it ti on a Saturday. So much easier to watch.

The Royal House published information about the coronation date on the official website:

Camilla is still being cited as "The Queen Consort", but the most significant news, in my opinion, is that it has now been confirmed that she will be crowned alongside the King.

The Palace's statement made me curious though about the ceremony. It seems like they are looking for a balance between tradition and modernity.

The Coronation will reflect the monarch’s role today and look towards the future, while being rooted in longstanding traditions and pageantry.

I'm a bit surprised about the wording of the sentence below. Why do they say that Charles is crown ALONGSIDE The Queen Consort and not the other way around? I would think that the main person would be Charles and his wife will be crowned alongside him...

The Ceremony will see His Majesty King Charles III crowned alongside The Queen Consort.

(or maybe it just sounds different to my Dutch-mother tongue ears)

the moment I saw that sentence I thought exactly the same thing! Exactly. The PR offensive is in full swing (not a Camilla fan, sorry).

Yesterday I found this video about More speculation about a scaled-down monarchy.

I hope the ceremony goes off with the same smoothness and respect from all as her late Majesty's funeral. I'm an American and I want to see the history, religious aspects and yes, the jewels!

What PR offensive? They've been married for what, 17 years? People need to get over it. Like, all the way over it. He's the King, she's his wife, therefore she's the Queen. She gets crowned in Westminster Abbey just as the Queen Mother was when George VI was coronated.

People have had almost 20 years to get over the fact that Charles and Camilla are married. It's high time they start doing so. If William and Harry have no ill feelings toward her, and I've seen nothing that says they do, then everyone else needs to take their cue.

This seems so silly to me. They’ve been married since 2005. They clearly care for each other deeply. She’s been very good in her role.

At this point, it just seems like people can’t let go of old grudges driven by the tabloid media when they say stuff like this.

I’m glad she will be crowned alongside Charles. The job of monarch is very lonely. George VI needed Elizabeth, Elizabeth II needed Philip, and Charles III needs Camilla. Seems as simple as that to me.

Agree with all of the above but still don't understand why they don't say that Camilla is crowned alongside Charles but instead state that Charles is crowned alongside Camilla... As if Camilla is the monarch instead of Charles (and he the +1).

I think it may just be different parsing of the sentence and it’s an awkward statement

Breaking BBC news. Coronation will be Saturday 6 May 2023. Camilla will be crowned as well.

Thanks! I'll clear my calendar because I'm hope we see one spectacular event broadcasted worldwide.
Re Camilla, I wasn't a fan during the Diana days, but it's been ages and I let it go. He's happy because she's by his side.

It’s a good thing Charles has already had his appendix out! Edward VII’s coronation had to be postponed due to Edward contracting appendicitis and having to have it removed.

Just for curiosity: when did he have his appendix cut out?;)
