Thankfully her tiara is still in the UK and wasn't broken up or sold off to pay off inheritance taxes!
Yes indeed. It is such a marvelous tiara.

I know this blog suggests that the Bandeau was inherited by Alexandra, but has this ever been confirmed? My understanding was that Alexandra received no major jewellery from her mother, it was all left to her brothers. Her mother's expectation was that it was for Alexandra's in-laws to provide her jewellery.

She was the only person aside from her mother who wore the tiara, but it’s possible her mother simply loaned it to her. She did get jewels from her mother and her husband’s family.

Fair point. But then, she also wore the Fringe tiara, which ended up with Michael.

The future of the Kent and Gloucester jewels remain uncertain

Other than it was a gift from her Canadian friends I could not find any other information.
I assume from that it was made in Canada?

Does this tiara belong to the royal family? Can it be used by members of the Royal Family?

Who sold the tiara to the British government?
The family
In November, the Arts Council England published its report on a pair of government programs designed to allow important works of art to transfer into public ownership, and the Fife Tiara was listed among the culturally-significant items that now belong to the British people. A panel of experts recommended that the tiara be accepted by the government in lieu of tax.

The Cambridge sapphires!

The Cambridge sapphires!

She gave it to Princess Marina, Duchess of Kent as a wedding gift. It was sold by the current Duke of Kent in the 1980s. A great loss.

Were the Cambridge Sapphires defiantly sold off?
They were last seen on the duchess of Kent in the mid 80's.

From the article posted above:

But at some point, the Kents decided to sell the original tiara from the parure. In its place, they had a new button-style tiara constructed using diamond and sapphire clusters from other parts of the set. Above, the Duchess of Kent wears the new tiara for a banquet at the Guildhall during a state visit from the Emir of Bahrain in April 1984.

What a shame and I'm not too keen on the current sapphire and diamond buttons version!

A real shame, indeed. The Duchess of Kent has not appeared in a tiara for years, so I would be surprised if we saw the sapphire button tiara any time soon.

It must be over 20 years if not more.
What will happen to the Kent jewels in the future!
