SUMMER 2024

According to various information, the Royal Family will arrive earlier in Palma de Mallorca this summer as their schedule has been adjusted for the Olympic Games.

The regatta begins on Sunday 28th July and will conclude on Saturday 3rd August.
 
According to Mallorca press:

- King Felipe VI will arrive in Palma on July 23.
- King Felipe will receive the local authorities in audience at the La Almudaina Palace on July 24.
- On July 26, King Felipe and Queen Letizia will attend the opening of the Olympic Games.
- Queen Letizia will attend the closing gala of the Atlàntida film festival, at La Misericòrdia, on July 28, where she will present the Masters of cinema award to Michael Douglas.
- On July 29, King Felipe and Queen Letizia will receive a representation of Balearic society at the Marivent Palace.

This will be the summer of "no holidays"... on August 16, King Felipe travels to the presidential inauguration in the Dominican Republic, and on August 22 he will attend the opening gala of the America's Cup in Barcelona.
 
A very busy few weeks ahead for the king!
 
They're one of the most hard-working royals, or perhaps, the most. Their schedule is intense, all year around.
 
The king could well do without attending all of the Latin American Presidential Inaugurations and what a pity he currently does not have anyone he can dispatch to take his place and get some rest!

The Spanish Royal Family is now almost reduced to three people able to travel long trips, king and queen and now Leonor. Queen Sofia is now at a stage that she needs to slow down, but she still covers social events that are not so intense. And princess Sofia is not even ready until she follows the steps of Leonor, since if something happened to the king, she would be the new princess of Asturias.

The king's sisters are out of representing him since they are no longer working royals. Until Leonor and Sofia age a bit and become more involved in activities the heavy representation duties fall on Felipe and Letizia.

When I read comments from fellow Spaniards in some of the twitter links complaining on Felipe's trips, reminds me he is as head of state, and the queen, are covering same exact duties as a president and first lady in any republic. And no one ever complains.

But in the case of a monarchy the king and queen are not just covering representation duties but embodying a direct line from the king of Asturias that started to recover the peninsula, microstate by microstate over a millennia ago. No elected president or first lady can even come close to the historical relevance of a royal family's duty to the country their ancestors basically formed into one nation.

In private industries no one ever complains when the company passes from parent to child, they don't see they too copy the monarchy system at a family level.
