Trooping the Colour 2: 2023 -

I can't fathom why anyone would begrudge Lady Louise appearing with her parents on the balcony.

Also, it was wonderful to see Charles and Catherine stood next to each other, enjoying the flyover together. It's always been clear they had a lovely bond, but I can't imagine how much stronger it is after these recent months.

Lady Louise looked really nice and elegant today. .
Yes she does and I believe that she is wearing the same dress she wore one year ago to the Coronation.
While Louise is not a princess, she reminds me of Belgium's Elisabeth, Norway's Ingrid Alexandra, The Netherlands Amalia and Spain's Leonor. She appears to be a polite and respectful young woman.

Here are some more photos of today:

Lovely parade from start to finish… Only the weather could have been better but it’s after all London 😁☔

I thought when i turned on the tv this morning that they cannot possibly use the ascot landau’s… Nice to see that the Scottish State Coach and the Glass Coach with their big windows was used instead….. But Lady Louise and Sir Tim Laurence must have been drenched there in the barouche’s 🌧

Also nice to see Princess Anne taking over the beautiful ”Noble” this year when The King did not go on horseback

I'd love to see the whole extended family on the balcony again. It seems a shame that everyone else has to be left out because of Andrew, if that's the reason. Nice to see Lady Gabriella out and about.

I agree. Even in the case of HRH The Duke of York, he has done several Christmas walkabouts with the extended family, last year even with Sarah, Duchess of York, who isn't even official part of the family anymore. And HRH Princess Beatrice has stepped up and helped the working members of the royal family a lot this year.

I like that the Lady Louise was there. Hopefully next year we can see a balcony with TM The King and Queen along with the Wales, York, Edinburgh, Princess Royal, Gloucester, and Kent families.

Well she will be pushed from it next year and everyone will be, finally, happy i guess ...

Unless that sort of a mid-term plan.

I could see her take over some duties, especially when it comes to things related to her age. Neither her parents nor her uncle or aunt are getting younger.

Otherwise the BRF will have a pretty big age-gap in the current young adults generation.

Her cousins are still at least ten years away to take up duties.

I saw the event of TV today with comments of "experts", who have moderated any royal events for years and know what they are talking about. They mentioned again and again that the King has reduced the appearance on the balcony to "working royals". And I noticed that Edward and Sophie were in the front, because they have taken up a lot of work in the last years. That's why I believe that Louise as their daughter was included, maybe she wanted to be part of it and Charles wouldn't have said no to this. She is such a lovely young woman. Her brother James wasn't there, he seems to be shy and not keen to attend official events.
I was very happy to see Catherine again, it shows she is feeling better. [.....]

That makes a lot of sense. In that regard, however, at least Peter and Zara and maybe their children should be involved as well due to HRH The Princess Royal’s steadfast commitment to the BRF for several decades. Same with TRH The Dukes of Gloucester and Kent, and HRH Princess Alexandra.

Ultimately, I think Lady Louise was there because she’s seen as one of the kids, similar to the Wales children and unlike her older cousins. I see no problem with her being there.

Nice picture of Lord and Lady Frederick. Its a bit pointless being all dressed up if it's behind the scenes now so I'm glad we got to see her outfit. The whole non balcony thing was kicked off by the Andrew and Harry debacles so thanks very much both!!!!

100% agree, Louise is still seen as one of the kids for now. Its also worth pointing out, logistically her being part of the procession made no difference- Sophie, Edward Kent, Tim, The Gloucesters wouldn’t have fitted in one carriage anyway so two would have always been needed. Thus both had spare seats of which Louise took one. I suspect that played a part- there was room for her so making her go to and from the parade in a bus with the other wider family while her mother rode by carriage with two spare seats would be odd.
I honestly think once she had a job and is working she won’t feel the need to attend, for now she does because she is likely still living with mum and dad and they are going.

I agree with other posters that this event has lost some of its interest now that the same small group appears each year.

I used to enjoy seeing all the youngsters on the balcony and the family interactions. It would be nice to include the King’s nieces and nephews with their own families. I don’t think they need to include the extended Gloucester or Kent families but some more people would be nice!

A lot of the family do go every year. I think there is a family lunch afterwards or whatever. Balcony is a bit boring now. I was more interested in the soldiers today.

I have a theory about Lady Louise being there on the balcony and the carriage; I suspect she might have been earmarked to go in the carriage with the Wales children in case Catherine was not well enough, but when the day before it was announced that Catherine would go, then Louise got to go with her mother instead. Just a thought...

Really enjoyed watching TTC! The masterful horsemanship and the music is amazing, compliments to everyone involved. I especially enjoyed seeing the interactions between the members of the Royal Family, particularly Catherine and Charles chatting on the balcony. Its clear there is a strong and loving bond there. @EllieCat, I thought the same as you, that Lady Louise may have been there in case Catherine couldn't travel with her children. In any case, I was glad to see her attend as she seems to be a delightful young lady. Was I imagining things or did Camilla tell Charles in typically concerned wifey way that he needed to go back inside?! It reminded me of my grandmother clucking over my grandfather when he was recovering from a serious illness - "George, come inside now, you'll catch a cold with this rain...."!! :giggle:

Charlotte is very much the child in charge.

Charles looked tired at the end and he has a busy week ahead. He needs to take things easy as well so time for Camilla to plan a week away in Scotland for him I think, after Garter and Ascot.

Lady Louise appearance not a surprise as she is still in full-time education.

James non-appearance also not a surprise with exams in full-swing for youngsters his age.

It is disappointing that Charles view of 'family' is so publicly different to his mother's with only 'working royals' allowed on the balcony. It makes the whole event somehow seem diminished and personally I doubt I will bother watching in future.

I am with you so much on this. I watched last year and realised that the balcony was going to be a cardboard cut out going forwards. When it was full of family it was joyful and spontaneous watching who was talking to who; the fashions and the funny antics of all the children there. I decided that in its current format I didn't care to watch anymore, and only watched this time because Kate was coming back after her illness.

It’s awesome that Catherine attended today. She was stunning and looking healthy, like old herself. And kids seemed so happy.
I can’t get what’s the problem with Louise being on the balcony 😮. She’s a daughter of the official and working family member.

Then in that case the children of the Princess Royal and of the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester and of Kent should have been on the balcony. They are all after all offspring of ‘official and working’ family members.

I had very similar thoughts about the Queen today. She seemed to be a bit pensive throughout the parade. I thought she only looked relaxed when they had returned to BP and were on the balcony. That is when I finally noticed her smiling and chatting with the Duchess of Edinburgh.

I believe that an exception is being made for Lady Louise who is still a university student. Her older cousins have long graduated and have established their own lives away from their parents' homes.

Speaking of Louise, there's a photo of her with her mother and the Duke of Kent taking shelter under the carriage cover as the rain poured down today. At least there was room for three to huddle under the cover!
