King Felipe, Queen Letizia and Family, General News, Part 2: September 2017 -

Has this tell all book been released yet?

I spoke to two Spanish journalists today, who tell me that the Spanish press is not giving any kind of credibility to this matter.
They also tell me that they think Jaime del Burgo is an unbalanced person.
Another important piece of information is that the Royal House is not expected to react to this matter.

fifty bucks said Letizia sent the selfie to her sister who sent to then husband Jaime del Burgo who sat on it untill this year

That Penafiel is behind this book is all we need to know; it does not have to be taken seriously. But what a curious story about her ex-brother-in-law. As for 'selfies professing love': the one shared in the article isn't exactly what would normally first come to mind :whistling:.

Letizia is rather unlucky with some members of her family ,her delightful aunt and now ex brother in law.

Not to forget her sister Erica who commited suicide!

That was a completely different tragic matter ,Letizia's aunt has publicly trashed the monarchy and her ex brother in law is selling a trashy tell all book.

And wasn't there a cousin too? Luckily nothing like these for other married-ins

I don't recall her cousin but her aunt was ferocious in her tweets and attacks.

Queen Margrethe is probably right in that theory that it is better for the consorts to be foreigners, there are usually fewer problems.

Unfortunately in Spain the gossip press business moves much more money than in other countries, so the temptation is greater. Juan Carlos maintained the loyalty of his family and his environment with many favors and financial aid... Letizia had to separate those who sought favors and could not help financially to keep them happy.

Lula, is that the motive behind this book? That the BIL wanted favors or money and Letizia didn't oblige? Shameful!

More than money, in this case I think we are dealing with a egocentric or narcissistic person, someone who gives a lot of importance to himself (and from what some journalists say that he is an unstable person, perhaps it is a deeper problem that he has). It is something that can be seen in any of the statements he has made or the letters he has written to the press, or in all his supposed business achievements or books that no one knows for sure are true. Since he did not get what he wanted from Letizia and was estranged from that circle of influences, he has sought revenge.

It was the cousin who wrote a book in 2013, the biggest 'revelation' was that Letizia had an abortion pre-Felipe and he published a lot of private photos from celebrating Christmas together, where we could see Felipe riding a children's bike, a gift for niece Carla.

It was the cousin who wrote a book in 2013

The book was signed by the cousin...whether he actually wrote it is another matter, he was a person who had no experience writing anything. He was a lawyer and had had several problems with clients, he would probably need the money.

Just as I don't think anyone believes that Peñafiel wrote this book alone at the age of 91.

According to two books, the first time JDB (who must be one of the few whom the cousin praises in his book) tried to leak his story to a journalist friend of his was a couple of weeks after that book was published.

The coincidence between what happened then and what has happened now is curious to say the least.:whistling:

In Germany the 'cheating on Felipe' story was headline on most news outlets but is this a big story in Spain? With all the stuff that has been written about Letizia, this is far too absurd to be even remotely credible.
So, everybody is wondering about the motivation of Jaime del Burgo to come forward at this time and with this 'headline'. I don't recall that he ever showed any sign of courting the press, he refused to speak to any of them and made some scenes when being with Telma.
I really wonder about the motivation of Telma when she decided to marry him.

Telma had had a very bad experience with the press, she became very overwhelmed, and I think that was sad for the family after Erika's death. When they got married, JDB wrote a couple of inflammatory letters criticizing the press, he presented himself as the one who was going to protect and save Telma from the press by taking her to live in New York and threatening lawsuits and lecturing everyone. I think that's probably how he attracted Telma so quickly.

People were left with the impression that he hated the press... but the curious thing is that later he gave interviews, talked to his journalist friends and surely leaked many stories. It is also curious that this has been the time of Telma's life where the press photographed her the most, even in distant places. Now I wonder if it wasn't him who warned the photographers.

The story in Spain is in X and in digital media, the traditional media has not talked about this topic, beyond some opinion columns that talk about it without talking about it (one tells the story of Comtesse de la Mott). Journalists he used in the past to spread rumors directly do not mention him, such as a newspaper director who has attacked the Crown on many occasions.

I think many are aware that he is not a trustworthy person, and they neither want to feed him nor put up with his attacks. The fact that he also links this story to a far-right political discourse against the King and the Government in the current situation in Spain also generates rejection.

But even in X, with the exception of the most radical far-right, there are many people who are in solidarity with the queen and see in the Jaimes' behavior an attack of sexist violence against a woman's privacy. And after the scandal in women's soccer, this issue is very delicate in Spain, the press knows that if they follow along and it is later shown that this man has tried to harass or intimidate the queen in other ways, theirprestige would end up very damaged.

Penafiel is like living poison to the royal family. I remember he was obsessed with King Juan Carlos back in the day and in the 1960s he used to travel with them overseas representing the press.

Around that time, when he was not getting access to the inner circle, he went on a hate campaign against Queen Sofia whom he blamed for everything under the sun. I think I recall, sorry if memory is vague, he wanted the Queen to either contact him or something to help him with a relative that ultimately took her life.

If you old timers like me recall the forum chats back then, when Letizia started dating Felipe, Penafiel went ballistic on TV trashing her for being the granddaughter of a taxi driver. Even stating Felipe should have married to a blue-blooded royal and not a Spanish commoner. His obsession with Queen Sofia became hatred, like sick, and he transferred that to Letizia and more recently to Leonor.

Sorry, but Penafiel's opinion and elitism is garbage to many of us Spaniards, he is like the senior version of UKs Scobie.

That is really interesting, it is good to have a bigger picture and historical background.

Interesting that you mention this. Eva Sannum would probably disagree.
You'll always have the discrimination because of the language (unless you are very talented, learning a new language as an adult will always be difficult) and even Sofia was known as 'La Griega' for a long time.
The tabloids will dig in the past anyway, and any non-noble adult woman like Letizia will have some 'skeletons' in the closet that will give fodder for media exploitation. The only advantage a foreigner will have is that the past is not at the doorstep and the relatives will live far, far away in most cases.

Well, there are also many nobles with closets full of "skeletons".

"Exiled Juan Carlos may have helped leak rumours of Spanish Queen’s ‘affair’ in revenge move"
https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2023/12/13/juan-carlos-helped-leak-queen-affair-rumours/

craziness

The story of Pilar Eyre... the female version of Peñafiel, another that invents more than informs. The international media are covering themselves in garbage with the worst royal gossip (Peñafiel and Eyre) and fake news websites.

Actually those who had interests around Juan Carlos did that... but 10 years ago to avoid his abdication. But even then they only launched dark rumors, because an unstable character and a bizarre story without evidence did not seem enough to them to commit professional "suicide"... and 10 years later those same journalists do not even mention the story.

This is really no coincidence, this book, the characters involved, the political moment... someone has wanted to rescue this topic with some objective and not a good one... and that is something that all people see. Maybe in the future it will be possible to know...

Penafiel is not only poison, he's the worst kid of classist. Everything in his world is about appearances without substance of any kind. He loved Juan Carlos and specially Sofia until his daughter had a problem with drugs, sought Sofia's help privately and didn't get it. From then on he hates everyone in the royal family but specially Letizia who he blames for not only having the pedigree to join the royal house but to change everything and everyone's mind. As if a commoner could do it. The man has had serious mental health issues for a long time but still sells the fact he worked for Hola years ago.

Why this book is hitting the selves? You really have to know Spanish politics to understand why Letizia is being targeted. Beside the fact that she's always been blamed for anything going wrong in the Borbon's family, she's also been viewed as the more progressive and in touch with mainstream Spain by the ultra right. When the political situation is seriously in the balance in Spain, trying to influence public opinion against her with yet another book is simply that.

As Lula mentioned, the majority of people in the street think this is a sexist attack on her privacy from her sisters' ex, who has dubious political connections, and didn't get the "support" he wanted from Letizia.
