Do you think Queen Silvia underwent plastic surgery?
Btw you're right, Queen Paola is still wonderful...She has perfect italian genes...

I agree with you ! Paola is very beautiful, even with the wrinkles!

Don't forget that Paola was a beauty as was Grace of Monaco when she was young. They were the 2 most beautiful european Princesses in the sixties..( she was not happy- now with her wrinkles she is! Life is strange.

How can I say...she has "matured" with the time...

Let's keep this thread on the topic of Current Events of the Belgian King and Queen, please!

In Brussels, near the Atomium, Queen Paola accompanied by Princess Astrid and Princess Claire of Belgium and by 4 grandchildren princesses Laetitia Maria and Louise and Princes Nicolas and Aymeric, attended a Cirque show Bouglione. Like every year, the circus calls time representation about a thousand underprivileged children, aided by Work of the Princess Paola Cribs which celebrates its 50th anniversary.

Viewing this photo’s I suddenly noticed that on the picture of her arrival [pic 1] Queen Paola wears not the same shoes as on the other ones.
I find nothing wrong with changing shoes.
The shoes she wears at a.o. the guided tour, are a tiny little bit solid perhaps, but very appropriate for the occasion, contrasted to the ones she wears at her arrival.
I just wonder what she found wrong with the second pair of shoes, Were they to “old lady” like?
Why she did not wear them at the arrival?

I think the Queen is right.
She was perfectly dressed when she arrived, when she was working in the garden (she likes that) she was wearing garden shoes.
One the first pic she looks great , but on pictures taken nearly, she looks her age and accept her age. Well done Your Majesty!

Yes, that makes sense maria_olivia. She wouldn't want to ruin nice shoes while digging in the dirt. It's a nice gray coat she's wearing.

King Albert hands out the Order of the Grand Cross of the Crown (free translation, btw)

video - Tia Hellebaut, who won a gold medal at the Olympics in Bejing, doesn't quite know what she is receiving.
video - Kim Gevaert and Sister Jeanne Devos also receive the order. Both Kim and Tia brought their babies (and husbands?)along.

King Albert's Christmas message in Dutch and French (videos)

Also the written texts: Dutch and French

The King started by saying how his thoughts go out to those who suffer from the economic crisis. However, he also emphasised the country had a lot of positive things to remember about this year. He mentioned the appointment of Herman Van Rompuy as European President and the canonisation of Father Damien. He also quoted President Obama on that canonisation and emphasised how Father Damien is an example of solidarity which exeeds the boundaries of the different language communities.
Then he talked about the importance of the Lisbon Treaty: however diffcult it was to get the Treaty accepted by the entire Union, in the end all difficulties were conquered. He stated that Europe should be an example to Belgium: within the little country the opinions may diverge greatly, but in the end the difficulties should be conquered just as well.

The message ended with a merry christmas and a happy new year in name of himself, the Queen and the entire Royal family.
