March 12 – Announcement of the 2024 Polar Music Prize Laureates
May 21 – Polar Music Prize Ceremony
Polar Music Prize

Nile Rodgers, award-winning songwriter, composer, producer, arranger, guitarist and co-founder of CHIC, and Esa-Pekka Salonen, esteemed conductor and composer, are announced today as recipients of the 2024 Polar Music Prize. The ceremony will take place on Tuesday 21 May in Stockholm at the Grand Hôtel.

As a Finn, I'm so happy that Esa-Pekka Salonen gets this prestigious prize.

The King, Queen, Victoria, Carl Philip and Sofia have long been listed at court calendar to attend the Polar Music Prize award ceremony.
Margareta Thorgren today to Svensk Damtidning:
- Unfortunately, Prince Daniel doesn't have the opportunity to participate in this year's Polar Music Prize. The reason is a schedule conflict with another assignment, which the court will update in the calendar shortly.

Daniel didn't attend last year either, he attended at the same time the Swedish Championships in Young Entrepreneurship and delivered Svenska Dagbladet's Affärsbragd.

The History of Polar Music Prize

The Prize Ceremony and Banquet tomorrow:
Peg Parnevik, Moonica Mac, Augustine, Janice, Kayo, Gladys del Pilar and Sharon Dyall will all perform tributes to Nile Rodgers’ long career as a songwriter and producer. Eva Dahlgren and Markus Maskuniitty will both perform for Esa-Pekka Salonen, as well as an octet with musicians from the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra and the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra conducted by Emilia Hoving, one of Finland’s most acclaimed young conductors of today. Students from the Ingesund School of Music University of Karlstad and dancers from Base23 choreographed by Vera Prada will also perform during the evening, together with the Polar Music Prize band, led by Stefan Olsson.

The King, the Queen, Victoria, Carl Philip and Sofia + princess Christina and Tord Magnuson attend the Polar Music Prize award ceremony and banquet.

The Royal Court:

As a Finn it was great to see fantastic Esa-Pekka Salonen get the Polar Music Prize from the King. And our president Alexander Stubb's video greeting was a wonderful surprise for Esa-Pekka.

Eva Dahlgren sang at the banquet a beautiful song she recorded with Esa-Pekka Salonen. Salonen seemed to be very moved hearing his good friend singing.
Moonica Mac sang David Bowie's "Lets dance", produced by Nile Rodgers

It was a pity they didn't show the banquet live at Polar Music's Youtube channel as in previous years.
