Lovely, lovely event. These kids are amazing.

I’m always amazed by how natural both of them are with kids.

I'm putting this here since it's somewhat related to the WellChild Awards. One of winners of the awards was barred from her A-levels because she's missed so many days of school during the year due to her health issues (she's had to take her exam in the hospital rather than at school, as well). After this received attention, the school has decided to reverse their decision. This is one of those great stories where inspirational stories receiving additional attention due to royal association and making a change for the better and opening a conversation on an issue that's been long overlooked. Children with disabilities often need special accommodation to complete their education. However, this should not serve as a reason they aren't given the opportunity to reach their fullest potential. Certain accommodations should be made to fit their needs, and those changes require awareness.

Evie truly is inspirational. Her story is heartwarming and I hope the school is sincere in doing all it can to assist her in getting her A levels. I'm sure the WellChild connection helped in changing the minds of those at the school. Great story!

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex Arrival at the WellChild Awards-

Harry’s Emotional Speech-

Thanks, Dman. Yes, Harry becoming a parent was obviously an incredibly important event in his life, and that was reflected in his speech, where he was overcome for a moment or two.

The WellChild charity has always been important to Harry and now to Meghan of course. Meeting these brave children and their families each year must be an overwhelmingly moving experience.

WellChild is one of my favorite royal events each year. Harry's devotion to the cause is lovely and Meghan's inclusion has been so great.

Harry's heart is always in his work and the emotion is very real here.

Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Current Events 1: May 2018 -

Prince Harry’s emotional breakdown seems to reflect a new habit of wearing his “heart” on his sleeve but this is wearing a little thin for stiff upper lip Britons. Kevin Maguire of the Mirror suggested on ITV Good Morning Britain that his speech histrionics was “scripted” and other commentators see the overkill in his celebrity approach to public appearances:

Its my opinion that Harry has *always* shown his emotions when he feels them. With children. With reuniting with Daphne Dunne in Australia. With his gestures towards his wife and child. When he gives speeches at the Invictus Games.

With Harry it is what you see is what you get. He's not as reserved as the proverbial Briton with the "stiff upper lip" but to me, that's a stereotype and I like Harry exactly the way he is. ?

Sometimes I think people who comment on Prince Harry really don’t know the guy. Harry has always been very sensitive to other people’s challenges and difficulties. You can’t help but be moved by all those kids and now that Harry is a father, he feel even more emotional connected with his feelings.

There’s no celebrity approach to what this couple are doing in their appearance.

So is arch Republican Kevin Maguire (who is the associate editor of a paper currently being sued by Harry ) now the go to person for TV on Royal issues ? He was on Jeremy Vine on Friday calling for a Republic as well.

I watched the ceremony LIVE and I chocked up when Harry chocked up in his speech -

I love this moving awards ceremony. The children and their families are faced with so many physical challenges, but they still able to go on and do amazing things.

I love how openly passionate Harry is about causes he cares about. It's always great to see him supporting WellChild.

At the WellChild Awards, Harry and Meghan spoke to a little girl with red hair, and her mother. They asked M&H whether Archie has ginger hair and Harry said, "Yes, definitely... you can see it in his eyebrows."

A video clip of the Sussexes arriving and talking with the children and their parents -- we can see M&H with the little girl with red hair and her mother toward the end of this clip at 3:11:

Full video below of Harry breaking down during his speech (at 2:14), discussing how he and Meghan were the only ones who knew they were expecting a child during the previous year's WellChild Awards ceremony:

Of all the people in the British Royal Family, and I have followed this family for a long long time, Henry is the last person in it to have suddenly developed a "new habit" of wearing his heart on his sleeve. I do not know, sans maybe Zara Tindall, a more emotionally open person in that family.

I also don't know why people referring to it as having their heart on their sleeve, when frankly all it truly is is showing emotion. Which isn't a crime, and in men should happen more often frankly.

The British 'stiff upper lip" is just a myth based on what I have seen from the media (and the comments of many in the article posts)...Britons as just as emotional as the rest of the world, especially when being called on their own actions.

Yeah no, that stiff upper lip very much does exist. It’s part of the problem why people struggle to talk about issues, they’ve been taught to keep it in. Keep Calm and Carry On.

By breaking down while talking about his own experiences as a new father, he ‘colonised’ the event — he made it about him, rather than the people in the audience.
Suddenly, the spotlight swung away from them and their day-to-day struggles to a man — a member of the Royal Family, no less — who was essentially shedding tears about his own worries.
Surely he could see that his anxieties pale into insignificance when compared with those of the families he was there to meet?

He showed empathy and awareness. He felt it before, but he admitted it becomes more acute when you’re sharing the same worries and fears as the brave children and families present. I don’t see a problem with his speech or tears, and I have to wonder about those who constantly nitpick and judge others who do.

This is just beyond disturbing at this point...

Court Circular 15th October:
Buckingham Palace

The Duke of Sussex, Patron, WellChild, and The Duchess of Sussex this evening attended a Reception and Awards Ceremony at the Royal Lancaster Hotel, Lancaster Terrace, London W2, and were received by Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Greater London (Sir Kenneth Olisa).

Prince Harry is the perfect patron for the WellChild charity. He is wonderful and compassionate with the children and their caregivers. The WellChild Awards is one of my favourite events, so inspirational. I’m glad that Harry has an equally caring wife to give attention to this important charity and the precious people it supports.

It’s a shame that some people would get unnecessarily worked up over a man showing care and emotion while championing children & their caregivers as they face so many health challenges. How very unprofessional for a psychiatrist to write a disgusting article, in a tabloid, perpetuating stigmas about mental health. Any medical professional worth their license & with basic assessment skills should know that there is nothing positive to be gained by belittling someone rightfully expressing themselves.

Yes because the DM is so unbias and has the best experts

It's called Empathy, people should try it. Being a royal does not exempt a person from feeling empathy. Nor such worries either.

Working with sick kids every day, you learn quickly money means nothing. You may not have to worry about the bills, but thats only one percent of the fear. Watching your child sick, perhaps dying, is a nightmare for any parent rich or poor, royal or commoner. Heaven forbid you are ever in that place. Rich parents have the same fears, the same tears and the same prayers when they sit next to their child's bed.

Harry liked to talk about mental health... And then this nervous breakdown at a gala for not so well being kids. For me this is disturbing.

A nervous breakdown? Oh you mean the two minutes or so when Harry teared up, about parenthood, in the middle of a speech. At an event at which, as he does every year, he moved around the room speaking to parents, having little jokes with some of the children. Doing what he does each year at this award ceremony as Patron of one of his favourite charities. Yes, that's really having a nervous breakdown!

Harry, thankfully is not afraid to show empathy. No matter one’s circumstances, the ability to understand & share feelings is a good & priceless thing.
