There are 3 of them: CP Haakon is a godson, too!

Is she a godmother to both Haakon and Märtha Louise?. I know she is is to Märtha bgecause that is why she attended her Wedding as only reigning Monarch.

She is not a godmother to Martha Louise, only to Haakon.

Oh yes that is true of course. She was not at his christening but certainly is a godmother to him indeed. Her grandfather, the King of Sweden, died before the christening and she had to annul her engagement in Oslo.

But what was the reason she attended her Wedding then?

I would imagine as a family friend. You don’t have to be a godparent to attend a wedding!

Maybe,. I only remeber that at that Wedding it was said that only royals from the same group of age and rank of Märtha Louise where invtied. Otherwise the King and Queen of Sweden would probably also have been there as the are also Familyfriends. And therefore i had in mind that Margrethe attended as her godmother but was obviosuly wrong.

A trip down Memory Lane with photos from the first years of QMII's reign.

PH is dressed for the male fashion thread here, a pity it isn't in colors.

QMII with PM Anker Jørgensen, with whom she developed a good relationship, they were both new in the job around the same time.

Right for the male fashion thread! Only Prince Phillip and Prince Charles routinely dress so elaborately.

And wouldn't you know, yet another interview with QMII - this time turned into a book. It's about QMII and the Royal Theater, where QMII is a frequent guest.

One of the advantages of being a member of the DRF, and especially the Monarch, is that she can take advantage of the royal box whenever she feels like it - and that's often!
She often watch a performance several times, in order to get all the details.

She's not bothered by sitting up there in the royal box:
"I certainly consider myself as being a part of the audience, a hundred percent actually, why, what else? I have always been sitting up there in the swallowsnest, so for me it's perfectly normal, that's how it is. There is the whole venue, which you sense very clearly. I have never felt that I was isolated up there in any way. And I have always stuck to... well, when you have that seat, you have that seat. So you don't go out and take a seat from someone else."

It is very clear, when QMII enjoys a performance: She chew on her tongue.
"My mother claimed that my sisters and I also did it. So there she sat ans looked at the four of us in a row chewing. I still do it, when the music gets really nice, then I can't help sitting chewing on the tongue."

The author Nina Parly based this book on ten interviews with a very enthusiastic QMII over a period of four years.

At some point QMII got up and demonstrated how to walk in a long gown on stage.
"You have to move in a certain way." QMII walked around like she was having a train behind her.
The secret is to not take too long steps.
"I can do that by accident sometimes, because I belong to those who walk with long strides, but if you walk in a big dress, then you can't waddle!"
Another secret is to move the hips, so get a good pull on the dress and train.
"I'm so old and senile that I think it's great when there are costumes on stage. And especially in the plays that are full of gesticulations in language and in the plot and things like that. You can't do that sort of things in jeans, right?"

Sometimes she gets a little annoyed at the audience getting up all the time.
"Well, I think it's turned inflation. It's annoying. It should be that - now! Now we simply can't sit down anymore, now we get up! But just getting up, because you clap. that I don't think you should."

It is old tradition that the audience stand up when QMII enters the royal box though and that she doesn't mind:
"It's actually festive, that it is."

Muhler, tusend tak for this lovely bit of Margrethe-ology! There, I have invented a new word to describe the anecdotes surrounding your wonderful Queen. I so wish you would again post the link to the DR program on her work as a scenographer/artist; I was able to watch it, although DR knows of course that I am not in Denmark. However I was distracted today as it is a very sad day in Canada. When my computer froze, I lost the link and would so like to finish the film!:flowers:

You are welcome. ?

And your modest request is easily fulfilled.
Here you go: https://www.dr.dk/drtv/program/dronningen-holder-frikvarter_179311

And for further docus about QMII, they are legio!
Go here: https://www.dr.dk/drtv/

Try type "dronning" in the field next to the looking glass.

For additional searches I suggest: "kongelig" "kronprinsesse" "Kronprins" "Prins Joachim" "Kongehuset" "Royalt"

Happy viewing.?
You'll also find quite a few docus about the other Nordic RFs using these words. A well as an excellent docu in two parts about Queen Victoria and Prince Alberts wedding.

- And to avoid the connection breaking down, allow me to suggest this app: Video DownloadHelper - It'll eat them all. But it's a bit slow. And it can't handle subtitles.

Among the congratulations the Queen received for her birhday were both pictures, videos and drawings, and this post shows a small sample of the many creative and surprising greetings.⁣

An event about the 80th Birthday of the Queen:

"A morning filled with surprises, song and celebration is in store on 16 June 2020 when Her Majesty The Queen receives Happy 80th Birthday wishes from children and school classes from the country’s municipalities at Christiansborg Palace."

"Two handmade ashtray garden benches were today handed to H.M. The Queen in Fredensborg Castle Garden. The benches are the gift of Fredensborg Municipality on the occasion of the Majesty's 80th birthday.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣

The garden benches are manufactured locally in Fredensborg by carpenter master Aage Andersen and will in future be located at Horsedammen in the Reserved Garden in Fredensborg Palace Garden, which is open to the public in July and early August."

Thank you, Eya. :flowers:

And forgive me for chuckling at your post.

Not ashtray - but benches made from the ash tree.

- It would have been sublime humor to present her with benches in the form of ashtrays, but I'm not sure, QMII would have appreciated the joke.

What if were not a bench referencing her smoking, but simply having some ashtrays attached for her convenience? That was my first thought, anyway.

However, I think the Queen would appreciate it if it was really an ashtray:)

And of course I forgive you, you are one of my favorite people here :flowers:

I hope Ms. Muhler doesn't read this.:lol::lol:

"On Tuesday, the exhibition opens "The Queen's Faces", which through a series of portraits illustrate the Queen's life, work and special interests over eight decades. The exhibition was created on the occasion of Her Majesty's 80th birthday earlier this year and also includes a new portrait of the Queen performed by artist Niels Strøbek.⁣ ⁣"

Weeeell, I wouldn't want a replica of any of these four paintings hanging anywhere else put the garden shed, even if they were presented to me for free.

Technically they are bland and artistically forgettable.

I would prefer a drawing made by a child, at least they are funny and unpretentious.

Thank you Muhler for qualifying The Ash Tree. Because I was a little confused looking for an ashtray.
Anyway Eya a very nice link and the garden bench looks pretty as a picture with all the blooming flowers around it. ?

I love it that Queen Margrethe pairs accessibility with great royal mise-en-scene.

Sadly Christiansborg had to be rebuild after a fire. The current situation of Christiansborg Palace is no older than 1928 (92 years old) and it was build in a neo-style. The other royal Danish palaces are architecturally and historically more real and pure.
