Eleanor of England married Alfonso VIII of Castile in 1170 when she was 10 years old and received as part of her dowry the Castles of castles of Burgos and Castrojeriz , Amaya , Avia, Saldaña , Monzón de Campos ,Carrión de los Condes , Dueñas , Tariego de Cerrato , Cabezón, Medina del Campo , Astudillo , Aguilar and Villaescusa.
The queen also founded the Cistercian Las Huelgas Monastery in Burgos,both Eleanor and her husband were later buried here.

The queen had not fully recovered following the birth of her last child,the Infanta Maria in February 1580 and fell and died of influenza.
The queen was just 30 years old!

Francis Phoebus of Navarre was king of Navarre for a brief period and his mother ,Madeleine de France acted as Regent.
The King also held domains in France and was Count of Foix and Bigorre as well as Viscount of Marsan and Bearn.
