Danish State Visit to Sweden: May 6 - 7, 2024

If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
The Swedish Armed Forces at its website:
The Danish state visit begins with ceremonial rowing with HM Barge Vasaorden. The rowing is over in half an hour, but for the 46th rowing company, preparations have been going on since March.
The 46th Rowing Company, which is a temporary company within The 4th Naval Warfare Flotilla, is commanded by Captain Michael Langhard.
- It is a great honor and a joy that rowing with Vasaorden is so much wanted by the Royal House. It is the highest grade to be able to do it again and again, says Captain Michael Langhard, commander of the Vasa Order.
The preparation time has been six weeks: Three with basic rowing and exercise training in a whaleboat and three weeks in Vasaorden.

Dannebrog has stopped her journey to Stockholm. It seems like she is mooring south of Swedish island of Muskö, east of the town Nynäshamn. Muskö is home to one of the biggest naval bases in Sweden and Nynäshamn with ferry traffic to Gotland, Gdansk and the Baltics.

I assume the King and Queen will be taken from Nynäshamn to Dannebrog later today for the last leg into central Stockholm

Thanks for this Kingen.
All the vessel tracking websites now have the Royal ship back out at sea … leaving at 6.41pm local time and making 7 knots.
She seems to be heading away from the coast.
Maybe the couple are onboard and she needs to “waste” some time overnight and amble a bit before turning back towards land.
Last year I followed “Miss Silver” a bit around the Med when Chris Meehan and Michaela Ward had Mary and Frederik with them, but then they turned off their AIS and that was that!
Being an official vessel on a promotional voyage I don’t expect that will happen with Dannebrog.
Interesting she is classed as a military ship.
Any locals wanting to sail into Stockholm with her will know when and where to join her.

Both Marine Traffic and Vessel Finder now have Dannebrog turned and heading towards the Swedish Coast … at 4.30am local time.
Maybe it will pull in somewhere for the couple if they haven’t been aboard overnight.

Given the many islands in the Stockholm archipelago I assume it is easier and quicker to go further away from mainland Sweden and round the southern archipelago heading for the main route to central Stockholm.

Dannebrog has been escorted by a vessel from the Swedish Police since leaving Nynäshamn

Thanks Kingen … not surprised they have a police vessel escort.
When the family has been staying on boats here in Sydney there is always a police vessel nearby, though I think this gives away their location more than if they were on their own. (To photographers I mean.)
Plenty of flash vessels about at times, but only Royalty … or perhaps a US President, but we don’t get them here much … gets a police escort.
All the Internationally famous have to make do by themselves. But, unless they are on their own well-known boat, they have more anonymity.
Hope you have good weather there.

The 4th Naval Warfare Flotilla published a video from the rehearsals with Vasaorden

The divers of the 4th Naval Warfare Flotilla search the mooring site at Skeppsbron in Stockholm.
- We search so that the mooring location looks good even underwater. The divers check that there are no foreign objects that could pose a safety threat for the vessel to moor, says Fredrik, dive leader.

No Orders for Carl Philip and Sofia?

It will be nice to see this evening the King wearing the Chain of the Seraphim Order.
Great arrival and no rain.

Seems like they are limiting the Order of the Elephant to Monarch + Spouse and Heir + Spouse for foreign royals.

I haven’t seen them use the Order of Dannebrog to decorate foreign royals for a very long time…

Loved the hugs from Daniel and Victoria to Frederik and Mary. There's such a warm relationship between all of them. It's good to see.
I haven't had time to see any images yet. Did CP Victoria curtsy to the new King and Queen of Denmark?

It looks a little bit cold though for a spring day.

Yes, she did, see here:

Today began the first state visit from Denmark since 1985. Then the Danish guests were greeted with waving flags by the then 8-year-old Crown Princess, together with her siblings Prince Carl Philip and Princess Madeleine. Today it was Princess Estelle and Prince Oscar who welcomed their godparents, Denmark's new royal couple, to Stockholm.

The Royal Couples visited the Royal Institute of Technology and met Swedish astronauts Christer Fuglesang and Marcus Wandt as well as the Danish astronaut Andreas Mogensen.

Fashion designer Christer Lindarw tells to Svensk Damtidning about Victoria's outfit:
- But I was a little nervous, she was still going to go with the royal barge and it was windy and she was going to board and disembark in her high heels and her long tight skirt... But everything just went so well!

More photos:

After lunch, the King Frederik X and Queen Mary visited Sweden's Riksdag and participated in a meeting with Riksdag spokesman Andreas Norlén.
Sweden's Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson subsequently received Their Majesties in the Rosenbad building, which houses the Prime Minister's Office.

I like that the DRF's Instagram included a photo of the little elephant Daniel will now wear; it has Frederik's monogram on it. I hadn't thought that it might. Does that mean the one Frederik and Mary wear has Margrethe's monogram? When did Carl Gustaf receive his?

King Carl Gustaf got it in January 1965 and queen Silvia in September 1985.

Day 1 from the DRF

what a great start to the two day visit, busy but very nice. The arrival on the ships is so wonderful.
Apparently Mary said a few words in Swedish

Speech by Frederik

Frederik and Mary, might be nervous but they are a strong team

Frederik and Mary for the gala tonight, leaving the Dannebrog

the eyes are on Mary, but wow Frederik just rocks this uniform. and disembarking the royal ship just adds to the look

That's a very jaunty hat. LOL. I don't know many men aside from Fred who could pull it off.

God, I just love those two. So stinkin' cute. It's always the little things, like how he held out his arm for her when she stepped off the Vasaorden earlier this morning.

SVT's live broadcast from the arrivals to the dinner starts at 19.15. They show also the speeches.

Both look stunning! I Believe Mary has worked her re-work magic (along with the designer) and reworked the gold dress she already reworked with black lace for QMII's jubilee gala in 2022. I believe that is the skirt of the that dress with a stunning new top portion. And I am not surprised she wore the ruby set in Sweden. It is so intrinsically associated with Queen Ingrid that it makes perfect sense to wear it for the state dinner.

I can't resists posting to this one. Hope I'm not off topic again...
- The hat King Frederik is wearing stems back to the last half of the Napoleonic wars, where the naval officers stopped using the tricorne hat and switched to one having so to speak two corners only. Officers up to captains wore a hat like this with the broad side facing forward. While admirals and similar demi-gods instead soon began to wear such a hat length wise, like King Frederik.
The purpose was of course to distinguish admirals from mere mortals and also to for signals officers/midshipmen relaying messages to quickly spot the admiral on a very crowded quarterdeck often obscured a lot by smoke from the cannons.
Unfortunately it also made them easy to spot for marksmen in the masts of enemy ships. - With the accuracy of muzzle-loaders at the time, combined with a ship recoiling from gunfire and the movement of the sea, it meant that it was positively dangerous to stand anywhere near an admiral.
It was also around this time that the hair fashion switched from men (especially officers) having long hair tied in a whip along the back of their necks. To having short hair.

Thank you Muhler, it's this type of information that makes this forum great!
If we can post info on the dresses, I love the info on the uniforms.
The profile view of Frederik wearing this hat just looks so regal.

Thank you Muhler. You always provide such valuable insight. It adds to the optics and provides important context that just enriches the experience of watching these events! Frederik always rocks his uniforms and this one is no different. Yes, the ladies always garner the largest portion of attention given the bling and gowns, but we should not just pass over the gentleman looking so dashing in these military uniforms that carry also such historical gravitas!

Queen Mary looks terrific, as always. But I must confess I´m not impressed of her wearing this particular tiara we have seen so often wearing as a Crown Princess. For her first royal state visit abroad to europe´s oldest reigning monarch, I expected - and hoped - for one of the "Queen of Denmark" tiaras, like the pearl-drop one...!

The Ruby Parure was worn by Queen Ingrid when she was queen, both before and after her husband's death. It's not meant for Crown Princesses only. They're Frederik's property, as his grandmother willed them to him, and he gave them to Mary to wear. So, they're as much the queen's jewels as anything else Mary has access to now.
