Nobel Laureate tried to persuade the king to stop hunting
What do you do if you get the king to the table?
Olga Tokarczuk, Nobel laureate in literature, took the opportunity to question one of the majesty's greatest interests.
- At one point during the conversation, I tried to persuade the king to stop hunting, she says to the Polish news site Onet.
- I had no idea what you were talking to a king about, but it went very easily, says Olga Tokarczuk, the 2018 prize-winner in literature, to the Polish news site Onet.
With the king on his right, Tokarczuk took hier seat at the Table of Honour during yesterday's Nobel Banquet.
Afterwards, she describes her table neighbor as "very nice, intelligent and warm to talk to". According to Onet, among other things, they talked about one of the king's greatest interests.
- One time during the conversation I tried to persuade the king to stop hunting, but I'm not sure I succeeded. Swedes have a great tradition of hunting - that you have to control nature, because otherwise it runs crazy, says Tokarczuk, to the news site.
The Polish author also had a lot to talk to another Swedish royal during dinner.
- I also talked a lot with Prince Daniel on my left, we even promised that we would talk on later, Tokarczuk says.
She has previously stated that she will use her prize money to build a foundation, which will, among other things, investigate animal rights issues.

Victoria's clothing selection: Sara Danius's iconic bow blouse
Crown Princess Victoria arrives at the Nobel Dinner at the Palace in Stockholm wearing a red long dress with a bow blouse in the same color.
Something that can be seen as a tribute to Sara Danius, the former permanent secretary of the Swedish Academy who passed away in October.
In November 2017, in conjunction with the metoo, the Swedish actors gathered behind the call #Super silence to read testimony about abuse.
Among the audience at the Södra Teatern in Stockholm were Queen Silvia and Crown Princess Victoria.
- It's a very important campaign, Victoria said at the time.
At the same time, the blouse showed Sara Danius's genius and taste from being boring and old-fashioned to a symbol of women's struggle and change.
The Nordic Museum in Stockholm even exhibited Sara Danius' self-designed bow blouse until December 1 to honor the professor, author and literary critic. She passed away on October 12 at the age of 57.
During Wednesday's traditional Nobel dinner at the Palace in Stockholm, the crown princess wore a long dress that was topped off with a bow blouse - both dress and blouse in red.
The choice of clothing can be seen as a tribute to Sara Danius.
When Expressen talks to Margareta Thorgren, the head of information at the court, she says:
- At all events, the royal family takes aim and message into account. Even clothing choices can be a part of communication.

Expressen's fashion expert on the clothes at Nobel Dinner: "Two fives"
On Wednesday evening, the king gave a traditional dinner for this year's Nobel Laureates.
The evening began with the royal family having a smaller reception in Prince Bertil's apartment for the prize winners and their respective.
Then the royal family and Nobel laureates marched into the banquet hall. In the Palace Ballroom, the White Sea, they greeted other invited guests representing the Riksdag, government, diplomatic corps, academies, research and science and the Nobel Foundation.
- A very well thought out clothing choice with regard to the bow blouse, which is a clear tribute to Sara Danius, says Expressen's fashion expert Emma Danielsson about Crown Princess Victoria's clothing choice.
Crown Princess Victoria
Points: 5
Wow! After wearing a dramatic dress at the Nobel party, Victoria continues to impress with yet another bold clothing choice that is just right in time. Here she reuses a red skirt and matches with a top signed Pär Engsheden. Both the volume in the sleeves, which is a strong trend right now, and the pink accessories show what trend look she has. It is also a very thoughtful choice of clothes with regard to the tie blouse which is a clear tribute to Sara Danius, which is fantastic to see.
Prince Daniel
Points: 5
Prince Daniel is as handsome as ever! The jacket has a good fit, the pants the right length, and even the small details sit where they should, such as the hand knotted bow, for example. He really knows the art of dressing exemplarily on solemn occasions.
Queen Silvia
Points: 4
The queen fits incredibly well in bright colors, and this blue shade is also a trend color this coming spring. The dress may not be as pompous as Victoria's, but the lovely color combined with the beautiful diadem and the sparkling necklace gives an elegant and glamorous feel.
King Carl Gustaf
Points: 3
The jacket sits very nicely over the shoulders and the pants are quite wide. However, they are a few inches too long at the bottom which makes them quite puffy over the shoes, as well as the handkerchief protruding too far and colliding with his medals. But otherwise he looks really handsome and well dressed.
Princess Madeleine
Points: 4
Madeleine has chosen a romantic and elegant creation created by Ida Sjöstedt, and if there is someone who both likes and dresses well in the romantic look then it is Madeleine. The style feels wonderfully light and springy in the prevailing winter darkness and the soft hair set will be the perfect complement to this type of dress.
Princess Sofia
Points: 4
Although Sofia's dress has long sleeves, it is strikingly similar to Madeleine's bright dress, which is also embellished by floral applications. They have even chosen the same braided bags from Bottega Veneta. However, it is impossible to decide who wins the style match because they both look very beautiful in their romantic creations!
Prince Carl Philip
Points: 4
Carl Philip usually earns high marks for his impeccable style and this time is no exception. The only thing that pulls down the grade from the full pot is that the jacket looks slightly short, which makes the white vest stick a little too far. But the impression overall is that he looks incredibly handsome.
