Kate's final patronage visit: Kate set for hospice’s grand opening

Suffolk: Kate set for hospice

I'm really looking forward to following this event. Catherine is wonderful when it comes to interacting with little ones and their families. I have no doubt that her first public address will be fantastic. Break a leg, Your Highness :D!

Oh, let's just get our tissues ready now....;)

I'll be sure to stock up on a bunch. I usually tear up when I see Catherine interacting with children, but this particular visit will be more emotional for everyone involved.

Some info on why she wanted to give her first speech at this particular appearance

I'm glad she's going this route. When one's passionate about something, one has more confidence and poise during the speech. I think she'll do fabulously.

Makes perfect sense! Cannot wait! Catherine brings sunshine into every room she enters, to every person she meets.... I am sure she will be fantastic! The waves of joy will be enormous! Like I say, we'll need tissues, I am sure!;)

You said it :D! I'm really looking forward to this appearance, especially her interactions with little ones and their families.

Can't wait to hear her speech coming up. I bet William is so proud of her. I would suppose he sees what she has been doing or has reports given to him on how things are going, you think?

I agree with you. He is, no doubt very, very proud of his wife. I'm going to venture and say that he probably gets some updates from his staff, and Catherine herself. I'd imagine they chat via phone or Skype, and she fills him in on her doings. Either way, it's lovely that he's able to follow her progress.

Since I live where Kate is giving her first speech, I might be able to get a glimpse of her. :flowers:

If you do, please share your experience with the rest of us. I love getting first-hand accounts of things like this.

I try my best! I googled the hospice its only a few streets away. :flowers:

This is the big one for Kate! I can imagine how she's relentlessly practicing and fine-tuning that speech.

Oh, I'm sure! I can only imagine the nervousness she's experiencing at the moment. Public speaking is not easy, and I bet the pressure is that much stronger because of who she is, and her immense popularity (I do hope that people don't put her on too high of a pedestal, because if Heavens forbid, she'll slip, it'll be all over the news, and the disappointing and snide comments about her incompetence will flow like wine). I'm rooting for her, and wish her the best.

I believe tomorrow is her engagement with the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall. I'm looking forward to following that one as well.

That is very fortunate indeed. I hope you're successful and get a glimpse and a listen.

Kate must indeed be very nervous and exited now; first public speech is a daunting prospect even if there is a small audience. But to have to speak knowing that so many camera lenses are directed against you - that must be even harder.
Hopefully, she will be able to overcome her nervousness.

I somehow feel she'll do fine with her usual poise and confidence.

Does anyone know if she took speech class in university?

I'd have to cancel. I hate public speaking and I only had to do it in front of a small class in college or on job interviews. I can only imagine how scared Kate is. But I recall when she stumbled a little when she was walking into the church on her wedding day and how she didn't let it put a crack in her poise and confidence.

Most people learn good speaking skills at university, with or without speech classes, especially if they major in fine arts or humanities. She'll do fine.

Naturally, if one is phobic about public speaking, it's different - but Kate seems fine. It's just the same as any other talking, really.

Learning public speaking in a classroom with a few dozen people isn't the same as being in front of the world media where every word and expression will be scrutinized and dissected.

Public speaking is a really difficult task. I've done it in front of 100's of people as well as small groups and it never gets any easier. Its about content and deliver of a message in way that is meaningful. Its also about not making a fool of yourself. But once its finished, then that's it.

The thought of giving a speech and it being seen by millions worldwide again, and again and again with every little hesitation debated would fill me with horror. ITs not like any other talking. I think she'll be fine but don't underestimate the task.

Hi guys ok so I got times for tomorrow's event. Kate's speech goes down at 11:30am UK time so it would be 4:30am PST/7:30amEST it will be streamed live on hellomagazine.com and on ITN News' facebook page.
