This is 1960s-1970s series, Philip is supposed to look between 40-50 in this picture, and Tobias has been made to look much older.

DM have used a stock image of Prince Philip from 1978 to match to a Prince Philip supposedly in 1960. Only 18 years difference...

No, its the late 60s-70s period. Last season covered up to '65, I believe, maybe a little after. I am pretty sure they are going to do a slight time jump as well this next season.

Honestly, Matt Smith did so well with the "physicality" of Prince Philip. His physical acting of the role was spot on and its hard for me to see someone else doing it the same justice. But Tobias is a great actor!
 
Next season is supposed to be early to late 70's. So I think they got Tobias' look right.

"The Crown will pick up in the 1970s, according to two production members. Producer Suzanne Mackie confirmed as much over the weekend, revealing that audiences “start meeting Camilla Parker Bowles in Season 3.”

The Crown’s history consultant, Robert Lacey, confirmed the timeline in a separate interview. “We’re now writing Season 3. And in Season 3, without giving anything away—it’s on the record, it’s history—we’ll see the breakup of this extraordinary marriage between Margaret and Snowdon,” he told Town & Country, referencing Princess Margaret and Lord Snowdon’s 1976 separation and 1978 divorce.

Also, I do not expect we will see season 3 this year. They filmed for 156 days for season 1/2. They are doing filming for 3/4 back to back as well. They didn't start production until July of this year which means they will certainly not be done until well past the new year.
 
Are the rumours true about Gillian Anderson set to play Thatcher?
 
The new season of Crown s going to be full of drama. As per reports, the season will focus on grown-up Charles and Anne. Also, the infamous rivalry between Princess Anne and Camilla will be shown
 
 
I don't think we'll see the Crown this side of Christmas I was reading that there were several recasts that has caused a big delay.

Great that it's covering this emotional disaster.
 
The delay between the disaster at Aberfan and the Queen and Prince Philip's visit is said to be one of the greatest regrets of the Queen in her long reign, so no doubt the makers of The Crown will be drawing some drama from it. I remember reading that the teenage Prince Charles wanted to go and help with digging out survivors but it wasn't allowed.
 
Wasn't there a bit of criticism over the delay in the media,I too am glad its not being glossed over in this series.
 
I dont think there was that much, actually. Those were much more deferential days, pre Murdoch and co. I think it was mainly that the Queen was shocked to the core by what she saw in the village, the despair, the valiant efforts to bring out bodies of children by parties of locals. She said she would return and she did, on the anniversary of the disaster, years later.

I actually think Josh looks quite a bit like Charles in the eyes and ears. He has a much better caboose than Charles did at the same age. ;)

And I think in the coronation scenes they blew it with the fitting on the coronet. The real Charles' crown looked as if it were about to fall down onto his nose at any moment. It was such a cliffhanger for me at the time! Josh's is perched farther up his forehead and looks secure. It spoils the drama of the moment for me.

You may be able to tell that the Wales Coronation was not my favorite bit of made-up ceremony in the history of EII's reign.

Never-mind because I will watch the series and enjoy every moment of it. :lol:

Edit - and this, folks is what the Daily Fail is good for. These early photos of filming that we really do want to see!
