Thanks. So, who hold the 3rd and 4th departments? The two princess daughters? And what about the remaining princess relatives?
Nobody, there are 5 levels of department possible, doesn't mean that there can be only five of them, decades ago there were dozens of princes and princesses with department belong to them; however, as I said, the department is just honorific now, there aren't any real corvee given to them
So, could he appoint one of his daughters as his heir? Or is it restricted to males? Could it also be someone outside of the family if it needs to be a man and the only available prince would be deemed unsuitable
1924 Palace Law of Succession forbade king to appoint woman to be heir, but article 21 of Thai constitution allow the privy council to nominate the late monarch's daughter if he hasn't appoint an heir before passed away. It's the privy council and parliament that can choose woman; if the king hasn't name an heir before; the king however, can't name woman to be successor.
However, the 1924 Palace Law of Succession can be amend if the king choose to. So, in effect, the king can name a woman as heir, just that the the Law of Succession has to be amend first.
