The queen beamed in red and the crown princess in silver. Football hero Andreas Granqvist was one of the guests at the big Swedish dinner.
The royal couple invited to the seventh Sweden dinner yesterday. Has it become a popular event?
- It is a form of representation dinner that was introduced in 2013 when the king had been on the throne for 40 years, says Johan Tegel, information officer at the court.
- For Sweden dinner, the royal couple invites representatives from each county together with the governor, so there will be a large geographical spread.
With the dinner, the royal family wants to draw attention to people who have made significant efforts and this year there were 178 guests at the tuxedo dinner. Some of those who greeted the royal family was football hero Andreas Granqvist who represented Skåne.
The queen was dressed in a red dress with lace at the sleeves and the crown princess wore a silvery white long dress with bare arms and ruffles in the skirt.
- Silvia wears a traditional dress that we are used to seeing her in, says Monika Kichau, a stylist who participates in SVT's "Go’kväll", among other things.
- Hair and makeup are very good and not everyone can wear red lace as good as the queen.
The dresses represent tradition and innovation, Monika thinks, and you can clearly see that two generations are meeting.
- Victoria's dress is really a top and a skirt and comes from the H&M Conscious Collection from this year, says Monika Kichau.
- I think Victoria challenges the boundaries a little, she is very good-looking in silver and the dress is a little 70s in the style with ruffles a little everywhere. With shoes in silver gray metallic, it becomes very cool, I have not seen this style on her before and I think it breathes a little disco, says Monika who also thinks it is good that the crown princess shows the way with sustainable design.
This year, Prince Carl Philip or Princess Sofia were not present at the Swedish dinner. They are at Capri to attend the wedding of Carolina Pihl and Gunnar Eliassen.
Those who traveled to Stockholm from Dalarna couldn't meet Princess Sofia, originally from Älvdalen?
- No, Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia have private commitments, says Johan Tegel..
Both the royal couple and the crown princess couple have had a hectic week. The king has been to Malmö, the queen has taken the first spade to Ersta hospital and together they have opened Folke Bernadotte's bridge among other things. They have also been to a dinner in the City Hall.
Victoria and Daniel have been to Denmark on a three-day visit.
Neither Prince Carl Philip nor Princess Sofia have been seen many times since last summer and have only five commitments in the royal house's calendar this fall.
Is it normal to skip a Sweden dinner?
- It is the king and queen who invite to this dinner and also the Crown Princess couple is participating, says Johan Tegel.
- The other members of the royal family participate as much as possible.
