One should tell President Santos that he doesn't need to walk behind the Queen. Actually he should not do it.

The Prince of Wales always was an excellent dresser but he seems not to renew his garderobe. His suits are becoming pretty oldfashioned. The link above showed the Prince in a visibly worn-out doublebreasted suit with wide lapels, one en vogue in the 1950's but really... this is 2016. It looks one or two sizes too big and because he always fiddles with his pocket, often there you see the textile stretched or worn out.

London has excellent tailors. I would advice the Prince to go for a sharper and better tailored look. I must say: the same counts for Prince William. His younger son Prince Harry is a better dresser but he is also more beefy in body, that helps with wearing suits.

it bothers me that in almost all state visits the first lady visiting always tours some kind of nursery, hospital or school. without failure. why can't first ladies (who are generally university graduates or the like) on state visits visit more 'meaty' events such as conferences, laboratories or the like? it is hugely insulting to women in my opinion. as if women were just good to play with kids and visit the ailing. mrs. santos, just like other first ladies, seems like a capable woman who would do great in supporting more value-adding causes.

i find it deeply concerning that high profile events such as this one cannot make an effort in showcasing women doing more powerful stuff. then we complain that women lack role models to succeed in corporate environments for example. well, if the wife of the head of state is only given 'menial' tasks such as playing with kids when all eyes are on her, what can we expect?

:previous: while I more than agree, in Clemencias case, it may suit her. Though she worked in banking and pr, she is a graphic art and illustrator. She has published children's education books from what I have read. And while she stays out of politics mainly, she spends a lot of time with charities for military and police veterans. So visiting nursery schools and hospitals likely appeals a lot to her.

Without doubt, a guest can request things they would particularly like to do, or see...

i agree, i am not saying NO ONE should do this activities. my comment wasn't at all directed just at mrs. santos. i speak more generally, from years seeing state visits in these forums.

Without doubt, a guest can request things they would particularly like to do, or see...

they probably can. but this is not just about what the first lady wants to see. it is a diplomatic activity and as such, advisors should intervene to direct the activities of the visit to what is right and what needs to be highlighted.

and i am not saying visiting schools is wrong. it is just a missed opportunity. and state visits are costly affairs - there can be no missed opportunities.

Those are fa-bu-lous tablepieces but Lord.... these lampshades.... Those candelabras were designed to have candles. From all State Banquets in Europe, only the British use lampshades.

Sweden

Luxembourg

Netherlands

Spain

UK (avec les horreurs, the lampshades!)

A agree for the Lampshades...
Happy to see Princess Alexandra with 2 family Orders and not the same Sash as Duchess Camilla, who I suppose wears a higher British Order?.

It actually the different way. Princess Alexandra wears the sash of the Order of the Garter which is the highest british Order and the Duchess of Corwnall the sash of the Royal Victorian Order. She will most likely get the Order of the Garter after her husband has become King.
The only british Princesses who have got the Order of the Garter are the Princess Royal and Princess Alexandra.

Charles looks really old and tired in those pictures and he's not even 70 yet, which, in modern times, with the advances in medicine and lifestyle, is not really such an old age.

The Prince of Wales works very hard, but he's the best dressed man I have ever seen.

Thanks Stephan.
Princess Alexandra wore 2 Family Orders a pink and a jellow. I suppose Georges VI and Elisabeth II.

No show up for this Event for Prince and Princess Michael of Kent. She does not have a family Order nor a Sash.

i wonder if the president's committe / entourage during the visit stays at the palace too since i see lots of people leaving the palace through the background doors in that video. is that the case? or only the president and spouse get to stay at the palace (along with, i assume, their close entourage) whilst most of their staff stay in nearby hotels?
