Another video of the presentation of items of the royal collection. Justine Marcela says that the lunch went on longer than planned:

It seems that the duke and duchess of Gloucester and the countess of Wessex were also present.
They showed the militairy Willems order of King George VI, which he received from Queen Wilhelmina in 1946. Another item was a portrait of the Duchess of Cambridge at the painting 'Girl with the pearl earring' by Vermeer.

At Clarence House:

I so love to see different descendents of the Electress Sophia (Sophia of the Palatinate, Electress of Hannover, daughter of Elizabeth Stuart, princess of England and Scotland) together. The Electress had a lot of children, but only two left descendants - both lines in line for the British throne. Elizabeth is the most senior descendant of George I., Sophia's eldest son, while Willem-Alexander is a descendant of Sophie Charlotte of Hannover, queen of Prussia. Here The Prince of Prussia is the senior descendant (which still means hundreds of positions down the succession line to the British throne) of this line, while Willem-Alexander descends from a Prussian princess.

Nice. And now for some shallowness: it is a pity that Queen Máxima has not followed Queen Beatrix ' habit of three outfits per day during State Visits. When she was Princess, escorting the Queen, she did change three times a day as well (morning, midday, evening).

The state visit program is too rushed to allow for a midday change in outfit .

The king indeed descends from the Prussian RF in various ways, he also descends from King George II through his eldest daughter Anne, Princess Royal, who married Stadholder William IV.

The king was able to change outfit 3 times thus far. Queen Maxima never changes her outfit during the day at state visits. When she escorted queen Beatrix often Beatrix would change while Maxima would not. It must be a personal choice.

I am hoping to see Kate wearing a Dutch order, but I am not counting on it.

Could you please post the link?
Well, the link to the video is posted in what I wrote, so all you have to do is to click on it. ??
(BTW, I see that Marengo has posted the same video, but with Dutch commentary.)

--------------------

I saw Camilla curtsy to Maxima, did Charles bow?
Nice visit so far. Elizabeth looks great!

another video

It's kinda funny to see how short the older British royals are compared to our King and Queen. Even Charles barely reaches above W-A's shoulders.

The older members of the BRF are indeed short by northern European standards (unlike William and Kate for example), but, on the other hand, W-A and Maxima are also quite tall. I don't think that has ever been an issue for Queen Elizabeth II or Prince Charles. Former British monarchs like Queen Victoria were also notoriously short.

Well Charles DID bow to King Felipe !

Amazingly enough Charles does now the protocol and his rank ...:whistling:

Yes, I corrected my previous post as you can see.

It will even be Kate's third State Banquet after the ones for China (Queen Mum's papyrus tiara) and Spain (Queen Mary's lovers knot tiara). I think, that the Cambridges have now become regular attendants of State Banquets, when in the Country and not having other engagements.

What time will the Banquet start? I assume that the Wessexes and the Gloucester's will also attend, as they were already seen at the event at Buckingham palace this afternoon.

I think I heard the King telling the Prince of Wales that he had been to Clarence House before in one of the videos before, perhaps it was when the queen mother was alive?

Lovely to see The King and the other gentlemen in jacquet for the Welcome Ceremony. That is already better than Don Felipe in just business suit.

I absolutely agree with you on that! A morning suit is the perfect way for a gentleman to dress for a state visit!:flowers:

An Uniform would be even better.

Well, for some mystic reason (other than almost all the other monarchs I can think of - except may be the japanese emperor) Willem Alexander hardly ever wears uniforms since his accession.

But not the Brits. But for some reason the stopped to wear them for the Welcome Ceremony at State Visits.

Is it known if the State Banquet will be 'live streamed' on the Royal family You Tube channel, as the Spanish State Visit Banquet was ?

Correct me if Im wrong, but I seem to remember that The King had to relinquish his position in the armed forces before ascending the throne. Something about the constitution I beleive.

Yes, I seem to remember that he announced his stopping to wear uniforms on his accession. There was some official reason behind.

I think it has something to do because he is part of the government.

Indeed.Everybody else changed clothes today as well,C & C andThe King too.
But Máxima will be dressed to impress again tonight....

Lovely! Does somebody recognize the necklace? Isn't that one from the Queen? Let's hope that we'll get better pics from the Banquet itself.
