I asked this before in the Dutch forums when the Turkey state visit took place and I'm curious again. So here's the same question but for Spain. What is the coverage on television or in newspapers/magazines like of a visit such as this one that the King and Queen are on. In America locally speaking there's not a lot of coverage when our president is out of the country on a big visit. You have to be watching a major news channel such as CNN to really get any news about it. So what's it like in Spain? Some coverage, a lot of coverage, or barely any coverage?

The Queen Admires the Crafts and Intends to Promote Them

“Lovely! I would like to take everything,” exclaimed Queen Sofia while doing an exclusive shopping spree at the plaza of San Pedro Las Huertas, Antigua Guatemala, in a trade fair organized to showcase the local products before the Spanish King and Queen. While the King (together with the Guatemalan President) preferred to just quickly browse through the exhibit, the Queen (with the First Lady) took her time to stop in each stall and look at items that catch her fancy – an assistant (who’s in an army uniform) follows her step, notes the items and prices, and then, eventually pays for them. This “important shopper” bought jewelry and clothes, including güipil (indigenous/local outfits) for her 8 grandchildren :flowers:

After their visit to the trade fair, the Spanish King and Queen and their Guatemalan Presidential Couple proceeded to a Jesuit Convent in the area to inaugurate a library the specializes in Economic Cooperation. The Spanish Government (through Cooperación Española) has been supporting local economic development in Antigua Guatemala by providing technical assistance to craftsmen, farmers, and tour operators. According to the municipal mayor, this Spanish program will be directly benefiting 30,000 people with limited resources – something that is (according to him) a huge contribution to an area where 68% live in poverty, 60% are under 20 years old, and 58% are women.
