This is the second time in a week that I am making the same comment: Sarah is looking uncharacteristically elegant!!!

Marengo...a lamp on your head?!

Yes, you are correct. Money can't buy class. Usually the new people money are often the loudest and tackiest. With a look at me I have money attitude! That's why I think that royals will continue to be needed for their patronage and position. Movie stars come and go and reality stars are a joke.

Sarah does look great!

I wish it was, but somebody seriously threw a complete lamp (not just the bulb) on my head. It was terribly crowded where we were working and those people are not used to wait. And since the younger crowd was where we were working, they were under the influence of more than just alcohol.

The duchess indeed looked elegant, esp. compared to other people attending. Most of them showed too much of everything, not minding their age. The dresscode was not clear either, most were in a gala dress, many in cocktail dress and some in a skirt+ jacket, like Sarah. She did seem a bit lost though. It was rather odd when she was announced, a big drum rol: .... and here is.... the duchess of York. People cheering and applauding as if they announced a pop singer. She did seem rather down to earth, good natured and unimpressed by the whole thing, which was nice to see among all those people who take themselves too seriously. Last year they 'hired' Pamela Anderson' for the opening btw.

:previous: I think I would have been like Sarah, not too impressed by that Millionaire Fair. But thanks for sharing your impressions. :flowers:

Sarah has been giving interviews to promote The Young Victoria ahead of its opening in American theatres:

I just saw a short interview in a boulevard magazine on Dutch television, recorded just before the opening. The duchess was at the opening to get money for her charities. The organisation gave her funds for building schools. She said that events like these are good for her to meet people who can support these causes financially.

She also said that 2009 has been a horrible year for her, but that she managed to keep standing. When the interviewer asked what her favourite luxery was, she replied good health. Though she added that she too liked a nice watch etc.

She did not leave immidiately and walked around for an hour or so btw. She was very nice to her make up artist (a Dutchman who does all the celebrities), and the next day she even sent him a text message to thank him.

The interviewer is usually quite sceptical about royals but in this case he was very positive, as were all other people who commented in the item.

She has an interview in NY Times today and a small article in Parade magazine. She is in the US promoting the film "Young Victoria".
She seems to have grown up since she was 49 and according to her interview, now she knows better.

A campaign to renovate a Shirehampton tithe barn has received the royal seal of approval.
The Duchess of York, Sarah Ferguson, right, has written to fundraisers at St Mary's Church, in High Street, with a letter of support for the project.
In her letter the Duchess, who recently led a televised project to create a community centre in Manchester, writes: "The work that you are doing in Bristol is incredibly important. It is thanks to communities like yours, who are keeping the village spirit alive, that Britain will be able to continue its tradition of bringing together members of society for a cup of tea."

The article that Odette mentioned : http://www.nytimes.com/2009/12/13/movies/13ferguson.html?em .

I think its a good article, not so much the typical woe is me that sometimes you get from Sarah.

Yes, I think that's the one that gets so much comment when pics are posted of Sarah wearing it. It seems to be a favourite item in her wardrobe.:flowers:

wow that's a colourful scarf!

She was just on the Today Show, talking about her Victoria movie. She voiced regret that she and Andrew hadn't fought for their love. She didn't ask BP for permission to put Bea in the movie. She said Bea had her own ideas about things like that (so I'm not sure if Bea consulted BP or if it was a surprise to them, revealed in the tabloids).

Considering Beatrice's age and her own clear admiration for her grandmother I have no doubts that Beatrice spoke to her grandmother before appearing in the film.

:previous:I can't imagine that HM is thrilled to pieces over this.

From what it says in the Mail & Telegraph, it's not stuff from her days as a royal. It's from her pre royal days. Good luck to her. It's strange how many people praise Prince Michael and his wife, Zara Philips and demand that Kate Middleton works for a living but shout and holler when Sarah does the same. Hope she sells bucket loads.

And of course Sarah has left the royal family so is free to do what she likes.

I suppose it's okay that she's making a living from her own things, rather than royal things. But the way the title in phrased it seems she is selling things she has collected whilst being a member of the royal family. I can understand why PM is being criticised but not Zara. :)

Well, she can recoup alot of her financial losses on QVC- I'm anxious to see what reproductions they come up with.

I can't imagine that News of the World always tells "the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth." ;)
Well luckily it was from the family in Ireland and not the Windsor family.
