Is it just me who thinks that Prince Harry may have had his braces removed too soon? To me, his smile is still quite gappy...

My guess is that he didn't wear his retainer.

Sorry to hear about your daughter's issue, Jordana2. What does her dentist say? I don't know how good the home remedies work. I remember my ex tried everything for years to get his teeth whiter and nothing worked until he went to the specialists. At least w your daughter she has more options available to her. Have you tried looking more info. up on the internet? Or actually, maybe even going to a health store, like GNC. Good Luck.

HRH Amy, I heard that too about the Queen Mother. I can't imagine anyone going through a day w/out brushing their teeth, let alone their entire life. But she did have pretty funky teeth so you never know. I heard she liked to have a nip every now and then (I think of brandy) and that she was very fond of sugary treats, two things that would have ruined her teeth if she wasn't keeping up on their care. If it's true she didn't brush her teeth, you'd think they'd have rotted clear out of her head.

When I see a pic of the Queen Mother smiling, I notice her bad teeth too. I wonder why she never got any dentistry work done?

A gap doesn't necessarily mean that braces are required, and braces are not necessarily prescribed to fix a gap. In my opinion, if there is no misalignment, and only a gap, braces are unnecessary.

I'm still stunned William had braces, he has a horrible smile and it looks like something weird is going on with his front teeth, but I'm not sure if it's an overbite.
Whatever Kate's work was, she is the poster child for good royal teeth.

Harry's teeth look good to me, I'll have to take a closer look.

William had a tooth or teeth knocked out about 3 or so years ago.

I googled and found several articles about it.

I think the retainer or braces that William wore in his 20s did something to seriously change his smile. If you look at pictures of him in his teens / early 20s / late 20s to now, it seems like his smile has gradually changed. He definitely had an overbite before, but I almost think they over corrected it. It almost seems like he has too many teeth for his mouth now. Doesn't help that his smile for a long while in his late 20s/early 30s often looked forced. More recently, he's seemed a bit more natural when smiling and it's really affected the look of his smile.

I don't mean to be rude, but I keep seeing pictures of some royals that would greatly benefit from dental whitening (Queen Sofia, Queen Margrethe).

They are most of the time in front of the public eye and a healthy smile is part of an overall good presence.

I just wonder what you all think about this subject.

I agree, a clean fresh and a bright smile is part of your overall look. That can ruin a look. You can be dressed to the 9's. A great gown or tux, and dripping in diamonds etc...... but soon as you open your mouth. And all people see is rows of brown jacked up teeth, the look is ruined. But hey, their still royal right.

I don't even have to mention the health issues that come with poor dental care. I think that lack of really good dental care is with the older royals. The Queen mother, omg. Lovely woamn, i wouldn't want to be within breathing distance when she spoke:sick::sick:

I know that also drinking all that tea doesn't help either. I am a big tea drinker, but my teeth are naturally white and i make sure that they stain free. I don't whiten my teeth, being a woman of color i don't want to feed into the sterotype:D

I know that hear in the states we have floride i. Our drinking water that helps with dental health.

William really does not have a great smile. His teeth are nice and straight, but the rest of his smile just isn't that great.

There's nothing "wrong" with it per se--except maybe he looks at little horsey when he smiles. It's just not as attractive as Meghan, Kate or Harry.

What is "wrong" with his smile?

His mouth isn’t big enough for his teeth. That’s how it looks to me. When he was younger, he had a nice smile but he also had an overbite. The overbite has been corrected, but it makes his mouth look stretched out when he does a full smile. That combined with the fact that for several years his smile in photos had a forced look to it (ie the smile you do when you say “cheese” instead of your natural smile) has his smile looking a bit off.

More recent pictures have him looking a bit more relaxed, his smile is looking more natural and less off. It makes me think that he’s a bit happier in life now than he was the last few years.

That said, while his braces may have made his smile look off, having corrected an overbite is probably better for his overall dental health, so I’m sure he doesn’t regret them.

That is the famous Windsor bite. The Queen, her children, but also her late sister Princess Margaret's children David and Sarah all have the Windsor bite. Firm, strong, straight ivory examples. What Americans forget about "perfect teeth" is that like the eyes, the form of the nose, the cheeks, the mouth, also the teeth is very much a familial footprint. In the teeth of Prince William his late mother Diana is so recognizeable. In the teeth of Prince Harry immediately his father Charles and his grandfather Philip can be recognized.

Americans have completely lost the eye for authenticiy. All these jackets, all these inlays, all these fake smiles and one can not tell anymore who is whose son or daughter by looking at the teeth.

Recently I saw a repeat of the 1980's hit movie Top Gun. The hero in that movie, Tom Cruise, had pearly white teeth but very irregular. But that is who he is. Most likely his siblings, or his father or his mother have similar teeth. But now his whole facial expression has been ruined by those ugly white perfectly right and almost with Swiss precision outlined teeth. Now thát is horrible!

Exactly Duc et Pair knows what we meant so I won't turn this into a debate.
LMAO at trying to insult Tom Cruise, his perfect smile is one of the things he is known for and what has made him a movie star for 4 decades.

There is something definitely horse like about his smile. To me it seems like his mouth is too small not to big.
And overbites can be great, my husband Freddie Mercury had one. [emoji7]

[....]

Sorry to ruin your dream he certainly no way TC had the same "perfect smile". Even he has fallen victim to the American disease.

Top Gun

Why, oh why? :bang:

In comparison with all the restoration works, the Windsors have fabulously beautiful natural teeth I must say. The Queen, Prince Andrew, Princess Beatrice, Prince William, the Earl of Snowdon, really, I can not see a fault.

That photo shows exactly what the difference is- William's head is longer and narrower and therefore his jaw is shaped differently. His wife's jaw is wider so of course her teeth sit differently in her mouth.

I like nice teeth but honestly some people's anymore are so white and luminous they look creepy and fake.

I think both William and Catherine have nice, clean, healthy natural teeth and gums, in a natural ivory colour with the natural differences in teint between the elements and a charming natural smile. I rest my case.

Tom Cruise doesn't care about your preference on his dental work, it has made him millions so clearly people like it. I don't know if he would have the career he has had if he didn't get dental work.

I don't immediately praise something because it's natural; if a person has teeth on top of each other growing in all different directions then there is nothing wrong with getting it fixed. In a similar fashion, Kate's hair is naturally curly as is Meghan's yet they work overtime to straighten it; good for them if that is what makes them happy.

O-H you may have a point about William's smile the problem isn't his teeth but the shape of his head that make his mouth and teeth appear odd.

This is an interesting thread. I watch some UK programs on YouTube, and the comments often address the teeth of the people in the video.

I just read an article that Americans and the British have equally healthy teeth. Americans have more missing teeth (I have one gone myself). Americans have more of a focus on cosmetic dentistry. As an American, I have not had any and have often been complemented on my teeth. (Lost tooth does not show. Ha) I think straight teeth run in my family and I have been told by dentists that my children will not need braces.

I do not see a problem with William and Harry's teeth. I will have to look at the other family members

As I understand from an in-law who is English -- for some older English people, yellowish and even a bit askew teeth are preferable to straight shiny whiteys as it lets people know you have your own teeth.
