I agree with you on needing to have a good relationship with the designer in order for the dress to come out right. Although I disagree about Queen Silvia's dress. She had that giant cameo crown on, you don't want some big foofy dress underneath to distract it. You want something simple and clean-looking, and that's what she got. Also, yes you're a royal bride, but you don't want to look like something that belongs on top of the cake, which is what Alexandra looked like.

Do you mean Marie Therese? I believe that Oscar de la Renta only designed for the house of Balmain in 1992 (when he became the first American to show a collection in Paris). I don't think he was associated with them in the early 1980s.
