Royal Visit to USA

HRH Prince Leka II Zogu, and his fiancee Elia Zaharia, had a very successful and enjoyable visit to America earlier this month, visiting Manhatten, New York City, and other places too. They met American hosts, and many ex-pat emigre Albanian-American communities, and the Royal couple were popularly received and are an incredibly positive asset to Albania both at home and as ambassadors for Albania and the Royal dynasty when travelling abroad.

Unfortunately no, i've only seen a few personal photos from people who were there, and not on any official sites or links sorry.
But i would think there must be some official pics on some organisations websites, as the couple visited various American-Albanian emigre communities, and also some Jewish immigrant organisation too.

Also buried at Thaias Cemetery, Orly (Paris), are many of King Zog's Ministers, Officers, and Court Officials in exile.

King Zog's other two sister's both died and are buried in Cairo, Egypt - HH Princess Ruhije Zogu (1948), HH Princess Nafije Kryeziu Zogu (1955).

Is it only to me, or are the Albanian royals not close to other royal families? I cannot remember having seen pictures of them with royal families of other countries.

Yes the Albanian Royal family are friends and close with other Royals, particularly the Bulgarian, Italian, and Spanish Royals.

The main reason why many people don't associate the Albanian Royal family with other Royal families is that originally as the only Muslim Royal family in Europe, and with the Albanian Monarchy being relatively new (1928) they are not historically connected by marriage with other European Royal families.

However, through Queen Geraldine the family are related to many Hungarian and Austrian aristocratic and noble families, like the Counts Apponyi Nagy-Appony, Sztaray, Seherr-Thoss, Strachwitz, Karolyi Nagy-Karoly, Barons Inkey de Pallin.

Through the marriage of King Zog's sister, Princess Senije Zogu, to Prince Sherzade Mehmed Abid Osmani of Turkey (son of Sultan Abdul Hamid II), the Albanian Royal family are related to the Osmanoglu Turkish Royal family.

Also through the Albanian-Turkish General Ziya Pasha Zogolli branch of the Zogu family they have made marriages with Ottoman Turkish aristocratic Pashas and Beys families in Turkey.

Outside of dynastic marriages, the Albanian Royal family are friends and connected with the Spanish Royal family from King Leka's, and Queen Geraldine's, time living in Spain with diplomatic status from 1961.
They also maintained their friendship with the Bulgarian Royal family, also in Spain at this time too 1960's-70's.

From King Zog's time in exile with his family in Egypt 1946-1955, under the invitation and political recognition of King Farouk, the Zogu family became close to the Egyptian Royal family, as well as both the Bulgarian and Italian Royal families, also living in exile in Egypt during the 1940's.

Also in one of my very recent posts in this thread i wrote details of HRH Crown Prince Leka II Zogu's Italian Royal Honours ceremony in Geneva last month, where he was awarded and honoured as a Knight of The Order of Saint Lazarus.

I have also seen pictures of them with the Russian and Georgian royal families who were living in Spain at the same time as them too. Leka I was at Maria Vladimira's wedding along with the Bulgarians, Georgians, and Spanish, etc. Recently, I have seen Leka II with Prince Andrew of Great Britain which was work related not social.

Albania to repatriate remains of former royal < French news | Expatica France

Remains of King Zog to be reburied in Tirana on 17 November

Albania will repatriate the remains of King Zog I from France, where he died in exile in 1961, government spokeswoman Erla Mehilli told AFP Wednesday. An official burial will be held November 17 in the capital Tirana at a cemetery where other members of the royal family are already interred.

In Tirana the government will organise the burial ceremony. In December 2011 the pretender to the Albanian crown, the Crown Prince Leka, was given a burial "with all royal attributes" despite the fact that Albania is now a republic.

Zog ruled Albania from 1925 until 1939. He started out as president but in 1928 proclaimed a constitutional monarchy and was crowned King of the Albanians. He fled the country in 1939 after Italy invaded. He died in exile in France aged 66 and was buried in the Thiais cemetery.

In her Memories Queen Geraldine said she had to sell her engagement ring for the late husband funerals.

Albanian national anthem has a very nice melody.

Grand Duke George of Russia was also in attendance.

Any photo with the Tsarevitch at this event?

The Albanian Royal family attended the exhumation of HM King Zog at Thiais cemetery, Paris, France, led by HRH Prince Leka II Zogu.
In Tirana, Albania, for the laying in state ceremony and the reburial of HM King Zog, the family were again led by HRH Prince Leka, with his fiancee Elia Zaharia, and cousins of the extended Zogu/Zoga family (descendants of H.E Xhemal Pasha Zogolli and H.E General Zia Pasha Zogolli) - Skender Zogu from France, and Muammer Ergun Zoga, Berna Kizilay Zoga, and Belcin Zoga, from Istanbul, Turkey.

Who of you think that European Royal Family members (or members of the world royalty) will attend the wedding of Leka and Elia?

:previous:

I don't know whether there will be representatives of reigning European houses but I'm pretty sure some of the non-reigning ones will show up. The Romanians royals are virtually a certainty because the Albanian and Romanian royal families have forged a pretty solid relationship in recent years.

Maria of Russia and/or her son George as well as Nikola of Montenegro are also possibilities.
