I believe she would be EMPLOYED BY THEM! I don't believe they are worried about snubbing her, she would no longer be there if they didn't wish it! I'm sure they have a lot of respect for her since they grew up with her and she still stands by their side. However I imagine Albert and Caroline have no need for simple protocol instruction that others may still be in need of.
No it's not a stretch. Please refer to my early post above. The Rose Ball is traditionally a COSTUME BALL. This year's theme was Movida a time period in the 1980's Spain and cultural events taking place at that time. Most don't like Caroline's dress and had it not become see-through in certain light, it actually was indicative of the quirky style of the theme of the ball. Not everyone was in costume. Those who understood the spirit of the event came in costume. Please note the Mardi Gras atmosphere of the event. The photographers naturally shot only the main "characters" but if you notice the surroundings you will see that Caroline was in "character" for the theme. Charlene and a few others were not. You need to look at the whole event.

Well, whatever the case may be, when in charge of an event of such magnitude, one should try to impose a certain coherence, and coherence was certainly lacking. (As opposed to when Grace was in charge: there, it was certainly clear when there were costume balls.) Charlotte's dress has been compared to enough styles, a Spanish eighties one not being one of them, unless I missed some posts. Who among her friends, also came in costume ? Or is costume all in the eyes of the beholder ?
As far as the photographers' lights go and everything, Caroline has been to enough events to be aware of such mishappenings. This is not Princess Diana as a nursery school teacher with the back lighting highligthing her legs.
I am sure I am not the only one that happened to have such a myopic view of the event that it needed to be explained to make us "get it".
I agree with you 100%. Even if this was a costume ball, Caroline surely could have gotten more into the "spirit of things" without flashing certain body parts best left covered up after age 35. She is one of the world's most tasteful, elegant women and I am her biggest fan but she belly flopped big time this year and there is no use trying to excuse it away. I totally "get it!"
As for Charlene, maybe she felt she couldn't pull off the "camp" look for the evening so decided to play it safe? She would have been torn apart worse than Caroline if she showed up in an outfit like the Princess's!
Maybe Caroline didn't realize that, but nonetheless, as the top of the dress wasn't thight and didn't fit her well, I wonder why she didn't wear a bra, as any lady of her age should.I have to agree about the body parts but I really wonder if she realized that under certain light it would become see-through? .
I have to agree about the body parts but I really wonder if she realized that under certain light it would become see-through? I also think you are right about Charlene but she does have a habit of getting things wrong most of the time. I do like her haircut and she finally got someone to professionally color her hair.
Why does Charlene have to color hae hair, isn´t she blond enough, i don´t think she has grey hair yet.
Charlene's dress was beautiful she was radient. Someone asked about the mark on her arm I believe it is from a vaccination I have one also. We were given one in high school and whatever type it is everyone gets a mark on their arm. However Charlene's looks to have been infected at a time to leave that large a mark when some are only left with a slight discolouring of the skin.
Pierre is so handsome but I had to ask: I was looking at the HOLA! pictures and it looked to me like he was wearing slippers
Maybe Caroline didn't realize that, but nonetheless, as the top of the dress wasn't thight and didn't fit her well, I wonder why she didn't wear a bra, as any lady of her age should.
Is she a teenager?
I am afraid this is another sympton of mid-age crisis, as other posters said.
No I don't think hibou meant grey hair. I think Charlene's hair had become damaged by years of exposure to chlorine and other elements while swimming so she has wisely had a colorist to highlight it.
The damage should be gone by now and her color isn't normal she is a dark blonde light brown.that's what I meant. blonde hair turns all sorts of colors with sun and chlorine damage not to mention all the mouse and hairspray it's subjected to these days, so it was best to cut it short and get the color normal.
I'm wondering what Caroline's thinking now, when these unflattering pictures are all around the globe.
Maybe they did!Maybe they should have switched outfits?
The Rose Ball when Grace was alive was strictly dedicated to a country or a rose, and it was usually a ball to celebrate those elements. It wasn't a costume ball in her time...the pics where you see Princess Grace wearing costume dresses are from other events such as: the 100 years of Monte Carlo, a head dress gala in the Casino, and others, but never at a Rose Ball.
Princess Caroline in 1994 decided to renovate the ball and since then it's been destined to honor a theme and create a whole concept that deals with this theme, being reflected in the decor, the performers and such. In modern days it is not a costume ball, since guests are requiered to wear a tuxedo and a night dress, not a costume. Princess Caroline has never gone dressed fully in costume, yet she tries to wear maybe some elements that can be associated to the theme in her accesories...never seen her wearing a bowl of fruit on her head, a tango dress etc.
The themes have been:
1994: The Insolit, to honor the russian rose gardens
1995: Tango
1996: Caribbean
1997: 700th Anniversary of the Grimaldi family
1998: SBM, Monaco in the 50s
1999: Prince Rainier's Jubilee
2000: 2000, tribute to Fernando Botero
2001: The Desert
2002: Pop
2003: Africa
2004: China
2005: Brazil
2006: Reggae
2007: Gypsy

I agree with you Johnnie: Lagerfeld has always been a caricature. And also agree with your friend's statement about Caroline: she's appeared as if she thinks she's anointed by God, especially since she married EA.
I have the feeling that the only man who were capable of taking her "back to the earth", so to speak, was Stefano.
Hibou, I also wonder how could Caroline wear such dress without realizing it may have turned into a see-through one in that kind of light. She wasn't born yesterday; she's been in the spotlight since her birth, and she isn't a naive teenager anymore, although I doubt she might have ever been naive.
I think she could be an excellent photographer and a skilled editor in chief herself.
She wanted to shock the audience and demonstrate that she can still bear comaprison with younger women like Charlene (and perhaps her daughter? God forbid!)
I'm glad that Stephanie stayed out from the Ball. She must have realized that one circus is enough. I also have always though that she is the most caring and intelligent of the trio. She's a person that desperately needs love, especially after her mother's death. She saw her mother die, but instead of being protected by her family she was accused for killing her Mom.
I was shocked when reading an interview Albert gave to CHI mag some months ago, when he said: "It's true that we left Stephanie all alone after that car accident, but she never asked us for help."
What? If my sister had had such an accident I wouldn't have waited for her to come to me and cry: "Hey, I need help!" It clearly showed she needed help. No wonder that she tried search for someone to cherish her outside her family circle.
