Well, maybe if Rania did something of substance the media would spill more ink about that instead of her looks and her clothes.
I'm a journalist and I've written for magazines, newspapers and online publications. Describing how a person looks or what they are wearing is part and parcel of what we do; it is a way of showing readers a different side of the person being profiled that is not depicted in what they say or what others say about them. In my experience, while you always comment on how a person looks, how much of your valuable words you spend on a person's physical looks or clothes depends on a lot of other factors.
In Rania's case, from the articles I've read about her in several Western publications, including Vanity Fair, Vogue, Harper's Bazaar and Pscyhology Today, writers seem to be focusing on Rania's looks because she is indeed a striking individual, and also because she is such a juxatposition considering what she represents: Rania is the Queen of a relatively poor country yet she shows up in designer wears. That is not to say that she should show up for these kind of things or photo shoots in shabby clothes, but I think as mentioned elsewhere, she could be more discreet.
And yes, these publications and television programs that have Rania on are serving their own purpose - and a pretty lady on television will certainly sell commericials. There is no delusion that they are there to further Rania's purpose or cause.
But what is Rania's purpose for appearing on these shows or giving interviews to these publications?
