As for Q. Rania, I hope she will change her ways, and stop flaunting her wealth. There is a way to look good without flaunting it. She looks very bad to me flaunting designer clothers while the most Jordanians find it hard to buy basic items. If Jordan had an average standard of living comparable to countries in Europe, the Gulf, or the US, then it wouldn't look so bad. More discretion is needed on her part. She should ditch the animosity and try to learn as much as possible from Q. Noor.
I agree, bluetortuga. I think Queen Rania, if she wants to maintain all her designer clothes and accessories, needs to exercise more discretion. And with hold the flaunting of such luxuries and extravagances for a time when the rest of the people of Jordan can easily afford basic items.

She seems smart and very well spoken, but let's be real here.
Would a Jordanian Queen that has nothing to do with US be on Oprah and NBC if it wasn't for her looks.
I don't think so.
BTW i live in EU so sorry if i don't make sense sometimes

Looks are in the eyes of the beholder. There can be some general concensus that particular individuals are beautiful, such as Rania, where I think most people but not all would say that Rania is beautiful physically. And there are others who some might think are beautiful and others not.

I watch Oprah and I watch NBC, and there are often people whom I would not say is beautiful on these shows and networks, but who have interesting things to say.

Rania's beauty cannot and should not be the sole defence for her actions and lifestyle. At some point she has to be held accountable beyond that.

That's true, and it's the way it should be.But i'm sure if Qrania looked like Q of Sweden ,she wouldn't be anywhere .
I live in a small Europ. country that doesn't have royals(not saying which one, don't wanna people to know who i'm am from other forums LOL)and even in magazines in my country,QQrania would get 1 or 2 pages, when other royals get some small paragraphs i dont even notice.
I've never even seen an article about Sweden family until that girl had anorexia or something like that.Even then it was only in few words in royals section.
World media is a only interested in UKroyals and Grimaldi's , other royals are only for their domestic people and nobody really cares about them on the larger scale.
Rania is just the "thing" that's in right now.She just feels the need to deliver the goods to the world media i guess.
She should tone her image down while she's in Jordan i suppose.

As far as QSilvia goes, she was never in the same legaue as Qrania, not even when younger. There is something wrong with her cheeks. She has skeletal look .To much face lifting obviously.

I'm European  but really besides British and Monaco's Royals nobody is interesting to the media.
Can u imagine princess Noor of Hamzah being on Oprah one day.I sure can't.
She may be smart but who would wanna watch her unless she's something "special".
It's gross but unfortunately it's how the media operates these days.

I confess not a lot appreciated the display of luxury of rania, I always found it out of place considering the poverty in which lives the people of jordan
l is also true that she is not the only one to have similar attitude, but as it is the more mediatized of the first ladies, people only think about her in their critique whereas there is some of others that don't have the style of life that should be theirs, seen their people's standard of living,
this display of wealth can be only conceivable for a western queen whose people lives correctly

Queen Silvia's looks are irrelevant (although I think she looks fine). She is well put together and serves her country well without creating controversy. One does not have to be photogenic (although Queen Silvia is) to be a good role model and a leader. Rania may get magazine coverage, but that too is not the point. She shouldn't be worried about how much or in what light she is potrayed in gossip and fashion magazines, or how many invites she has to Oprah etc. She should be more concerned about how she is conceived by her husband's subjects -- you know, the ones who pay for her lifestyle.

Well, Brian I do feel that we have right to be critical of Rania as long as Jordan will use our money. I am Canadian and Canada contributes a lot of money to third world countries. We pay huge amount of fees to the UN and every year some pie of our budget goes to third world countries. The majority of Canadian revenue comes from Canadian taxpayers. Our taxes are high (which is OK). This year we gave 1.2 billion to those countries, year before 1 billion.
We've actually gone down in the amount of aid with give. Although we still give a lot (and we should), among the OECD countries we quite low on the list.

Now, we have new prime minister and one of his hobbies are third world countries.
So he makes out. And, in my opinion, the plight of the developing world should be a real concern given the growing disparities and disease, as opposed to a mere hobbby. It was he who cut the aid budget as finance minister. Personally I don't expet any substantial increase, as he is guided by neo liberal economic principles (that's a whole other story). He'll have to do better than inviting Bono to give a key note address. Initiatives such as the former Prime Minister's NEPAD (New Partnership for Africa’s Development) initiative is a good start. However, when you have 7000 people a day dying from one disease, the world should be doing more (such as providing generic drugs post-haste). Even getting G8 leaders to contribute to that initiative was a long, gruelling process. Bush promised billions in AIDS aid to Africa, but that has yet to materialize and there are so many unrealistic political and moral string attached that it is questionable if it ever will. In any event, let's hope that Martin keeps does, in fact, work towards levelling the playing with the developing world. It takes more than aid though. We have too look at trade and borrowing policies as well. Anyway, I"m getting way off topic.

So we can expect that the sum will go up. I do believe that we should share our wealth with those who are less privilege.

Actually, we don't, but I know what you mean. We take far more than we give. If the entire world were to live at our leve we would need 2 planet earths to sustain us (this is a fact). The only reason we in the West can live like we do is because we take more than our fair share.

However, I do believe that we have right to judge the leaders from those countries the way we judge our politicians. And we do not spare them from anything. We watch every step they do. And if our prime minister wife would spend as much as Rania does, he would not be prime minister for one minute. Our politicians serve us not we them.

Hear, hear. I agree completely. I think it may have something to do with our Canadian background. I find that we are generally well informed as a people. It could have something to do with less unbiased media coverage and less vested interests influencing policy.

I have to say that I agree somewhat with kiarasecretagent.
I mentioned this before and I'll say it again, of all the interviews of Queen Rania that I've read and seen in the American media, almost all of them pay special attention to her looks and her clothes. Even an interview in a psychology magazine (I forget the exact name of the magazine) started off with the interviewer describing what Rania was wearing, from her clothes down to her shoes. Same thing with a Newsweek article. The Oprah magazine article went as far as describing her long legs. Is it just me or should a Queen not be taken more seriously?
It seems to me that the media is just as much to blame for being superficial. It is unfortunate that Rania seems to be playing along. Either she likes the attention or is unaware of the fact that the likes of Vogue and Vanity Fair are only in it for the money and couldn't care less about what sort of work she does.

Um, she isn't that naive. It's obvious she is catering to the media by her way of dress and her activities. Most royals do not grant interviews to or pose for fashion magazines like Vogue. At least not Queen consorts. I consider it horribly undignified, but that's just my opinion. It reaches not audience that can help the Jordanian people and sends no message, other than that Rania is aware of fashion. Whether right or wrong, one gets the impression that she is interested in celebrity. However, she's the wife of a political leader, and is not a supermodel.

Oh, and I wasn't disagreeing with the previous poster. I was just adding my two bits in. ;)

I'm from arab country, actually Q Rania disappoint me.I was expecting the palastinian well educated woman gives  her focus on palastinian issue rather than caring about clothes,handbags,shoes,........etc

Well, maybe if Rania did something of substance the media would spill more ink about that instead of her looks and her clothes.

I'm a journalist and I've written for magazines, newspapers and online publications. Describing how a person looks or what they are wearing is part and parcel of what we do; it is a way of showing readers a different side of the person being profiled that is not depicted in what they say or what others say about them. In my experience, while you always comment on how a person looks, how much of your valuable words you spend on a person's physical looks or clothes depends on a lot of other factors.

In Rania's case, from the articles I've read about her in several Western publications, including Vanity Fair, Vogue, Harper's Bazaar and Pscyhology Today, writers seem to be focusing on Rania's looks because she is indeed a striking individual, and also because she is such a juxatposition considering what she represents: Rania is the Queen of a relatively poor country yet she shows up in designer wears. That is not to say that she should show up for these kind of things or photo shoots in shabby clothes, but I think as mentioned elsewhere, she could be more discreet.

And yes, these publications and television programs that have Rania on are serving their own purpose - and a pretty lady on television will certainly sell commericials. There is no delusion that they are there to further Rania's purpose or cause.

But what is Rania's purpose for appearing on these shows or giving interviews to these publications?

Well that was my point...either she doesnt get the fact that posing like a model all the time isn't going to get her much credibility or she enjoys seeing her face plastered all over the place. I understand that she may want to bring attention to her country and region, but Vanity Fair and Vogue dont exactly cater to the politically aware crowd so they aren't going to go into details about what she may or may not be doing to help her people. And so far, those are exactly the kind of publications i've mostly see her appear in. If she indeed does want to address her country's problems through concrete solutions, she'll cut down on the model-like shoots.

There is only a reality:
Rania, Jordanian Queen ... monetary reach. Luxury, shoes, bags, clothes...
Jordan, the country...... reach of poor people!!!

But, who can change this?....
certainly we cannot.
Only Jordanians' citizens can do...

And King Abdullah and Queen Rania, maybe will died to look this change in the future. This change maybe could be next century, or maybe never.

Depend the capacity of support of Jordanian People about their government, while Rania and Abdullah still spending, and spending, and spending...

Only destiny know what about Jordanians in the future. While Rania and Abdullah still spending and spending and spending, until Abdullah die and Rania will be like Queen Noor.... out of the game!

I don't think they thought about her much. She wasn't very well known. You can tell from her pictures that she used to be really shy--she was married at such a young age and her personallity wasn't really fully complete as a woman yet. She was just 23 years old.

I just read that to. And that is the reason why she stay so skinier

Hey People!

What is the problem oh having diabetes? You act like stupid people,as you give her a stigma, like she has Aids!

Diabetes is a Metabolism- Disease, and bad for a person which have to live with it, because she must give herself injections with Insulin, 3 times a day or maybe mutch more( by Diabetis Mellitus).

Don't act like farmers and even if this rumour is true, we must respect her mutch more, because she stands in the focus of the media, travel a lot and present her country as mutch she can!

You are so silly Mizrahi!

Sorry for saying that, but blood diseases doesn't matters with eye problems! How many people in the world are wearing glasses. I think your IQ is not very high! Go and test it.

Noelle, did we show our happiness in the messages concerning her illness? No! I just say the facts I really know from arabic people ! is there anybody who will happy to hear about this?
I feel u are very upset ….. sorry if it’s the truth

Noelle, I have 2 friends who have this illness one of them is ill from his childhood and his eyesight becomes worse and worse as I know doctors opinion it is a result of diabetes ! if he lies I also lie! Diabetes is illness which every organism follows in his own way the concequences can be different

Upset? Mizrahi Girl, you have to know, I hate nothing more about hearing rumours which doesn't based on the truth, further if you can't proof it!
On the other hand I'm neither Jordan, nor involved in this family, so how could I be upset?
Just as simply person I felt with Queen rania, which can't can't protect herself against this rumours.

And if they have blood diseases, which kind of them they have? Do you mean Thallasaemia?

It seems to me Noelle your attention is very dissipated as u remember we were discussing diabetes and if u really haven’t heard about consequenses of this illness check ur IQ ok?
I just heard this information about rania today from 2 arab boys in university where I study!

Will both of you calm down!!!

Know, Noelle, it is well known that diabetes destroys a person's eyesight. Look it up on webmd.com. If this has anything to do with her kid's eyesight is a whole 'nother matter. But you are right, we don't know for sure about QR having diabetes, only her doctor and her know. Also you are right that it something that has to be dealt with but it is not a terminal condition.

No one on this board is 'celebrating' the possiblity of QR having diabetes. Quite the opposite.

However implying farmers are ill informed or MG has a low IQ is just rude.

Dear Silver Charm!

If QR has really Diabetes, believe me. she would have had during her pregnant time the best dr's in the world, which will have protected the children since there was born ( per Sono, Amniozentese= sorry don't know the english word for).

I have Astigmatism and Hyperopie( don't know the english word again for, sorry), but my mum havn't had diabetes and nothing with her blood. I must wear glasses too ( but I never do it).

Soo...

How old are Queen Rania's and King Abdullah's children. She hasn't uploaded any recent pictures of them on her homepage. I was quite surprised when I saw her children on the wedding, especially her son. He must be around seven. Think he will have his Mama's heights. B)

i know some people that are friends of my mother, they are jordanian and not only that the've worked side by side the royal family ,they've told me great thing about queen noor as a "mother",plus they've told me also that queen rania has Diabetes, people live with diabetes easly ,if they know how to handel it,my mom does
