The print/pattern and glitter does not suit QE, it seems to look odd on her.
Doesnt look like a cap, it looks like a wrap and the trimmings are from fur, its linned with silk

I adore this outfit, one of my all time favourites. :flowers:

I don't think there is a taboo on the wearing of black. Sometimes it looks nice.

This dress is stunning on HM, she looks wonderful. :)

Wow, cant say I've seen HM wear this much black outside of a funeral occasion. Although I love her in white, the black is really dramatic on Queen Elizabeth II. The Jewelry really is fantastic, I must say.

perfect figure

Is the guardian republican, monarchist, or neither? I love the photo of HM wearing the white dress in Australian. I never knew she had such a small waist. The 50's were a good year fashion wise for the Queen, then again, the 50's were good all round for fashion.
Hm the Queen had a beautiful figure-possibly the best of the royals everywhere with what is considered a true waist- twelve inches smaller than her chest. She was symmetrical and in proportion.
Hartnell showcased this but always chose the romantic Winterhalter look with crinolines and other things that suited this style which her mum had also adopted.
Earlier on we see a more beautifully attired Queen. Her complexion is still flawless if you look closely. She has been sensible, conservative; never wearing anything threadbare and has gained my respect as such. The Queen has made two fashion mistakes in her reign- one in the fifties with the "peep toe shoes" and nowadays with these "deep crown" hats which were originally designed for Diana because she was so tall.
They were meant to bring her into view- eye level by optical illlusion. The trend however has caught on and the Queen is now wearing these hats that are unbecoming compared to those that had lesser crowns and possibly no brim but veil. The crowns of these hats make anybody look like a Mack Sennett extra from the silent film era. They made Gloria Swanson shorter if that was possible.
Also I think the Queen should stop wearing red altogether. It is too hard on her colouring because the Queen is fair.
Except for those hats with the "deep crown" the Queen is attired elegantly and in beautifully textured materials representing what every great British lady should be.

Queen Elizabeth II accepts a posy of flowers from a young girl before she boards a First Capital Connect train at King's Cross Station on December 17, 2009 in London, England. The Queen will travel to King's Lynn in Norfolk before later travelling to Sandringham where she will spend christmas with her family.

not a fan of the outfit.

I just don't like her headscarf very much, but it's bitterly cold, she's an older woman and travelling. Her coat looks quite nice.

It's just a nice simple outfit but she's not on an official engagement so it's fine. Her shoes are so shiney!

The coat is part of a new outfit designed for the second day of her state visit to Slovenia in October last year. She wore it again for a Sunday morning service during her stay in Sandringham early this year and again now. I like the coat, specially because of the golden accent towards the lower part of the jacket. The hat, which normally combines the coat, is very attractive as well.

Thanks QueenElizabeth for that info. It's good to know that Her Majesty recycles her outfits like everyone else. :flowers:

Church visit in Sandringham, Dec 20th.

HM in a purple coat, great colour for her, plus stylish black boots.

So many of the royal "youngsters" should learn from a 80+ year old how to dress for the occasion.

Your quite right, Camilla wore a stunning purple outfit a few weeks back. :)
Her Majesty looks wonderful as always.

I just love HM in that shaed of blue....and those boots are wonderful!!!!

In fact, HM wears almost all her outfits over several years and sometimes 10 or 12 times or more. But she is very canny about where & when, so that we don't remember them. If you makes lists of what she wears, you'll find that, compared to the number of appearances she makes, she has very few brand new outfits per year. They tend to appear first at Ascot or maybe on a foreign tour, and then maybe not again for several months or even longer.

I didn't realize she recycled that much. It's obviously an effective tactic spreading them out longer because most people (including me) don't catch it then. That's one mistake the current princesses make is they wear the same frock too close together (within few months or even weeks). They should wait longer to wear it again so it won't be as noticeable and people won't say "oh she's wearing that again".

I suppose the Princesses wear more dateable fashions, however, whereas HM has pretty much dateless clothes which will be wearable for years (something Princess Anne seems to take to excess at times!!)

Yes, that's a good point. HM outfits are timeless classics. The Queen is very smart when it comes to her wardrobe. And so true about Princess Anne. She has worn outfits from 20 years ago!
:poinsettia:Happy Christmas!

I like how you can see HM wedding picture in the background on the right- The Queen looks happy!

The Queen looked absolutely Mahhhvelous! The only one in the bunch who got everything right. :crown4:

I agree. :flowers: From tip to toe everything is perfect here. And the Queen looked very festive in this shade of red!

The red coat looks great - I would not have thought red would have worked on the Queen due to her colouring but this really looks great. A wonderful outfit from top to toe.

HM does look wonderful. Her coat is quite stylish and I love her hat.

I agree The Queen was the best dressed out of the group. The youngins' could learn a thing or two.
