The Queen mother of Bhutan looks so young. How old is she? I didn't know that Beatrix would be so close to her.

The queen mother was born on December 20th 1957, which makes her 52. Note that she is not the actual mother of the present king. The former king of Buthan married 4 sisters. The present king is the son of the eldest of the sisters who married the king.

So either the caption was wrong or all four of them are called
Queen Mother as they are all married with the former king..

11-05-2010 The Hague: Queen Beatrix attended the global child
labour conference 2010 at the World Forum in The Hague.

The conference has 380 participants from 80 countries, like
Bangladesh, Brazil, South Africa , India and The Netherlands.

Queen Beatrix reacted with 'ontzetting' (shock/horror), when she heard the news about the crash of an Airbus of Afriqiyah Airlines near Tripoli, Libya, this morning. 103 people died, 61 of whom were Dutch. The only survivor is one child, who is treated at a hospital in Tripoli.

Thank you.

God those aircrashes are awful!

for the first time open to the public. The church has always been a
multipurpose building. During the week, she functioned as fair as city
music hall or auditorium for the awards.

I've been to the Nieuwe Kerk twice, its quite impressive & has a lot of Royal History .

Yes, she has several of these cape's with fur. The story goes that she saw them in a shop window of a shop in The Hague when she was on her carriage ride through the city at Prinsjesdag (opening of parlament), and the same day the court ordered several fo them in different colours. This was told in an interview by the parner of the man who owned the shop. The shop itself is now closed btw, but also Queen Juliana shopped there, as did much of the old money of The Hague.

Queen Beatrix is pictured hugging 1-year-old dog Milo who is trained
to be a guide dog. Queen Beatrix attended the celebrations for the
75th anniversary of the Royal Dutch Guide Dogs Fund (KNGF dogs)
in Amstelveen, May 26, 2010.

Mee too, and Beatrix obviously enjoyed that visit. Here are
some additional pics from ppe - one dog is cuter than the
other, and they've been so excited..:)

As to the caption Queen Beatrix also handed out an award of
10.000 Euro to the winner of an art contest for visually handicapped
people.

As you all can tell, I am new here. I am also somewhat new the whole "royal watcher" thing too. I've followed the British royals like most everyone else.

After spending the last couple of days on TRF, this is addictive, I have learned a lot about the other monarchies around the world. As of this moment, Queen Beatrix is my favorite royal. She appears to be so down to earth and warm and caring. Unlike her British counterpart, she even has a more relaxed hair style when she is with her family.

I'm so glad I found TRH.

Welcome on board, Duchess of Durham! I think you've made
a great choice for your new interest! :flowers:

This is an annual event on the beautiful Lange Voorhout avenue. The Queen always opens it. She was escorted by Silvia Toth (lady with the pillbox hat) and the other lady (with the small order on her outfit) is Maya Meijer, she organizes the event every year.

:previous: I love her suit. Thank you for posting the pics, Iceflower. And for your warm welcome.

I looked for books about Queen Beatrix at Barnes and Noble or Amazon and didn't find any. Any ideas of books I can buy about her or her family?
