Princess writes new book in honour of MR Kukrit

HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn is to launch her book "Thailand's Administration from Ayutthaya to Early Rattanakosin" in honour of MR Kukrit Pramoj, her late private lecturer.

The book is compiled from notes the princess made when she received private lessons from Kukrit more than two decades ago. He was Thailand's 13th premier, a scholar, great writer and the founder of Siam Rath newspaper.

"At that time I was still a student at Chulalongkorn University's faculty of arts," the princess writes in the preface. She goes on to say she had to adjust to a large classroom with more than 100 students after having become used to a small class where it was easier for students to ask questions.

The princess' enrolment to the university marked the first time that a high-ranking royal member received higher education in Thailand's state university. She also sat in the central university entrance exam like other students.

"There was no big problems when I was studying there except that I complained like a child about how difficult philosophy was. Therefore, Her Majesty the Queen invited Kukrit to be my private philosophy lecturer," the princess says.

I could say she may the only princess I know who seems careless with her looking appearance (almost no make up, simple dress and those almost very flat shoes) but actualy she had have a very nice looking young princess when she was young http://www.theroyalforums.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=164827&d=1120219133. http://www.theroyalforums.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=164818&d=1120218619. That makes her even more admirable. She was very pretty when she was young but has aged gracefully just like any other person. Sometimes we see people holding on to a fading youth with surgery, too much make up, strange hairdos. Is quite refreshing to see a Princess that is so confident of herself she does not need external appearances to shine, her intellect and personality are as good or better than layers of make up.

I do notice in other pictures she favors the yellow or golden colors in her dress code. Anyone knows if there is a meaning to that preference?

Yellow is the Colour for the Monday whcih is the HM the King's Birthday.
So the Queen and other princesses, even all thai people, wear yellow shirts for this occassion.

Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn will contribute the first Royal blog on a British Council website.

The blog - or Web log - will discuss Her Royal Highness' views about the teaching and learning of English in Thailand.
Visitors to the site will be able to post comments and messages. Her Royal Highness presided over a forum yesterday developing strategies to address long-term language-education needs in Thailand.
Called "Future Perfect: English-language policy for global transition", it attracted more than 400 language professionals and policy makers from all over Southeast Asia.
Organised by the council and the Education Ministry, it ex-plored key developments re-quired for Thailand to success-fully develop critical language skills in the next quarter century.
It mapped out an 18-month research project to develop a long-term language strategy. :)

HRH Princess Maha Chakri has blog

space.gif

The first royal blog by HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn is now available on the British Council website.

The princess's views about the teaching and learning of English in Thailand is a part of the blog called Future Perfect Conference held by British Council earlier this week to develop strategies to address longterm languageeducation needs in Thailand.

HRH Princess Sirindhorn writes: "We have witnessed in this past century that English has become a global language without much understanding of the process. Nor can we say that we really know the extent of its influence and status as the global language. But, we can be sure of one thing: English can be used as a key to better understanding. As English is used and understood globally, we should be able to communicate, learn and understand each other better. Through English, then, we can make this world more knowledgeable and more understanding." :flowers:

The blog can be accessed at http://access.britishcouncil.or.th.
