Thanks for posting that link Lucien. Is this an oficial site for the family? If it is I would have expected them to include some other members of the famly to (Queen Anne of Roumania comes to mind) and as it is the Ducal familyof Parma it would be appopriate if the text was available in Italian too.

HRH Princess Irene attended the opening of the exhibition
'Zeeuws Licht, Mondriaan in Domburg' at the Gemeentemuseum in The Hague on April 27th.

Hello Marengo

The part regarding history is in italian, the same for documents- news (resume' of visit to Republic of San Marino accomplished last year)

Thanks for pointing that out Zarat, I must have missed it. I always found it rather curious that the Bourbon-Parma's are profiled as being French or even Spanish before Italian, something which never happened to the Bourbon-Two-Sicilies who are in a simular position.

Well, the Princes and Princesses de Bourbon de Parme are practically invisible in Dutch society, with the notable exception of Margarita, of course.

But I agree, being a result of a marriage of HRH The Duke of Parma and HRH Princess Irene of the Netherlands, Princess of Orange-Nassau, Princess of Lippe-Biesterfeld will for sure have opened doors to them. But that is no difference for members of the family Heineken or Philips either. Charlène Heineken (daughter of the beer-magnate) or Warner Philips (son of the electronics mogul) will have experienced wide open doors as well, purely by the sound of their name.

Recent surveys have shown that also noble titles and names, in the oh so egalitarian (labelled) Netherlands does open doors wide. A Lady Myriam-Thérèse Countess de Marchant et d'Ansembourg applying for a job as solicitor will have much more chance than a Miss Annie Smith, so to say. Maybe it is scandalous, but theory is by far not always the practice, especially not in the Netherlands. To say it stronger: Lady Myriam-Thérèse most likely does not even need to apply: she will be asked via-via the social network.
very interesting. And I believe it. Still, I'm sure Jaime still is expected to put in the mileage like anyone else once these doors are opened.

My gosh, no matter her age, she always manages to remain the 'babe' (exusez le mot) of the four sisters, doesn't she! (though I have to say I'm glad her elder sister is the queen and not her!

Of all DRF memebers, I always wondered about him in particular the following: what does he do, or rather, did he do with his life? Besides trying for the Spanish throne before 1980? What did he do the decades after that? What are his interests? This is all none of my business, granted, but I'd still like to know!

He is retired now but he was a lecturer at the University of Brussels. The Prince still is president of the European Association for International Education.

I read in the new free daily newspaper 'Dag' that HRH Princess Irene will be involved with a television programme of the NCRV. The programme focusses on one immigrant each episode and tries to bring him/her into closer contact with nature.

that might turn out to be amusing, please let us know if possible at what time etc

Gossip magazine Prive had an article about Princess Irene this week. Apparently Carlos-Hugo de Bourbon-Parma, Irene´s ex-husband made the housekeeper pregnant while he was still married to Irene. The boy, Xavier, is only 7 years younger than Margarita.

Apparently the 4 Parma siblings later were expected to contribute financially for Xavier. According to the magazine Princess Margarita got into a fight with her sister Maria-Carolina about this (when Margarita questioned if she had to pay or not).

Saw the cover, but that is old news actually, one of the blabbermouth Margarita in a recent past.Remember, august is a silly month for news, even for rags.

Does Pss Irene live in the Netherlands again since her divorce. And do her children also? I'm sorry to be so out of touch about this, but you rarely read anything about them here - unless of course it is something scandalous!

I agree Lucien, they probably wanted to give some attention to Irene, as it was her birthday. Still I don t recall that Xavier was conceived while Irene and Carlos-Hugo were still married.

Irene lives in Wijk bij Duurstede, the Netherlands and she has a farm in South-Africa.

Her son Carlos is supposed to be a banker but I am not too sure. I don t know where he lives.

Jaime is into international relations etc. He used to be working with Eurocommissioner Neelie Kroes. He lives in Amsterdam with his partner. Jaime also worked as a diplomat in Afghanistan.

Margarita also lives in AMsterdam, is an interior designer and apparently has a shop called pearl design.

Maria-Carolina worked in refugee camps in Palestine, I am not sure what she is doing now or where she is living.

Thank you, Marengo.

I know that Pss Irene gave up her rights to the Dutch throne when she married Pr Hugo Carlos, and so none of her children will be in the succession. But I think I understood from an earlier posting that this family had been given some status within the Dutch nobility. Does this mean that they have something more than being members of a foreign non-reigning royal house - such a precedence at official functions?

They are incorperated into the Dutch nobility, as the last ones I believe as it is not possible anymore. They are now officially HRH Princes de Bourbon Parme.

It won´t make much difference for official functions. I believe that officially they should have precedence over the sons of Princess Margriet, who are ´just´ HH´s and not HRH´s but in practise the family doesn´t pay much attention to such things.

Thought Carlos lives in Brussels too.

Jaime is still adviser to EU Commisioner Neelie Kroes afaik, and at the dutch Foreign Office.By the latter he was stationed at the dutch embassies in Iraq and Afghanistan as he is a specialist in conflict management.
Jaime and his father were also invited to the contra reception by HM during last years State Visit to Belgium:

Maria-Carolina still works for the UN and is stationed, mostly,in conflict areas,Gaza,Westbank,Darfur. One brave Lady I would say,and passionate about her work and mission, and very discreet.

Behind the King we can also see Carlos jr. I think.

You are right on Jaime,he doesn't work for Neelie Kroes anymore and is stationed at the Foreign Office again after being detached to the office of the euro comissioner for two years. His successor at the commissioners office is Jean-Philippe Monod de Froideville, son of the former Master of Ceremonies of the Royal House. At 65,the latter has started his Protocol International agency, advising the corporate world, authorities and institutions on protocol and ceremonial issues.

Dutch Avro tv started a new series of "Hoge bomen".On wednesday september 12th it will be air a portrait of Irene.

Princess Irene recently said to a magazine (forgot which one, will try to look it up) that she has never talked to trees at all, she never said she had either but that is what the media made of her book ´Dialoge with Nature´.

but she did say in a speech to some dutch owl protection society that she communicated with mice and they then left her house so she did not have to result in more harsh measures (and the mice then went to the neighbours homes who do not have her powers ;))

Well, I suppose ´communicating´ is different from talking, I mean, some people have mice as pets, if they give the mouse a little stroke on the back and the mouse reacts to that, I suppose you can call it communication?

you mean she perhaps patted them on the head and thought "run along now (out of this house)":ROFLMAO:
