Oh please, Haya has never shown the least interest in tennis or anything other then horse-racing.

No but that is no different from many other royals who are not really interested in the events they are attending. It's their job. Haya does what she's told to do by her husband, as simple as that. It's an international tournament so it's handy to send the international wife for the trophy presentation who is a woman what certainly attracts a wider publicity than one of Mo's sons would at a women tennis tournament. Besides, I doubt Haya has a deeper interest in the zillions of other things that are on her agenda, apart from anything that has to do with horses, of course.

My point is not that Haya is not suitable or able to present a trophee. I think she is.
My point is that Haya has never before attended this tournament and that the first time she does appear happens to coincide with an international row about the Dubai government forbidding an Israeli tennis player to play. I think these 2 things could be connected (Indeed, I also think Elvis is still alive).
I hope this clears things up. I'm sure Haya is interested in many things and that she is more then able to handle out a trophee at an international tennis tournament.:flowers:

i think one of her interest is tennis as read somewhere;she mentioned Andre Agassi as one of her idols.

It's great to see Princess Haya to be more active a lot lately. Thank you everyone for the photos of her. She looks so beautiful.:flowers:

No Bettina, you are dissembling. By writing in your post "She is even posing with a black, American girl" [my bolding] you made a crude attempt to introduce a colour-based racial agenda where none exists, except perhaps in your imagination.

Most people would have simply said that Haya was photographed with Venus Williams without feeling the need to place emphasis on the colour of her skin.

Venus turns 29 in June. She is a woman, not a girl.

thanks salma , she looks great. the sleeves are chiffon :)

gosh!!!! until i saw the full body pic i honestly thought that venus stood on a podium!!! ok venus is kind of a tank but haya must be incredibly tiny and it shows when she's not around her husband or the arab community (who are usually rather tiny in comparison).

From what I've read before Princess Haya is around 5' 4". Venus Williams is around 6' 1". That said, I didn't realize the gap between their heights were huge! (And Haya must be wearing low-heeled shoes, to say the least!).

She is even posing with a black, American girl, to show the western media UAE doesn't judge people on their gender, nationality or colour. Yeah right!

With all due respect Haya did not have a hand on who would win the tournament. It wouldn't matter if an Asian or a Slavic girl won; the only thing Haya could do there was show up and present the trophy.

While we all agree to disagree here, the way you wrote your last sentence implies that it was a deliberate decision to put in "a black, American girl" just so they can have something for show. And that's a disgrace to the efforts Venus made to win the tournament.

Yes Warren, I know I was being provocative and exagerating. My post was not intended to be taken literally and I didn't realise it was such a touchy subject. So if you feel offended by it, then sorry.

Anything with a hint of racism is always a touchy subject. Venus is a worldclass athlete and that would have been a less racist way of portraying her.

It has been mentioned in a few posts that Haya is being more active and that this is good. Haya may be being more active because of the "problems" Dubai and Sheikh Mohammed are facing. I would be more active if I was Haya.

you mean economic problem right?

Mo is a supporting lifeline for Jordan in terms of money. If he sneezes, King Abdullah will get a cold, so to say. Haya can only do very little but she's not only the ruler's wife but also a Princess from Jordan, so not only one but two reasons to do some promotion.

Yes Xavi83, I meant economic problems. The Duke Of Marmalade's post sums this up well from the Jordan side. I would only add that there are likely to be pressures within Emirati society on all Dubai royals and Haya does not have family links, apart from via marriage. Again, more reasons to be active.

I wonder who will award winners of Men's Open? I suppose Haya can't make it again..Or not? Is it some kind of unwritten rule that woman awards woman and man award man? Or it isn't important at all?

If im not miastaken the past year it was one of Sheikh Mohammeds son, Maktoum or Ahmed who awarded the men. Im not too sure how it works, women award women thing etc.

Australia's women's rugby team receives the trophy from Princess Haya bint al-Hussein (C), Jordanian wife of Dubai ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashed al-Maktoum, after winning the Rugby World Cup Sevens in the Gulf emirate of Dubai on March 7, 2009. Australia beat New Zealand 15-10 to claim the women's title.

the first pic in the last post...
She looks better then ever! What a gorgeous woman!

Beautiful new dress. I like the colour.

Thanks for the pictures. Haya really looks nice at this event, the thoub is beautiful, the hair looks neat and she looks really happy. Interesting she is not wearing a wife scarf around her neck as she usually does at event in Dubai and wearing a thoub.

dress is cute. makeup is too heavy. she looks really old in the headshot photos.
