Princess Caroline's current and former homes

that sounds like the place where Charlotte will be having her coming of age ball

Yes it is, she bought La Vigie about a month ago and she's going to live there. There's something I noticed and called my attention, Paris Match and Hola said she decided to move so that she could be closer to her family after spending a lot of time living in Germany, but I've always thought she lived in Fontainebleau. At least this is where Charlotte and Pierre live, and I thought Caroline lived with them in France...

laura_barnes i've read the same thing many time too that Caroline and her adorable kids have been living in Fontainbleau for a while now....I think she has been moving between there and Germany since her marriage ^___^

If I interpret the text under the picture correctly, she has sold this house?

... I don't 'see' how she would be lacking the brains (nor having need for cash flow) to sublet the house when she's not in town? Or, is it in Monaco ... a "posh" thing to do .... to 'see' how much foolish tourists are willing to pay?

I'm sorry if I'm saying here something false or inaccurate, but I read quite a few years ago, that La Vigie has always been owned by the Grimaldis, and that Caroline had just lent/rented it to Lagerfeld for a 99years period, but that eventually he left Monaco and gave the villa back.
My hypothesis is that Caroline is not moving from Clos St Pierre (and why should she? Her home is wonderful as well) and that these rumors just started because she's apparently organizing a party for her daughter...my opinion is due to the fact that in the last four or five years I've read in various mags that Caroline was moving to LaVigie at least three or four times; mind you, this time it might well be true, but I'm becoming quite suspicious :p
BTW, I've been to Monaco and I can tell you that LaVigie is one of the finest estates I've ever seen so if she's really moving in, I can just say "Good move!"
Kisses everyone

Ernst is from the Royal House of Hannover, but he is also a prince of Great Britain and Ireland... Hannover is a city in Germany now, it used to be a Kingdom before Prussia took it over, but it is in Germany now.
The Royal House is Welf/Guelph. Hannover is/was the territory.

Charles is a full royal. There can only be full royals, so there is no matter of blood.

Ernst's family was officially deprived of the British titles by the reigning and recognized dynasty in Great Britain and Ireland.

Yes, I was trying to be funny about EA having more royal blood than Charles... "ha ha"

Caroline doesn't live in Clos St Pierre, she lives in Manoir du Mée, in Mée sur Seine, near Fontainebleau. In the link below you can see a special from Hola magazine about Caroline and Ernst's homes. It's in Spanish but I find it really interesting.

Even if he did, he sure makes good use of it by being a pig...

Are you telling me Caroline owns all these places??? O__O

HOLY MACORONIS >___________<

Of course she owns them all, how else would she find space to hide all of Ernst's illegitimate children by philipino barmaids?

wellll ....

....actually Princess Caroline owns the French ones
... and Prince Ernst owns the German and Austrian ones
.... and they share the ownership of the closets ! ;)

Does he really have illegitimate children?
just as many as she does. ;)

George V changed the law so that the only princes and princesses of Great Britain these days are descendents of the monarch for two generations in the male line, so although Ernst is a descendent of George III, that wouldn't be enough to make him a prince of the United Kingdom. As long as Caroline is Catholic (she is Catholic, isn't she?), marriage to her would have removed him from the line of succession to the British throne too.

I believe this to be true. The description of the house matches photos taken by Lagerfeld at "his house," when Caroline posed with her children and Stefano. It was an interesting contrast as the article showed them in this absolutely gorgeous setting and then at Roc Agel in Grace's turquoise, fraying kitchen....... Actually, they looked happier and more relaxed there!

I think that is true...i heard that the Grimaldis own like almost every significant building in Monte Carlo like the casino, malls and stuff...

I found this great thread while doing some cleaning. Thought I'd bump it up. Those castles really are amazing.

:) I would love to get the catalog for this auction!

Princess Caroline's stepsons to sell heirlooms

18 April 2005

HANOVER - Two stepsons of Monaco's Princess Caroline are selling EUR 12 million worth of Royal House of Hanover heirlooms, the German branch of Sotheby's announced on Monday.

The art auctioneers quoted Prince Ernst August, 21, and Prince Christian, 19, as saying they would use the proceeds to maintain two stately homes that are both open to the public.

Their father, Prince Ernst August, 51, was recently admitted to a Monaco hospital with pancreatitis.

The elder Ernst August, who divorced the mother of the two young princes and later married the glamorous Princess Caroline, transferred some of his property to Ernst August junior last year.

The 29 September to 8 October sales at Marienburg Palace near Hildesheim in Germany will clear attics and basements of some 5,000 unused items of furniture, glassware, silver, china and paintings from the Royal House of Hanover collections.

Sotheby's said none of the items, gathered in from German and Austrian homes, was subject to export restrictions. The princes would devote some of the proceeds to creating a family trust to maintain Marienburg and the Herrenhausen royal palace and museum in Hannover.

Why wouldnt they just sell one of their homes & downsize. If there's trouble maintaining the castles now chances are after the 12 million Euros run out there will be trouble maintaing them then too. Either that or this is a big garage sale for them.

do they actually live in those castles? wouldn't it be bleak and old? i guess if they have renovated the castles and have modern facilities it would be okay, but do they live there? and one more thing, wasn't it haunted or believed to be so, after so many generations?

Yes, they live in various homes at different times of the year. Marienberg is the family seat. Extended family members tend to live at Schloss Calenberg. Winter getaways at the Austrian properties. Holidays in the Kenyan and Croatian properties. Conflicting reports as to whether the London house has been sold or not.

No grand castle would be complete without the portraits of the ancestors, and a haunting ghost in residence.
.

Does anybody know if Ernst's sons still live with their mother in London? If they do it doesn't seem logical for Ernst to have sold his London home as surely he would want somewhere to stay when he visits them?
