Prince Rainier & Grace Kelly: 19 April 1956

And yet, by the time of Grace's tragic and untimely death attitudes had completely changed.

Every single Royal House in Europe was represented at her funeral.

Grace was, imo, the most transcendentally beautiful Royal/Princely bride ever. No one has been able to touch her in the 60+ years since that wedding, even though quite a few have tried.:whistling:

I read that just a few royals attended this wedding:

Aga Khan - HH Prince Karim
Egypt - HM King Farouk II
Great-Britain - HRH Prince Edward, Duke of Windsor (former King Edward VIII)
Italy - HM King Umberto II

(Both the Egyptian and the Italian monarchs were exiled at that time). The European Royal Families were represented.

I didn't know the Duke of Windsor attended but most certainly he was not representing the BRF and was simply a guest if he did indeed attend.

Grace Kelly interviewed about her wedding plans at Idlewild Airport in 1956

Princess Grace’s headwear.
Not a new story, but it’s nice to be reminded of this gorgeous bride.

Does anyone know what the wedding cake flavor was? I've tried to find information on it but to no avail.

The official documentary of Grace and Rainier’s wedding … in two parts … filmed by MGM.

The music and narration seem dated now, but the footage is wonderful.

A slim, young Grace in her gown, with a brilliant red sash/train, wandering around her soon to be Palace home, lots of wonderful scenes.

Presented as a real-life fairytale … and in those days, that’s what people thought such things were.

So gorgeous and truly seen as a fairytale initially!

It’s lovely to be reminded of what a beautiful, elegant bride Grace was. It certainly looks like a fairytale occasion, but so much I have read in various biographies, including interviews with those present for the wedding nuptials, tell a different story including a type of press intrusion which sadly these days has become the norm.

Yes Elly C, I’ve read a bit about that at different times … and the difficult situations Grace sometimes found herself in throughout the following years.

I enjoyed this though for the 1950s glamour and the escapism it must have offered the average women … I don’t think men find this sort of thing that interesting … at the time.

I’m not that much into fashion/clothing, but what elegance, especially the wedding party.

I was actually looking for another documentary when I came upon this, but I will post about that in the Monaco thread.

Poor Grace also found herself dealing with family politics , a mother in law who did not like her and maybe also her sister in law.
