While M&F were wrapping up their trip to Mexico, Joachim and our Marie took part in a charity dinner for the Diabetis Association at a hotel near the town of Gråsten: Royal aften på Benniksgaard - Lokalavisen Sønderborg

A nice gallery.

106.000 DKK were raised for the association, which in Danish terms is pretty good!

The guest lists is basically a who's who of Southern Jutland.

The reason for Joachim and our Marie kissing and drowning in each other's eyes was that Joachim as patron for the Diabetis Association was the guest of honor at a charity dinner at Hotel Benniksgaard in Souther Jutland. Naturally he brought his Marie.
During the dinner a couple of speeches were held in which Joachim was praised sky high, visibly embarassing Joachim. - And apparantly Marie thought that was so cute she decided to kiss him. - Joachim clearly didn't mind...
Aww, ain't that sweet? :p

If you think you can't handle more romantic pics of M&J, look no further.

This simply calls for a song, eh? :D

I suggest you listen to this while gorging yourself with the pictures posted here and by Fairy Tale :flowers::

Marie is a beautiful woman, but she never seems relaxed for a single moment. If one looks at her holiday pics with the children or at photos from her official duties, her face has always the same stressed expression. I hope this is her tribute to the photo situation and not her "natural condition".

"Little" Henrik is so big. He has really grown a lot. Marie is so beautiful.

A two minutes clip from the local news, at 29:58 tvsyd.dk

Bette Henrik darted out to the waiting car ahead of his family.
Joachim and our Marie talked about how they mix Danish and French Christmas traditions.
I won't go into details, it's bedtime here.
Perhaps some of our French members can suggest French traditions you would find very likely that Marie has brought with her?

Billed Bladet has of course covered the Schackenborg's going to the Christmas fair, very well, not to mention M&F and their children to the Christmas concert.

Read for yourself here: https://app.box.com/s/lsywgp8rzk114sqa43p0

You may of course quote from the article if you wish to comment, but the board rules prohibits the whole article from being posted here.

As you can read Athena didn't feel that safe with Santa Claus around and she held on to our Marie's leg... hard! https://app.box.com/s/rcmmsalcg6aqxctmt5ri

But she also appears to be a bit of a petrolhead like her dad. She certainly lit up, when she was placed behind a steering wheel: https://app.box.com/s/1vspvxxd2aimx7cx0ovq :D

Summary of article in Billed Bladet #7, 2014.
Written by Trine Larsen.

Recently Joachim brought his two oldest sons, who appear to be petrolheads like their dad, to the Danish Technical Museum in the town of Helsingør, where they were top open the exhibition The History of the Racing Sport en Miniature.
The host so to speak, was the racing driver Thorkild Thyrring and he gathered a large collection of Scalextric racing tracks, delighting all three boys from Schackenborg.
Felix and Nikolai were each presented with a Porche leMans car, with their names on. Felix said: "We too have a track like that at home, but not as large".
And Joachim added: "I collected Scalextric when I was a boy. That was the most fantastic thing you could wish for Christmas and birthdays".
And then Joachim is taken completely aback when a woman almost tried to thrust her baby in his arms while she takes a snapshot.
Somewhat baffled Joachim declines: "Sorry, out of principle I don't hold other people's babies". But he does pose next to the woman, who is holding her own brood.

- Sometimes... There will no doubt be those who will think Joachim was arrogant in the way he declined and that he could have handled it more elegantly but what was the poor man to do? He is after all royal.

Personally, I think it was rather stupid of the woman to even try. No matter who it is, to try and push your child into someone's arms just seems "off" to me. He did the best he could in a rather uncomfortable, for him, situation.

Well, it certainly was an uncomfortable situation. But IMO Joachim always comes across as arrogant - even if you don't try to thrust your baby into his arm.
His brother, although royal, can handle such situations much better.

Prince Joachim as Patron of the Wadden Sea Centre and Princess Marie as Patron of the Danish National Commission for UNESCO hosted a reception at Schackenborg Castle today, August 4, 2014, where about 100 guests from home and abroad marked that UNESCO included the Wadden Sea on its World Heritage list.

I don't recall this event at all. But here is Joachim and our Marie visiting the village Breininge on the very scenic island of Ærø earlier this year.

Thanks, Iceflower. :flowers:

A nice little text. Seems like Athena stole the show and she was most interested in the horses! Perhaps a new rider in the DRF has emerged?

I'm not sure about the boys though. No steering wheel on these things and where is the clutch?

ADDED: Here is a BT gallery of the Hubertus Hunt: http://www.bt.dk/danmark/se-billederne-hubertusjagt-i-dyrehaven#slide-1
As you can tell the favorite among the audience is the pond the riders have to go through. This year one fell in - and got applauded for her shall we say, ordeal.

ADDED: Notice this pic: http://b.bimg.dk/node-images/858/7/x2048-u/7858480-hubertusjagt-i-dyrehaven.jpg
The focus is on bette Henrik, but you can see Felix' hand next to Athena's hair, so I guess lil-sis is getting her share of attention as well.

Always fun to see this event (in pics)
Usually its Henrik in charge, did he not attend this year?

:previous: From the pictures, it looks like you're having a beautiful autumn in Denmark. Very pretty countryside, too.

Nice to see Athena out and about.

I see in one of the pics that Nikolai is holding Athena's hand.

This is a nice pic of our Marie: http://royalista.com/wp-content/ima...lix_prince-henrik_children_culture--h=500.jpg

Yes, the trees have now decided to shed the last leaves - that keeps those of us with a garden and downspouts occupied...

Some say November is the most depressing month in DK. I don't agree, the Christmas lunches are coming up at the end of this month.
February is depressing though. By then the winter has lasted long enough and you are getting stir crazy. :frazzled:

Summary of article in Billed Bladet #45, 2014.
Written by our equestrian reporter Helle Skram de Friis.

Because Prince Henrik was in China, it was Joachim and our Marie who represented the DRF this year at the Hubertus Hunt, where some 33.000 people had turned up in Dyrehaven north of Copenhagen.
The Hubertus Hunt has taken place on the first Sunday in November since 1900.
Joachim has actually taken part in a mounted hunt, but that was 23 years ago.
While the boys didn't look that impressed with one hp horses racing, it was another thing with Athena, she was most interested in the horses.
Felix and Nikolai were seen being the attentive older brothers to Athena and bette Henrik.
Athena also appears to be the only DRF child with brown eyes, as you can see for yourself in one the links below:

Thursday evening Joachim and our Marie returned to Schackenborg to watch amateur theater about Hans Schack who got Schackenborg as a fief and who in 1651 forced the locals, pretty heavy-handedly to build the manor:
Prins Joachim og prinsesse Marie så egnsspil på Schackenborg | Billed Bladet
Even though the weather was great last night, Marie was sensibly attired in a coat.

A gallery from the play: http://www.jv.dk/modules/jv/gallery/?articleId=2040522
For the historically interested, the peasants wear what was every-day clothes of the period, except that their hair is too neat (male peasants at the time were notorious for having long unkempt hair).
Since before the Viking age, unmarried girls wore their hair without a scarf in their sparetime and also when working when it was practical, while married women always wore a headscarf or some sort of bonnet.

Wooden shoes were not yet common.
