Prince and Princess Hitachi attended the official dinner of the Praemium Imperiale Prize at the Luxembourg Palace in Paris on July 16, 2014.

Yesterday, July 17, Prince and Princess Hitachi visited an exhibition dedicated to French painter Martial Raysse at the Centre Pompidou contemporary art centre in Paris.

The Prince and Princess Hitachi presided over the 26th ceremony for the Praemium Imperiale Awards in Tokyo today, October 15, 2014. The Praemium Imperiale is awarded in the five disciplines of painting, sculpture, architecture, music and theatre/film.

Prince and Princess Hitachi attended the annual autumn memorial service at Tokyo's Chidorigafuchi National Cemetery on October 17, 2014. The cemetery is the national Japanese cemetery for unknown war dead in the World War II.

Prince Hitachi opened an art exhibition by disabled people at Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre on December 10:

On January 25 Prince and Princess Hitachi were present at the opening ceremony of the Chubu Ski Championships in Nanto, Toyama.

Princess Hitachi presided over the award ceremony for the 27th Praemium Imperiale Awards in Tokyo today, October 21. It seems Prince Hitachi wasn't present this year.

Princess Hitachi's solo appearance is not surprising. Prince Hitachi looked frail on some photos.
On a different notes, Princess Hitachi's dress is lovely.

Prince and Princess Hitachi were in France as Prince Hitachi was awarded the Grand Prize of the Charter of Paris against cancer on February 1, 2016.

Advanced age, he's 80 and probably can't stand or walk for long periods. He's still pretty active though.

At his birthday last year, this article stated "Due to his advanced age, the prince now carries out his official duties in a wheelchair.
To maintain his physical strength, the prince walks along the corridors of his residence in Tokyo’s Shibuya Ward and exercises on cycling machines, according to the Imperial Household Agency."
 
On July 13th, Princess Hanako attended a special art exhibition at Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi.

On July 14th, the IHA announced Princess Hanako will enter Nissan Koseikai Tamagawa Hospital on the 15th for hip surgery on the 16th. After experiencing pain and discomfort, the Princess was diagnosed with osteoarthritis on both sides after medical exams in May and June. She is expected to be discharged in about a month.

On September 8th, Princess Hanako attended the opening ceremony of the "Japan Ikebana Art Hokkaido Exhibition" in Sapporo, Hokkaido. She is honorary president of the Japan Ikebana Art Association. This is the princess' first public service since hip surgery for osteoarthritis in July.

Princess Hanako visited Nagasaki Prefecture October 14-15 to attend the 29th National Health and Welfare Festival Nagasaki tournament's opening ceremony (Nenrinpikku Nagasaki 2016), which is open to players 60 years and older. About 1 million people (players, coaches, etc.) are expected for the four day tournament, ending on the 18th. There are 26 events (table tennis, golf, shogi, etc.) held in 15 cities of the prefecture. The oldest participant is a 100-year-old Go player from Aomori Prefecture.

Princess Hanako laid flowers at the atomic bombing monument in Matsuyama-cho, visited the Nagasaki National Peace Memorial Hall for Atomic Bomb Victims, and visited the prefecture museum in Dejima-cho.

On December 14th, Prince and Princess Hitachi attended an exhibition of art created by people with disabilities at the Tokyo Arts Theater. The exhibition is in its 35th year and features 152 pieces selected from 1,500 paintings and photographs this year.

Princess Hanako visited Gifu Prefecture January 22-23 to attend the opening ceremony of "Honmozonomiya Naka Nippon Ski Games" in Gujo City. She also watched the cross country competition. Prince Hitachi did not attend due to his need for wheelchairs.
