They both looked great!

I'm looking forward to a common engagement of the Queen, Kate and Meghan together like Kate did a few years ago with the Queen and the DoC.

They look amazing together and Natural. I am so happy for them. Love her style.

As an American I know that some of our fashions can be over the top but, her style ( not too trendy) but Classic looks that really don't go out of style & Just Elegant.

I love how they reassure each other with the taps or pat on the backs. I know that after they get married and on Official Offical tours, that may have to stop. But for right now loving it.

I have never seen harry this happy since his childhood.

Why would it be that it may have to stop?

They did great. In a way it reminded me of the excitement around the Prince of Wales' and Lady Diana's early walkabouts--lots of people getting in on the excitement. I do think that there is a lot of good will for Harry, and by extension, Meghan, whom he clearly adores. I hope people don't assume that she won't need time to adjust just because she was an actor. She is clearly outgoing and comfortable in public but that doesn't mean she can jump in with both feet right away. As for protocol--as has been reported above, there isn't really any aside what would be appropriate for any couple in a public situation. They weren't glued to each other, but they kept connected. It was nice to see. William and Kate are very different people, more reserved, more cautious perhaps and therefore they act slightly differently in public but you still see them connecting with one another. I don't care if she never wears her hair back--she wants to look good and feel comfortable and she will make choices based on that. All in all, a good day for them.

Dickie Arbiter tweeted out that he's been getting a lot of questions about whether or not they broke protocol by being tactile. He says there really isn't any protocol on this. It's whatever the couple feels comfortable with.

I really think William, Kate, Harry, and Meghan will be very formidable force for good. The couples are different. William and Kate are more formal in public, and Harry and Meghan appears to be more comfortable with being tactile. They are both good, and it's fitting for the roles they will be performing. It'll give people just enough to both styles.

It seems like second nature to them and also it seems like their way of comforting each other. Their is a lovely photo on Getty of them in the car and they are still holding hands.

The anticipation of their first outing together.......a home run first time up. Each step was so natural and easy. I don’t know what’s better, their joy or the crowds. You can feel the happiness. Truly a special moment.

Thanks everyone for the photo links and videos - it's been a special day, not only for Harry & Meghan but also for members of the British public who for the first time have been able to see Meghan at first hand.

I hope that anyone who might have worried how people would react to Meghan in the UK will see that she'll be well looked after and greatly appreciated by the people!

Indeed. It definitely seems like what Camilla said, America's loss is UK's gain in this case.

However, UK is giving her a much bigger platform to live up to her full potential and affect change. Can't argue with that. :flowers:

BTW, does anyone know why royals can't take selfies?

I loved the way Megan continued to shake peoples hands , after the visit was over , and left Harry sat in the car.:flowers:

There was a child there. There is a picture of her shaking a child's hand through the railing because the child can't reach above it. It was so adorable.

What? Do we have video of that? Harry left her side? May not have been as odd as it initially sounds.

King Felipe and Queen Letizia have taken selfies.

But most royals shun away from that. It's associated with celebrities and they want to distance themselves from that since they want to be seen to be above celebrity.

I'm with them on this. Selfies are annoying.

It was on the ITV news here in the UK. Sorry I can't upload it for you , but you may be able to find it on their website .:flowers:

Harry didn't leave her side, Meghan left his, to shake a few more hands. It was a magnificent day today. I just loved it all from start to finish. It's given me a real lift seeing Harry and Meghan welcomed in that way and how happy they are together.

This is what I got on their site, with video embedded in article: Prince Harry and Meghan Markle visit Nottingham in first official engagement together - ITV News

What I see is that she had to go around the car where the crowd was so I can see that faced with the people she just (naturally) responded to the people calling to her, but she seems to have gotten into the car fairly quickly. She left Harry 'waiting' all of maybe 5 seconds (if that). The situation would have been reversed had Harry been the one to walk around the car where the crowd was. So I understand. (I couldn't imagine Meghan doing something blatantly rude to Harry, which it sounds like initially, but I see that was not what was happening). :flowers:

No. They were walking to the car, but were getting in on different sides. Harry got in, but Meghan stopped on her way to the other side to shake two children's hands.

True, that is the moment. And that's why it pays off to have a look first (as you did ;))

Harry has grown up so much and he has a warm woman by his side. I bet he can't wait until he's married!

It sometimes happens, but generally I think it is a case of "do one selfie do them all" and it's more time consuming than a quick handshake.

Exactly. Not to mention being intrusive. JMO.

Ha, that makes sense.

It took them about half an hour to get through the walk about (I think they were reporter it took longer than anticipated), I can only imagine if everyone wanted a selfie.

Really nice to see Meghan there today as well, she seemed to do a great job. I love this photo of her with the little boy.

I'm so happy their first engagement was such a success. Absolutely brilliant. Meghan is natural with the crowds. I'm also happy, how exited the people were, how much positive feedback they both received. Meghan and Harry truly worked as a team, together.

I'm happy to see Meghan announce the engagement and immediately get to work...it gives me hope. Everyone is talking about it being a successful engagement and I just have to wonder has there ever been any unsuccessful first time engagements? If all the newly engaged have good first time outings then why would Meghan's be different?
I will say I liked the few American flags; makes me think they accept her.

I kinda feel like people are saying the whole "successful" thing because as far as royal engagements go - this was a smash hit.
