The visit is also beginning to reach the Danish papers. It's forenoon here right now.

You know the drill by now: "Se stort billede" = hi-res picture.

Here from the BBQ party where Mary headed straight for a Danish sausage/hotdog stand where she said: "I'd like a hotdog please".
Apparantly that surprised everyone - and the Australian police officers present jumped in after Mary and formed a line at the stand.

The stand had been flown in from Copenhagen.
Such hotdog stands are a part of the picture in every Danish town with a bit of selfrespect. And you may recall that such a stand delivered the midnight snack at Joachim and our Marie's wedding and later on at another party, can't remember which.

This is the first time Danish commerce have allied themselves with representatives of Danish culture as well as the DRF in providing a total experience for potential customers in this export offensive to Australia.

Muhler, I will say Frederik shone in his own way and made just as much an impression on me as Mary.

His quiet, confident, gracious manner won me over. Your country is in fine hands ( even if you took Mary from us :flowers:)

I got talking to a couple different police officers and one commented on the level of protection accorded to the royal couple. M & F are in very safe hands. We'll look after them for you.

I've had a great day. Thank you for your interest. Will keep sending links as more interesting articles/photos come to hand.

I wish I didn't have to work I would love to see the royal couple.
I think Mary is lovely and she is doing an amazing job,so proud of our Mary.

They were creating energy enough to make two fruit-smoothies.

- Interesting idea! And probably healthy too. - If you can create chips and licorise that way as well, we will definitely get two of them thingies in the Muhler home! - Oh, yeah, add kanelsnegle = cinnamon swirls to the list as well...:p

Wonderful! A reporter put back in their place by the 'topic of conversation' herself. And done so in a very lighthearted and cheeky manner which is rather adorable, imo. A wonderful moment caught on camera.

Mary appears to become quite relaxed when back in Australia, so much so, she'd even tap a journalist on the shoulder and correct them in a way that is imo, typical of an Australian. Be it even if only nowadays at heart.

Mary simply grows ever more fabulous! She has such a lovely way about her, she looks wonderful, and she and Frederik share a light touch that makes them so appealing together.
 
There were two segments on TV2 news at 19.00 tonight.

A pretty long one, covering the Bondi event from the view of the onlookers and a very brief interview with M&F about how they had been recieved.
Frederik was asked whether he felt like JFK. Who, as you may recall, at some point almost meekly pointed out that he was the husband. - Frederik didn't feel like that however, but he was pleased with the welcome Mary in particular had been recieved with.
Then the weather forecast. It's November with a very big N, right now here in DK! And no, we are not the least bit envious of you Aussies and the weather you have. Not at all, perish the thought. (There is an outside chance this was irony...).
The closing segment was the photoshoot outside the Governor General's house, with Josephine and Vincent.

This clips should surface in a couple of hours.

Mary was asked initially about how it feels to be recieved like this, and searching a bit for the words, she replied that it was lovely and that the interest in their family is heartwarming.
Frederik was simply pleased with focus on the Crown Princess and that they (the Australians) still considered her one of their own".

The next question a few seconds later is directed at Frederik, where he is asked whether he feels like JFK. Laughingly he responds that he is married to the Crown Princess and that is all that matters to him. Mary rewarded him with a pad on his back.- (You are allowed to swoon now, ladies :wub::p)

Just as a matter of interest for those of you who don't know. We have many women in high profile jobs here. Our Prime Minister is a woman - Julia Gillard, (not seen on day 1). Our Governor General of Australia - a woman - Quentin Bryce [ she is the Queens representative], seen with Mary is the Mayor of Sydney - Clover Moore. And Mary will see later in the week the State Governor Marie Bashir. Whom she and Fred have met on many occasions.

:previous: Well JFK was quite pleased with Jackie's reception in France and later Texas, so perhaps Frederik is a little bit like JFK ;) (minus a few things, obviously...)

I doubt we'll get photos from the official dinner dazz, as usually in Australia media are only given access to government dinners which are held in Canberra. And as the 'main players' were already inside Admiralty House before the dinner, I doubt many photographers would have stayed around/been allowed to stay past the photo call in the afternoon. The only chance of having photos from the dinner would be if some were uploaded to the Governor-General's website.

That Mary should feel as though she still, dare I suggest, 'fits in' and 'belongs' must be something rather important to her. And understandably so, for this country makes up a very large part of who she is and what she stands for. She is by all means Danish, be it with an Australian twist.

A man who clearly understands and appreciates the very large role his wife's homeland continues to play, and no doubt always will, throughout her life and indeed, that of their family's.

I don't for one moment think Frederik at all cares that this turbo prince has the ability to miraculously transform into a designer tote when visiting these shores (worthy of a paragraph under 'Honours' on the Crown Princely website you think? :D)

He's not at all egotistical and that, if you ask me, is something that I consider heartwarming.

Prince Philip did something similar a few month back. That filmclip is most likely still accessible. It was such a hit it was perhaps worth repeating.
 
The only advantage of being up this late is that I get to see these pictures early rather than in the morning.

It's nice of Mary and Frederik To go to Australia. With the kids? And surely Mary must stop by seeing her parents.
 
Was watching The morning show on tele - they all loved Mary's white outfit and wondered who designed it ? Does anyone know ? :)
 
I of course don't know, but I'd imagine John and Susan to be in Denmark looking after Christian and Isabella atm, and will fly out together when the official program has concluded.

Naturally, Vincent and Josephine needed to accompany their parents and are well cared for by the appropriate members of staff whilst Frederik and Mary undertake their official engagements.

* Also, the barge used by Frederik and Mary on Sydney Harbour is the same barge which was used by Queen Elizabeth and the Duke of Edinburgh in Canberra last month.

Thank you so much for your first hand report and pictures. It means so much more to report the "real" scene.

Your mention of Frederik reminds me of my "spotting" of M&F in NYC last month. I was really just waiting to see Mary and was unprepared at how Frederik really impressed me more with his natural charm and charisma, ease and good looks of course.:flowers:

Two articles about Mary revealing the new name for Westmeade Cancer Care Centre, which is now Crown Princess Mary Cancer Centre Westmead.

The cancer centre has for a number of year cooperated closely with Danish cancer specialists and in my eyes at least the Australian approach to treating cancer is superiour to the Danish approach, which is more traditional.
This hospital treats 5.000 patients a year and the name was kept a secret until the unveiling.

Article from a Danish medical journal: Kronprinsesse Mary navngiver australsk kræfthospital - Dagens Medicin Emphasizing that Danish doctors can now get their specialist training at Westmead. - The cooperation is especially between Westmead and Skejby Sygehus. Which is rapidly expanding these years, and which has become the state hospital of western Denmark, easily rivalling Rigshospitalet. That means we can expect to see quite a few Australian doctors in Aarhus in the years to come, as well as Australian medical students on exchange to Aarhus University. - They can enjoy the Sculpture by the Sea exhibitions while they are in Aarhus.
And the weather? Well, it remains to be seen how much Aussies will appreciate a foggy, rainy, dark November. When the cold seeps into their bones.....
Those who survive November without going stircrazy :frazzled: will find December cosy.

I was delighted that the Westmeade cancer care centre was named in honour of the Crown Princess. A truly fitting re-naming and one I'm sure means a great deal to Mary.

And I think you're right Muhler, in that Australia is largely recognised as a world leading researcher for cancer. State of the art technologies, equipment and studies are consistently being explored, developed and implemented across the board, and as such, cancer patients from around the world are often sent to Australia due to the reputation of our medical professionals and the research and treatment facilities which are available. And naturally, working with outher nations to build a comprehensive offensive towards this disease goes without saying.

Indeed living in a country where an estimated 1 in every 2 Australian's will be diagnosed with some form of cancer by the age of 85 means that this disease is one that requires the steadfast commitment of both federal and state government bodies, philanthropic funding and charity. And fortunately enough, being the wealthy country that it is, this is therefore made possible.

It's quite shocking to note, but around 114,000 new cases of cancer were diagnosed in Australia last year.
