Prince Antonio, Princess Christine and Family

If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
Any news on a royal future bride for prince Rafael? As that is expected of him to continue the royal lineage (I wonder whether a noble bride would be considered an acceptable alternative if he cannot find a princess).

In this interview 4 years ago he said he intended to keep up that tradition to be able to fulfil his role.

The title is a bit misleading as it was his brother "who was born to be emperor of Brazil" not Rafael as the second son; however, because his older brother's airplane crashed he was put in this position.

On itself there are plenty Habsburgs, Borbóns, Orléanses, Liechtensteins, Hohenzollerns, etc. to find a bride. A noble bride seems perfect too: his own mother Princess Christine de Ligne, might be from a most illustrious aristocratic family, with a royal mother even (Alix de Luxembourg), strictly spoken she is not royal.

A wedding between Brazil and Portugal would be interesting. :flowers:

Who do you think would be a good fit for both prince Rafael and the role prince Rafael wants to play in Brazil?

No idea. But when one looks to Stéphanie de Lannoy, Mathilde d'Udekem d'Acoz, Sophie von Isenburg, that sort of ladies.

Theodora of Greece and Denmark is now engaged, THE dream candidate for Georg von Preussen / Georgy Romanov (fully royal, orthodox). This shows how difficult it is to match from behind a desk.

Look at the "potentials" > 20 years old in the Habsburg family alone:

Nikolaus Maximilian Ludwig Antonius Franz Leo Heinrich Josef Maria Herzog von Hohenberg x Marie Elisabeth Gräfin von Westphalen zu Fürstenberg
= Johanna Marie Henriette Elisabetha Bona Sophie Antonia 1993
= Teresa Maria-Felicitas Margarete Anna Bernadette Polycarpia 1996

Leo Johannes Maximilian Josef Koloman Fürst von Hohenberg x Rosalind Roque Alcoforado
= Geneviève Leontine Johanna Andrea 1998

Karl Thomas Robert Maria Franziskus Georg Bahnam Erzherzog von Österreich x Francesca Freiin von Thyssen-Bornemisza
= Eleonore Jelena Maria del Pilar Iona 1994
= Gloria Maria Bogdana Paloma Regina Fiona Gabriela 1999

Raimund Joseph Carl Ludwig Maria Gabriel Marcus d'Aviano Gaspar Erzherzog von Österreich x Bettine Götz

Some potential brides for Rafael (1986) that seem to meet the criteria

- Princesses Marie-Astrid (1987) or Marie-Anunciata (1985) of Liechtenstein (royal parents)
- Archduchess Eleonore of Habsburg-Lothringen (1994; royal father; noble mother)

These Princesses are already engaged.

Here are my suggestions for Rafael (beware that some may be far-fetched, such as non-Catholics on the list):

• Duchess Olga of Mecklenburg (1988)
• Princess Philippa of Hohenzollern (1988)
• Princess Antonia of Hohenzollern (1995)
• Princess Sirivannavari of Thailand (1987)
• Princess Kako of Akishino (1994)
• Duchess Katharina of Oldenburg (1997)
• Duchess Marie Amelie Herzogin von Württemberg (1996)
• Duchess Sophie-Dorothea Herzogin von Württemberg (1997)
• Duchess Pauline of Württemberg (1997)
• Princess Sikhanyiso Dlamini of Eswatini (1987)
• Princess Marija of Yugoslavia, daughter of Prince Nikola and granddaughter of Prince Tomislav (1993)
• Princess Noor Pahlavi of Iran (1992)
• Princess Iman Pahlavi of Iran (1993)

Anyway, I think the notion of equally dynastic marriages is silly nowadays. If I'm Rafael, I'd tell his uncles Luiz and Bertrand to move on with the times and drop the stupid tradition of members renouncing succession rights for themselves and their descendants if they enter unequal marriages.

Rafael's mother is not royal but noble, which proves that the requirement of strictly equal marriages does not exist.

They wopuld probably force him to renoucne his rights. Their niece Princess Alix of Ligne who married a french Count also had to renonce.

If he really wanted marry non-equla he probably woulöd have to wait until his father is the head of the House. But then i don't know hos he sees this and if he would allow it.

- Princesses Léopoldine (1990) or Marie Immaculata (1991) of Liechtenstein (royal parents)

- Archduchess Eleonore of Habsburg-Lothringen (1994; royal father; noble mother)
- Princess Alexandra of Luxembourg (1991; non-noble/royal mother; but reigning family)
- Infanta Maria Francisca (of Portugal), Duchess of Coimbra (1997; non-noble/royal mother)
- Princesses Mafalda (1994) or Olimpia (1995) of Bulgaria (royal father; noble(?) mother)

Not sure whether these princesses have boyfriends or not... Some are rumored to have

He could also have a look in the mediatzied Families. For example the five daughters of Duchess Mathilde of Württemberg would perfectly fit the bill.

And through ther great-granmdmother the late Comtesse de Paris there would be even connections to the Brazuil imperial Family. And theri maternal gandmother was born in Petropolis.

His mother is the daughter of a princess from Luxembourg, so she is very close to royalty.

As for a possible bride for Prince Rafael, I think he would make a good marriage to Princess Alexandra of Luxembourg, they are still cousins and must have the same values and principles.

I think they are much to close related.

You will understand "very close to royalty" is not the same as royalty. His mother is the proof that Dom Rafael does not need a strictly equal partner. That a daughter of a Belgian nobleman makes a dynastic marriage only broadens the perspective for Dom Rafael. There are thousands more possible partners in the high nobility than when limiting oneself to strictly royal families.

Alexandra de Luxembourg indeed is "distant enough" for a marriage.

Yes, I understand what you mean.
Yes Rafael and Alexandra are distant cousins, but they certainly know each other, but maybe he is not going to marry her.
But there are other princesses (from Germany for example) and from other noble houses in Europe with whom he can marry.
But this rule of the imperial house in Brazil should no longer exist, it is anachronistic for the 21st century.

PRESS RELEASE: PRINCE DOM ANTONIO'S STATE OF HEALTH

São Paulo, March 27, 2020

Prince Dom Antonio de Orleans and Bragança continues to be treated for the new coronavirus (Covid-19), assisted by his wife and son, Princess Dona Christine and Prince Dom Rafael.

His Highness remains hospitalized in the city of Rio de Janeiro, awaiting transfer of the intensive care unit (ICU) to the room.

We thank you in your name for all the prayers made to God Our Lord and to the Blessed Virgin for the full restoration of your health, in which, even, there has been an increasing insistence on the intercession of Princess Dona Isabel.

The other members of the Imperial Family who contracted the disease recover at home, without the need for hospitalization.

Further information will be released in due course.

That sounds as if it was really critical for Prince Antonio; glad to hear that it seems that he may leave the ICU. Wishing him a full recovery.

Good heavens. Public persons have greater chance to become infected, exactly because they are a public person, of course. Courage, Dom Antonio!

A family claiming rights to a throne and imperial status that expired in 1889 is probably not anxious to move on with the times or afraid of seeming anachronistic.

Prince Luiz of Orleans and Bragança, Head of the Imperial House of Brazil, transmits through his dileto nephew and eventual dynastic successor, Prince Rafael of Orleans and Bragança, his traditional Message to Brazilians on Homeland Day this year 2020.

Has prince Rafael found a bride yet that meets the strict requirements of his family?

Prince Luiz of Orleans and Braganza, Head of the Imperial House of Brazil, upgraded the style of his brother, Prince Antônio, and his sister-in-law, Princess Christine, from Royal Highness to Imperial and Royal Highness in a decree signed on 26 September 2020 in São Paolo.

Dom Luiz also granted the Grand Cross of the Imperial Order of the Rose to Princess Christine.

Dom Antônio and Dona Christine celebrated their thirty-ninth wedding anniversary on 26 September.

On December 24 and 25, Prince Dom Antonio and Princess Dona Christine of Orleans and Bragança had the joy of celebrating the Christmas of Our Lord Jesus Christ with their two youngest children, Prince Dom Rafael and Princess Dona Maria Gabriela of Orleans and Bragança, in the Castle of Beloeil, ancestral property of the Princely House of Ligne.

Although I am happy that they have had a nice christmas I am surprised that they were able to travel to Europe.

We were and are only allowed to receive 1 person per household so I am assuming that the prince and the princess de Ligne did not reside at Belouil.

The castle has sadly been closed for visitors since the lockdown started in March last year, even though most museums were able to re-open.

Prince Antonio de Orleans and Bragança, third in line to the Throne and crown of Brazil, in an interview granted to the Bulletin, "Heirs of Porvir".

"We had a first major victory when we rejected, through impeachment in 2016 and the 2018 elections, a socialist power project, whose intention was to transform Brazil into a great Venezuela. Now we have a government that defends Christian values, the family and natural law; it is a government more aligned with the legitimate longings of the Brazilian people, which is naturally orderly and of immense goodness. However, the form of republican government alone does not allow long-term projects to be carried out; therefore it is essential to restore the Monarchy."

Ah, it seems the prince is a fan of Bolsonaro - a president who warned people that taking a COVID vaccination may turn them into an aligator. To add to his argument he is making a grotesque comparison between Lula da Silva & Dilma Roussef and the regime In Venezuela.

It is not surprising that somebody who comes from a conservative background is against social democracy. But the antipathy seems to be blinding the prince for the rather obvious shortcomings of the madman who is now in control of the country.

Especially the 'legitimate' in this portion; are the longings of the other Brazilians not legitimate?

it is a government more aligned with the legitimate longings of the Brazilian people, which is naturally orderly and of immense goodness.

Invited to deliver the opening speech of the work of the XXX National Monarchical Meeting, Princess Dona Maria Gabriela de Orleans and Bragança, fifth in line to the Throne and Crown of Brazil, she recalled the example left by her ancestors – the Empresses Dona Leopoldina and Dona Thereza Christina and Princess Dona Isabel – and extolled the natural virtues of the benefactors of the Brazilian people.

In the XXX National Monarchical Meeting, Prince Rafael of Orleans and Bragança, fourth in line to the Throne and Crown of Brazil, in a message, commented on the present political panorama of Brazil, evidencing the lack that makes the Moderator Power of the Emperor. Recalling the example of his great-grandfather, the "Perfect Prince", His Highness reaffirmed his commitment to always be at the service of the nation.
