I realize that this tiara is part of the parure that is now out of QE2's hands. The necklace is being sold on sj phillips but here, i just had some fun altering the tiara for modern day, if the queen was still to wear it.
Mashed, can you tell me where to get the full picture for this amethyst parure? Thanks!

The original pic of the amethyst parure had to be removed because it had been directly attached to the Forums. All images in the Royal Jewels Forums (and in all non Current Events threads) must be hosted via one of the free image-hosting sites such as Photobucket, Imageshack etc. Hotlinking to images on other websites is a no-no under any circumstances.

thanks,

Wow. I gotta say, some of you guys are totally amazing in Photoshop! I'm in design school and I work in Photoshop and Illustrator all the time, and I know how tricky it can be to get it "right" and looking real. And for you with the swedish tiara, and anyone else reading this thread, just keep playing with Photoshop- you will get better every time. Also, you should check out Adobe's website for more tips. However, your attempt was pretty good. Keep it up! And the rest of you- keep posting more tiaras! I'm going to get off my little behind going and finish the one I've been working on.

You are all very talented! Is interesting to see the adaptations on their heads, although I think the Hope Diamond should stay away from Queen Elizabeth's head since it's associated with bad luck. Wasn't it owned in another incarnation by Marie Antoniette?

Yes, as a matter of fact it was. During the French Revolution the thing was stolen and reappeared years later in a reduced size in order to disguise the fact of what it actually was. It had originally been bought by Louis XIV I believe. Somebody did a wonderful study in which the examined the stone as it is today and demonstrated just how it had been whacked down to size from the origninal. As for bad luck, the BRF has the Koh I Nor (sp???) and we need not go into their bad luck. That would start world war IV around here.

As for the second posting by Wymanda, I was wondering if perhaps you should remove the smaller sapphires. The idea is a wonderful one, but I could not help but wondering if it might not be too much of a good thing. But where on earth did you find that tiara. it is gorgeous. I would like to have one for myself. Then the little men in white coats would show up and carry me off to the home sure enough. Cheers. Thomas

Good thinking TP!
I'm afraid I got a little carried away with the blue idea!!!!

As far as I know, the Koh i Noor is supposed to be unlucky only when worn by men, which is why it's in the Queen Consort's crown rather than in the Imperial State Crown (which was made for George VI).

Elspeth, Most Noble,

Yes, the legend is that if a man wears the thing it will bring death, destruction and damnation. However given the luck or should I say the press of the BRF in recent years I am not so sure that legend applies only to the men. Being the fervent monarchist, and an American one at that, you can imagine my opinion of the British press. However to put that in print here would violate the rules, and God Forbid that I should open my very large logorreahic mouth, stick my size 9 and 1/2 foot in it and violate any of the rules. Warren would have a fit, and I am trying my best to be on my best behaviour. But it is hard. Cheers. Thomas Parkman

Everybody is great at this! Tiara manipulation is fun i think. you can add, remove, change the color of stones etc. here's my version of the above tiara with sapphires instead of emeralds and I also thought the middle portion could make a nice brooch:

Bravo mashed! You've done it again. I love it, I can't wait to see more from you. I have a request....could you possibly do something with the Sophie Wessex wedding tiara, it's horrible IMO. Is there anything you can do to it to make it look more attractive?:)

Not that the talents of our fellow contributors are without merit, but it would take a Photoshop Yoda to do anything with that pitiful excuse for a jewel. I keep thinking it was a cruel practical joke played on Sophie by The Queen, although not as cruel as the one played by Edward with that awful pearl necklace . Maybe I should take this rant over to the "Worst Royal Jewels' thread...

If anyone has a good picture of this tiara, i can sure try. it might be a difficult one though but let's give it a shot.

Wow - thanks so much for all your pics. These are awesome.

I don't suppose anyone would like to take a stab at improving Queen Elizabeth's Brazilian Aquamarine parure?

How about Mary with the Swedish "Edward VII Wedding Gift Tiara"

IMO the Swedish Ruby Tiara looks good on nobody and unfortunately it's destined for Princess Madeleine  . {Deleted response to deleted post - Elspeth} Why doesn't Mathilde have another tiara? The Floral Wreath one is beautiful but she's going to be the next Queen of Belgium! I think that warrants her at least another tiara  .

Yes! Did you just get rid of the top half of the tiara? A vast improvement if I say so myself....:D Thanks, wymanda!

Not being to good at this myself I didn't attempt the other idea I had which was to augment the existing tiara into a kokoshnik shape. Perhaps "Mashed Potatoes" or "Thomas Parkman" would take on that challenge?

Wymanda, doesn't that one belong to Elizabeth Rosemund Taylor Hilton Wilding Todd Fisher Burton Burton Warner Fortensky ;)?

Queen Fabiola is free to do whatever she wants with her jewels, as they do not belong to any foundation and are all her personal property. The Queen is close to various nieces(in-law), like Marie-Astrid of Austria, Marguerite of Liechtenstein, Astrid, Mathilde and her own spanish nieces of course. The most logical thing is that she will leave the most substantial parts, like the floral tiara/coronet, to the main line of the RF (Mathilde/Elisabeth) while she will give other ladies some of the smaller items, but this is pure speculation.

But Fabiola is still going strong (for a long time to come I hope) so I hope to see the floral tiara in coronet version on her head very soon (she doesn't wear tiara's very often anymore these days), maybe during the dutch state-visit.
